Baldwin the Merciful's: Razor Coast (Inactive)

Game Master baldwin the merciful

The Razor Coast has drawn men to madness and slaughter since the world was young. Tulita natives, born from the same fire as this jagged coast, claim the Razor existed long before the world’s other lands. It is a crucible of flame cooled by the ocean’s caress and its mountains, reefs, and lightless depths teem with as many terrors as lustrous spoils. The Razor bucks the trappings of civilization in much the same manner the storm-tossed sea spurns the men who dare mount her. This is no place for the weak-willed. Untested souls are food for its storms, its fickle gods, its ancient spirits, and the evil predations of unfathomable creatures. No less dangerous are the men who make the coast their home and whose dark desires put most horrors to shame.

So they were beating a guy up; there's a bloody guy on the map, and when David rolled his Natural 20 on Perception to see them "Beating the guy up" he didn't even get a Sense Motive Check vs. a Bluff Check?

Also, why is this guy bleeding on the map if he's the leader? That doesn't make any sense...

I described what you saw, there's blood in the area there is blood on leader (whose blood you don't know from 30 feet away in dim alley), it looked like they were beating up someone. You didn't pause to study the scene you choose to act. You walked into a trap to lure someone into robbery.

In the morning, after their "eventful" night.

Darius traced a finger up and down the soft, smooth skin of Embrianna's arm. Despite the worry of having a bounty on his head, it was one of the best nights he had had in a long time. Perhaps it was because he had grown accustomed to being hunted, though not to be killed, but maybe, just maybe, it had dulled the thought of it some.

Regardless, his night with the beautiful woman had not been dampened by the notion. As she stirred beside him, he said softly to her, "So, how was your night?" a smirk on his face as he asked the question.

Trying to pass the time as the solo combat continues.

Adriel awoke early in the morning to find the beautiful Astrianna still in her bed. He smiled. Despite her thinking he was an ass when they first met, their chemistry and him managing to drop the facade occasionally had allowed him to consider this woman an actual friend.

He considered waking her, but decided against it for she had made it clear all she wanted was a friend to have fun with. Simple. Just the way he liked it.
He made Em's bed out of courtesy, for he was unsure what time she would waken. In the meantime, he quietly dressed and found his gear, for he saw slivers of light coming in and that meant he could greet the sun as he danced and prepared his spells.....

While Darius has nothing against developing a relationship, he enjoys a good night of frivolous fun, but makes sure to please his partner when he does so. If Embrianna made it a point to Darius that she would be looking for something more, he would not be against the idea, but until she does, he assumes this was just a night of fun.

"Well, I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. I'm going to go through some drills. Take your time getting ready if you'd like, I'm going to reserve this suite for another night at least."

He then stands and dons his armor and clothing before taking his glaive in hand and heading out of the room. He lets the innkeeper know his plans and reserves the room for another night, before catching sight of Adriel coming out of the back hall.

"Sir, could you happen to tell me if there would be an open area somewhere that could be used for training exercises?" he asks the man before turning to Adriel with a grin.

Via Poison: When you are initially exposed to a poison (whether during your action or someone else's), you must make a save to avoid being poisoned.

Success You resist being poisoned. You do not suffer any ill effects and you need not make any further saves. - Is there something going on with this poison that means I need to make it multiple times?

Also, you've said that he's used a bolas - those do Non-Lethal Damage; should I be marking that differently?

Finally - a bolas is a Ranged Weapon; it is not a Melee weapon - so if he is using it against me he has to through "through" his own allies; he can't use that as a Melee weapon without a penalty - your post suggested it was melee, so I'm kind of confused.

Okay, at this point I'm assuming the guy has Precise Shot to hit me through his ally with a ranged weapon - since Bolas are specifically a ranged weapon; so I don't think he could have hit me with a ranged weapon like a bolas because he'd be at an additional -4 penalty without Precise Shot because the dog is an ally that is in melee distance with me and in his way. That means with an extra -4 he would have rolled a 19 to hit, and he would have missed me with his bolas, and I'd be on my feet at this point and the Thug would have missed, too.

For now I'm just going to make 1 attack on the thug with a Prone Position because I don't know what else to do.

David attacks the man next to him with his magical rapier from a Prone Position.

Attack with Magical Rapier and Arch Luck -
1d20 + 10 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 10 + 1 - 4 = 26

If it hits -
1d6 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 + 1 = 6

EDIT: Roll to confirm -

Attack with Magical Rapier and Arch Luck -
1d20 + 10 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 1 - 4 = 10

If it hits -
1d6 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 + 1 = 5

I'll have my character's HP up when I know more about what's going on.

Evil GM

The bola does nonlethal damage, I should have mentioned that in the damage line.

The melee referred to in the attack roll description is so I know he was firing into melee, it also has a -4 penalty associated in the dice stat line. Look at the numbers and you will see the -4. I didn't spell each word out or else the attack line will be a long line. I already subtracted and accounted for the -4.

As far as poison this is an immediate onset damage 1 con if the save fails, the next round a second save is required (if the initial save failed) for the secondary effect which was unconscious. I rolled the the unconscious effect to keep actions together to make it less confusing.

Your earlier save against poison doesn't make you immune to future poison attempts with the same type of poison. Although you did not need to make any future saves from your 1st (or initial) poisoning. Since you were not successfully poisoned the first time the save DC did not increase by +2. Any later doses are treated independently.

Evil GM

David's attack from the prone position strikes the thug, who drops to the ground.

Questions about this combat:

Sorry about all these questions, but I'm pretty confused at them is all. I hope you don't mind me asking, I'm just trying to understand things before I act.

So, regarding the bolas - I caught the -4 penalty before, but I assumed it was a -4 for Deadly Aim, as he has already a +4 to damage twice. I'm guessing (as he has a favored enemy) that he is probably at least a 6th level Ranger; picked "Human" as his favored enemy twice; and is using Deadly Aim. If he's using Deadly Aim then he has an additional -4; that's why I thought he had that penalty.

In addition, I'm pretty sure a weapon can either do a Combat Maneuver or Damage. In other words; he can trip me with his Bolas, or attack me with his Bolas, but I don't think he can do both, any more than if I attempted to Disarm someone with my Rapier AND stab them; or Bull Rush someone and Punch them. I think that this would make his CMB against my CMD. I don't think it is his Attack Roll and THEN his CMBwith the same weapon; if he used two weapons I think that's different; especially since CMB and Attack Rolls tend to be different modifiers. It would be like lashing someone with a Cat o' nine tails and then tripping them after the lash does damage. Is that incorrect; it will effect what I chose to do with combat in the future.

Questions on Poison

So I'm really confused here, so I wanted to put questions altogether, since I don't understand them.

Regarding later doses of Poison: I'm pretty sure in Paizo if you make the save vs. Poison that's pretty much it, at least for the combat (I'm not talking about the Second Save, though; that normally comes a minute later, or ten minutes, or whatever - depending on the poison).

I included the information directly from the rules on Poison for the combat above, though. I'm not sure if I'm missing something, though. However, that was from errata.

From what I know, Paizo changed how poison works regarding poison in general so that in a combat - once you save vs. the poison the first time you don't have to save each additional time they strike you with the same type of poison, unless it happens all at once. If I'm incorrect with that - please let me know, because that's kind of important for the future regarding poisons and my build.

Also, I thought weapons could only have 1 dose of poison on them. Once I save vs. that Knife or Short Sword, if he hit me, the poison is gone. I don't have to make a second Fortitude Save until either one minute, or five minutes, or whenever the second onset is, I think: One dose of poison smeared on a weapon or some other object affects just a single target. A poisoned weapon or object retains its poison until the weapon scores a hit or the object is touched (unless the poison is wiped off before a target comes in contact with it).

Finally; the enemies are occupying the space of dead bodies. I know they can move through the space their allies were in during combat, but wouldn't standing on the corpse of their dead friends effect them in any way at all? Sorry, I'm just confused at that.

Sorry for all the questions; I have to go to work - I'll have something up when I get home; again - sorry for the questions, just confused is all.

He is a ranger and his favorite enemy is human +4. His damage roll has +4 str, +4 human

What you mentioned about CMB vs attack actually makes sense. I thought it was a bit difficult to actually have to hit, then make CMB check. I've never used a bola before but that is how the book has him written for the encounter. His intent has always been to trip, not kill/injure.

As far as the poison:
Poison comes off once it hits the target. The thugs have had two short swords each poisoned but they have only been using one at time since they can't hit you using TWF. This particular thug moved into position in RD 5 but he didn't hit you until RD 6. Now that he has hit you the poison comes off the weapon.

I don't you're correct on how poisons work. Since poisons stack:

Multiple Doses of Poison

Unlike other afflictions, multiple doses of the same poison “stack,” meaning that successive doses combine to increase the poison's DC and duration.

Making your initial saving throw against a poison means stacking does not occur—the poison did not affect you and any later doses are treated independently.

Your previous save does not make you immune to future poison attempts but what it does do is save against that specific poison attempt and the SAVE DC does not increase.

I will spend some time today reviewing FAQs.

Upon awakening in the morning, Sath washes herself and then dresses before going through her meditative prayers to request the aid of the spirits around her for the upcoming day.

Day's Spells:
0- Detect Magic / Detect Poison / Guidance / Read Magic
1- Obscuring Mist (Domain) / CLW / Entangle / Speak with Animals / Stone Fist
2- Fog Cloud (Domain) / Bull's Strength / Heat Metal / Restoration, Lesser
3- Call Lightning (Domain) / CMW / Negate Poison

Reflecting on their first day in the port city, Sath found herself choosing prayers that were both more offensive and restorative in nature that what she might normally select.

David:

Looking a the poisoning from a different POV.

What if you were facing 3 venomous spiders: if you are bit by one, and make the initial save, is it your position that if you are bit by a second spider you don't need to make a poison save because it is the same type of poison?

Alternatively, if you are bit by one spider in RD 1 and make the save, and subsequently, bit by the same spider in RD 2 do you believe that you don't need to make save against that spider again because of your earlier successful save?

Another way to look at it, if you set off a trap that contains poison and make the save, but a little while later you set off another trap with the same type of poison do you think you need to make a save?
