Baldwin the Merciful's - CoT Campaign (Inactive)

Game Master baldwin the merciful

This is Council of Thieves AP. Westcrown, City of Twilight, once was the center of Aroden's faith, but now it symbolizes despair. By day, the city remains a vibrant center of trade; but, by night only those with a death wish venture out.

Evil GM

Grimm - There are only 4 bones right now.

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

I assume that anyone can have any number of bones on them.

Evil GM

It is safe to say, a visit to a library is in order to learn about the bones.

Evil GM

I know Lucrezia and Orsin are going to be spotty today. I should be on most the day to push forward.

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

People ok with the Truk/Orsin/Andrea set-up with Deathward? Truk/Orsin/Grimm is also viable since they are the meleers (John is better protected wiht his AC)

Evil GM

How many deathward spells do you have and when are you casting? Its only a 1 minute per level spell.

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

I have 3. Two memorized and one on a scroll. I have not yet started casting.

Evil GM

Another option is Andrea, Faelyn and whoever...protect your spellcasters.

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

John could always toss one of those Javelins of Lightning. 5d6 should smoke the swarm.

Andrea1 wrote:

I don't think that would do anything to the swarm.

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

(From the SRD)

This javelin becomes a 5d6 lightning bolt when thrown (Reflex DC 14 half). It is consumed in the attack.

(Lightning Bolt)
You release a powerful stroke of electrical energy that deals 1d6 points of electricity damage per caster level (maximum 10d6) to each creature within its area. The bolt begins at your fingertips.

The lightning bolt sets fire to combustibles and damages objects in its path. It can melt metals with a low melting point, such as lead, gold, copper, silver, or bronze. If the damage caused to an interposing barrier shatters or breaks through it, the bolt may continue beyond the barrier if the spell's range permits; otherwise, it stops at the barrier just as any other spell effect does.

IMO, a bolt of lightning should be something that hurts the swarm since it goes from weapon to magic spell.

Evil GM

I stand corrected, I did not originally read it as effecting an area but rather an individual creature.

Edit:

A swarm takes half again as much damage (+50%) from spells or effects that affect an area, such as splash weapons and many evocation spells.

Right now that seems a waste of a javelin.

How many fireball beads does Lucrezia have left? Acid and alchemist's fire are also good choices

Well, this should be interesting....

Some misunderstandings and a poor attempt at a joke from me.

I belive Baldwin retatracted 'Start sufficating' statement. I did some lame joke about bats still flying while they are stunned and getting buried by bats due to arguing rules. So I really didn't make myself clear.

This whole thing is silly.

We're wasting a lot of time on what's a very simple encounter.

Heading to the gym. My second round actions are posted. If I'm not able to post and we get to round three, Truk will dig Lucrezia out.

Well, it was mostly just character creation so we didn't get to the extra fluff like the lusty busty wenches just yet. But we will get there soon. Probably next session.

Evil GM

I'm signing off for the night.

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

Okay, for next time..

Our specialists Faelyn and Orsin are probably the best for examining the door and figuring out how to do what Bisby said.

Once they figure it out, Andrea will start her other 10 minute buffs like Remove Fear and then when they are about to trigger the door, she will dot he 7 minute ones such as Bless,Deathward and Magic Weapon.

Fire Resist 10 Human Cleric 6,HP 40/40,Init+5F6R4W9,Per10AC18/11/17

Keep an eye on our backs. Get your favorite arrows ready. Once we see the enemy, we can try to identify and then you can use Versitile Weapon as needed to give yourself an extra punch.

Whoa, time to buy more arrows. You might need to pull out the heavy X-Bow and mithril bolts.

Yep. I also still have my melee weapons if needed.

Evil GM

I don't have much time to post until later in the afternoon and evening.

I'm here. Will be at work in a couple of hours.

Truk you can always go prone to see if the rats can bury you.

Male Half-Orc Druid 8/Cleric 1 | HP: 116/116 l AC: 26 (30 with buffs, 32 vs the first 3 attacks per round) /T: 12/FF: 24 l Fort: +15*, Ref: +5*, W: +14* l Init: +0 l Per: +15; Low-light vision l Movement: 30 *Hardy: Gain +2 racial bonus on saving throws against poison, spells, and spell-like abilities *Familiar:51/51

Heh, it was an honest question.

Truk's not going to take the AoO if there's a danger of them burying us when they die.

Male Half-Orc Druid 8/Cleric 1 | HP: 116/116 l AC: 26 (30 with buffs, 32 vs the first 3 attacks per round) /T: 12/FF: 24 l Fort: +15*, Ref: +5*, W: +14* l Init: +0 l Per: +15; Low-light vision l Movement: 30 *Hardy: Gain +2 racial bonus on saving throws against poison, spells, and spell-like abilities *Familiar:51/51

There seems to be some fear that I've being a smart ass or something. I apologize if I've come off that way. I repeat, this is an honest question.

Baldwin's running swarms as if they have the ability to bury characters when the creature's composing the swarm are incapacitated. As such, I'm treating swarms the same way you'd treat any creature with a dangerous Death Throes ability (ala Balors). If I'm mistaken about any of this, let me know and I'll forget about it.

Female Half Elf Urban Ranger / 7 and Wizard / 1 and Arcane Archer / 1 -- Perception: +18 in urban, +21 traps (otherwise +16) -- Init: +4 -- HP:49/59 -- AC: 23(Touch:15 / FF:19) -- F:7, R:11, W:5 +2vs enchants

I have no idea what a Death Throes ability is, but I was wondering if there is a danger of them swarming all over us while they are still living and suffocating us that way. Though my question could be explained by me having watched too many creature features where such a thing actually happens. Luckily, I am not scared of rats, just spiders. And sharks.

Male Half-Orc Druid 8/Cleric 1 | HP: 116/116 l AC: 26 (30 with buffs, 32 vs the first 3 attacks per round) /T: 12/FF: 24 l Fort: +15*, Ref: +5*, W: +14* l Init: +0 l Per: +15; Low-light vision l Movement: 30 *Hardy: Gain +2 racial bonus on saving throws against poison, spells, and spell-like abilities *Familiar:51/51

Death Throes is the ability some monsters have that cause them to do something dangerous when they die like explode or turn into poison mist.

What about the dreaded spider-shark?

No, it's SHARKTOPUS!

Oh what would we do without those wonderful, made-for-tv, sci-fi channel movies? :)

Evil GM

The bats were flying, thousands of them, then all of sudden they drop creating a large pile of bats that can't move. In my creative and delightfully evil DM'ing mind, I envision that as way to create an unexpected out of the ordinary challenge for the players. I hope neither Lucrezia, or you, as players, have faced that type of situation before. If I've done that...then I'm doing my job.

The rats are larger sized but not as many in number, although its a massive rolling mound (you can read this as a lot of HDs) of scurrying gnawing teeth, who like to climb and cover their targets. Could they bury you...yes, if you were prone and they are incapacitated. If you are not prone, you should not have an issue with this.

Evil GM

My maptools is displaying an error message after my java updated. I have no access to any of my maps now. They won't open. I have no idea how to fix it either. I emailed one of the designers for help, I took a snip it image and sent it, I don't know if they will respond or not.

This stinks.

Male Half-Orc Druid 8/Cleric 1 | HP: 116/116 l AC: 26 (30 with buffs, 32 vs the first 3 attacks per round) /T: 12/FF: 24 l Fort: +15*, Ref: +5*, W: +14* l Init: +0 l Per: +15; Low-light vision l Movement: 30 *Hardy: Gain +2 racial bonus on saving throws against poison, spells, and spell-like abilities *Familiar:51/51

Major bummer. I had a really hard time getting Maptools to work on my machine when I upgraded to windows 7. I ended up having to track down a old version of Java to get it to work.

If you don't mind, send me your campaign file. I'll see if I can get it to run on mine when I get off work.

Evil GM

How do I send it to you?

Evil GM

Here is the error message

MAPTOOLS ERROR

Male Half-Orc Druid 8/Cleric 1 | HP: 116/116 l AC: 26 (30 with buffs, 32 vs the first 3 attacks per round) /T: 12/FF: 24 l Fort: +15*, Ref: +5*, W: +14* l Init: +0 l Per: +15; Low-light vision l Movement: 30 *Hardy: Gain +2 racial bonus on saving throws against poison, spells, and spell-like abilities *Familiar:51/51

Do you know where the file is on your computer? I believe maptools saves them as .cmpn files.

Send it to FeralAscendant at Gmail dot com.

Male Half-Orc Druid 8/Cleric 1 | HP: 116/116 l AC: 26 (30 with buffs, 32 vs the first 3 attacks per round) /T: 12/FF: 24 l Fort: +15*, Ref: +5*, W: +14* l Init: +0 l Per: +15; Low-light vision l Movement: 30 *Hardy: Gain +2 racial bonus on saving throws against poison, spells, and spell-like abilities *Familiar:51/51

In all likelihood your maptool is borked but your campaign file is fine.

Your work should be intact. The hard part is going to be getting your maptools working again.

Evil GM

Its interesting because maptools open up to the new map screen and all my accessories are there. I can create a map and save it, it won't reopen. That message occurs.

When I move my mouse over the recent map setting I can see my map in a thumbnail setting but it won't open up.

Evil GM

I just received a response from maptools directing me to rptools.net

Evil GM

Grrrrr...it looks like its a Java 7 issue but I'm having trouble locating and following the technical gobblygook.

Evil GM

my tinkering with maptools has made it a mess, it won't even open up now.

I have seen some people make ASCII maps here on the board. Crude, but it could work unti something gets worked out.

I'm not going to be gaming tonight. I want to see if I can correct my maptools issue.
