Begrilda Hammerhild |
Begrilda's jaw falls slack. "You killed Rodrik? You are behind this whole invasion? What was it for, you demon?! To come hide down in some ancient tomb?! You've torn apart marriages, families, young loves, old friendships, all for this? Curse you! You will not leave here alive!"
GM Red |
Seems my wolves were too small. Size corrected now...
Skreed laughs long enough for it to become awkward. "What was it for? My dear, that legendary hammer right there and the map to the tomb of the great Giantslayer, Nargrym Steelhand! And once we're done here, I'll have just what I came for!"
The immense wolves advance on the party, surrounding Begrilda from both sides.
Green wolf vs Begrilda: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 161d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Blue wolf vs Thorur: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 121d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Tinker reaches out a slashes the wolf preemptively before they retaliate. Luck smiles upon the two dwarves, and both wolves jaws' close on the air with a deafening snap.

Thorur slips his waraxe up and under the dire wolf's neck, spilling thick swaths of blood on the ground. Noke looses a bolt into the wound, and Begrilda fumbles, slamming her mace into the mud.
The half-orc draws a fizzling blue vial from his side and approaches. "That's right, my pets. Distract them while I pepper them in explosions!"
He winds up a bomb, targeting Thorur.
Bomb, precise bombs, bomber's eye, range penalty, soft cover: 1d20 + 9 + 1 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 9 + 1 - 2 - 2 = 23

The volatile bomb lands at Thorur's feet and explodes into a mess of fire.
Thorur takes 9, and needs a DC 15 Reflex to not catch on fire. Everyone else takes 5 splash, DC 15 Reflex halves.

Reflex vs bomb: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Begrilda is enveloped in fire as the blast of the bomb at Thorur's feet sweeps around her as well.
Doing her best to get away from the flames, Begrilda hurries around the sleeping wolf, then turns her attention toward the half-orc lobbing explosives at the group. "You might have some trouble with those, dear, if you can't see." She performs a series of gestures, then thrusts her left fist forward. A brilliant orb of light appears directly in front of the half-orc's face as she does so. With a smirk, Begrilda opens her fist in motion like an explosion, and the shimmering orb suddenly bursts, creating a searing sphere of light that washes over the half-orc.

Thorur douses the fire. Begrilda gets mauled by the wolf as she steps away. Even covered in wounds, the dwarf focuses on Skreed, conjuring a shimmering orb that bursts into a holy light. When the light vanishes, Skreed is visibly disoriented.
"Unluckily for you, I can see just fine!" He taunts back.

The skeleton statue wears a suit of armor that appears magical, and holds a large hammer.
The chests, vases, and other containers piled around the funerary spire are overflowing with coins, gemstones, jewelry, and other fineries that are definitely very valuable.
Normally, I'd have you ID these, but we're just wrapping up here...
In addition, scattered among the treasure are several items valuable in their own right, including a masterwork breastplate, a suit of masterwork splint mail, four +1 human-bane arrows, 13 adamantine crossbow bolts, a masterwork orc double axe, a heavyload belt, a scroll of phantasmal killer, a scroll of tongues, and a wand of inflict moderate wounds with 7 charges remaining.
The geode ledged in the skeleton's eye socket looks as if it can be removed...
The geode looks to be a spectacular pleochroic variety of tourmaline, the nearest known deposits of which lie in the Mindspin Mountains to the south and west. The geode’s structure is no fluke of nature; the geode’s crystalline valleys and mounds reflect the exact topography of the Mindspin Mountains, and a carved groove along the mountains seems to indicate a trail through the mountain range.
Searching Skreed's body, you find a letter, but it's written in Giant! Unsure if anyone can read it

Get me Uskroth's hammer and rock. I want everything else in the barrow too. But I have to have the hammer and the rock. I think it looks like the rock I already have and showed you. I Have to have both rocks to know the way to the Giantkiller's Tomb, so make sure you get the right one. Then bring the hammer and rock back to the fort.

With the threat eliminated for now, you head back out of the cave and back to Hopespring Beacon. The answers seem clear to you now, and Trunau's leaders piece together any remaining important details: the banners carried by the invading orcs bore the emblem of a misshapen iron spike. The orcs are members of the Twisted Nail tribe, an orc tribe dwelling in the northern Mindspin Mountains that is ruled by a hill giant chieftain by the name of Grenseldek.
Upon your return, the town hails you as heroes for your brave deeds during the orc raid, but also for your diligence in solving the murder of Rodrik Grath. A feast is held as the citizens work tirelessly to repair the broken down buildings.
"Soldiers, we finally have closure on Rodrik's death," Kurst Grath announces at dinner. "May he rest forever in peace. The invasion has dealt a terrible blow to our town, and I can only hope that half-orc and human citizens will continue to work together despite what has transpired. We will re-seal the tomb immediately, and begin to rebuild our town. But for now, join me in celebrating these brave Pathfinders!"
___
The following day, the sobering news that the orc raid was actually instigated by a giant searching for the treasures in Uskroth’s tomb spreads, and Trunau's Chief Defender Halgra of the Blackened Blades approaches you. "We thank you for your assistance, but we are concerned the giant may attack the town again in a second attempt to get a hold of the items she was seeking. While I understand you must return to Absalom to report your success, we hope that you will return soon to aid us..."
End of Giantslayer: Battle of Bloodmarch Hill
