Also raising himself higher by climbing the spikes, Venmirl then lands a solid blow on the grappling demon. She recoils in pain but she doesn't seem as badly hurt as she should be.
The quasit yells out in frustration. "ENOUGH! You will payss forrr yourrr arrrrrogance human loverr. I'll killss you firssst then deal with yourrr alliesss." Stopping her attempts to free herself, the demon savagely attacks Darst. The goblin is taken a bit by surprise as the tiny demon's claws rake across his face. He immediately feels his face's muscles stiffening. The foul demon's claws must hold some poisonous toxin! Darst take 4 points of damage in two hits and, on his turn, must make a DC 16 fortitude or lose 1 point of dexterity.

Naomi is frightened for 1 more rounds, hp: 16/16

And we get to add fear to the list of emotions that can run strong through the preistess...
You should know the in-laws you'll get are... dangerous? Not that I'm adverse to the idea of a Mystic Theurge Marriage, I'd just rather make sure you know what you're getting into...

All marriages have a family on one side that is a gang-like Guild? It's impressive the world has lasted so long...

Reptilian GM |

Hmm , maybe Darst can assist me? he he.
Either way, it works this time.
Darst fights the pain and the slowing poison and manages to grab all the demon's limbs. With Izbahn holding her wings to prevent her from flying, the quasit is effectively immobilized and unable to attack for now. She squirms and growls in frustration.
Venmirl is still up.

Reptilian GM |

Hoping that the magic of his totem will help him deal more damage to the small demon, Venmirl enchants his morningstar with a simple spell.
Being held fast, the quasit is unable to attack. She instead twist in the grip of her captors and agilely manages to slip out of their grasp. Wasting no time, the demon unfurls her wings and quickly flies back up to the ceiling (i.e. about 20 ft. up. Venmirl gets an AoO. Since they were grappling, I don't think Izbahn or Darst were armed and thus neither get one). Up there, she mocks her attackers. "Givesss it up now, morrrrtalsss! Yourrr pathetic attemptsss to hurrrt me havesss all failed!"
Your turn
HPs and conditions:
Amrunelara is no longer frightened, hp: 13/19
Darst is still poisoned and must make a DC 16 fort save or lose 1d2 ⇒ 2 dexterity, hp: 11/17
Izbahn has mage armor (1 hour and 49 minutes), hp: 14/14
Naomi is no longer frightened, hp: 16/16
Venmirl's morningstar has magic weapon (20 rounds), hp: 17/21
After some laziness on my part, I'm trying to return some momentum to the game so I'm sorry for not posting earlier. This weekend, I was out of town, camping.

Reptilian GM |

Since she's no longer pinned/grappled, 20 is barely not enough, so no crit.
The quasit tries to dive under Venmirl's morningstar but she only partially succeed. The weapon strikes one of her wing, weirdly causing only a minor wound. It doesn't stop the demon from reaching the ceiling.

Naomi Fairchild |

"9 Hells!" Naomi curses as the fear fades away. She turns around and runs back into the room, barely inside the doors before she yells at the quasit.
"Worshipper of the Mother of Monsters, you are keeping me from my mark! Either be brave enough to fight us now or go back to whatever slime pit spawned you and your filth!"

Reptilian GM |

Actually, Darst was armed. War razors are light weapons.
Yeah but you need both hands free to grapple or you get a penalty (-5, I think).
Just as Naomi moves back into the room, Izbahn releases a spell to cloud the quasit's mind. The little she-demon doesn't seem affected by it however.
Darst, Venmirl and Amrunelara can still act. Ugh, this combat is turning out to be pretty much as I feared.

Darst |

So are we winning yet?
It'd be going better if Darst could use his usual cunning and subtlety. :P
Darst looks around for something to throw (preferably something I can use to skewer the little beast). Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14If he finds one, the goblin weighs it in his hand, considering something.

Reptilian GM |

Venmirl's acid dart catches the small demon right in the chest but the substance doesn't seem to affect her in the slightest. In fact, most attacks aimed at the quasit have proven mostly ineffective. Even the most serious wounds caused by Izbahn's magic seem healed by now.
Darst looks around for a weapon, something he could throw. There is little in the middle of the pool other then the circle of skull-mounted metal pikes. A closer examination reveals that one of them is badly rusted at the water line and could possibly be broken in two. With the skull removed, this could serve as a makeshift javelin.
Just a little note, I still need a fort save vs poison from Darst. Darst can still do a standard/move and Amrunelara is still up (hopefully she/he's still around).

Izbahn Douvurk |

Ouch, well in the infamous words of Cpl. Hicks, 'Game over man, Game Over!'
Izbahn is getting desperate now, as he sees no way to kill the demonic creature. He spies Darst, and with a crazy thought jumping into his mind. He reaches to grab Darst, and without giving either Darst or the quasit a chance to react, he launches the nearly crippled goblin at the creature! STR check 1d20 ⇒ 11
I apologize for this in advance KC.

I forgot to mark my first save, but it was a 3. Here's this round:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22Darst starts fixing up the pike.
Finally, I get to use that trait of mine!

Because Izbahn's trying to make you the first goblin to fly without magic.Naomi Fairchild wrote:What? Why not?Darst wrote:Finally, I get to use that trait of mine!No you don't...

Hmmm, maybe we just try to lock her in this room somehow. Seems like this thing is too high CR for us.

Perhaps you need something to help you kill her.
Amrunelara moves back to the room beside Naomi while Darst breaks up one of the pikes to make a makeshift weapon.
High above the group, the quasit call upon her innate abilities and once again disappear from view. The slight sound of her wings flapping can still be heard above but it's hard to know where it's coming from exactly.
Next turn
HPs and conditions:
Amrunelara, hp: 13/19
Darst is still poisoned and must make a DC 16 fort save or lose 1d2 ⇒ 2 dexterity, hp: 11/17
Izbahn has mage armor (1 hour and 49 minutes), hp: 14/14
Naomi, hp: 16/16
Venmirl's morningstar has magic weapon (19 rounds), hp: 17/21

Izbahn Douvurk |

Izbahn glares up at the spot where he knows the quasit is still hovering. Abandoning his efforts to grab the hapless goblin for now, he approaches the pulpit where the boiling liquid sits, Move to J12 while uncorking the bottle of wine he picked up earlier that morning. Move action to take item out of pack. He gives an evil grin as he pours the contents into the bubbling liquid. Free action.
oh well, that was some good wine too, he he. Maybe damaging this source of those strange creatures will enrage the quasit enough to draw it towards Izbahn, so the rest of you can whack on it.

Reptilian GM |

Darst is down to 19 dex. He needs two successful saves in a row to end the poison prematurely.
To Izbahn's surprise, the wine he drops into the bubbling pool actually freezes to create a red-tinted block of ice floating at the surface of the bubbling 'water'. A shriek can be heard coming from somewhere high in the room. "Yourrr continued defilement of the Mother's SSSanctum iss an affrront, human! You will pay!"
Actions, anyone else?

Darst screams and throws his 'spear' at where he heard the demon.
Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22Damage: Not sure, but 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5 and 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3 the most likely.
Oh, and miss chance 1d100 ⇒ 62.

Yeah, this was one of my early PbP and I am sad to see it die like this. Maybe I will imagine Izbahn, and Naomi happily married, and a bunch of scampering little rugrats scurrying underfoot, he he.

We could always keep the game going. I want to Izbahn's reaction to Naomi's family, and then his reaction if/when he learns what the 'craft' the kids are taught is...
