Hi Hobgoblin... Welcome to the boards. Basically, just keep your eye on the Recruitment Message Board. When you see someone announce they are Recruiting for a PBP game, you can submit a character there and then wait to see if you are accepted. It may take a while, but its a fun past time.

Talking OOC - Grandmother Pei is not nice, so it is not an unreasonable choice to defect across the border.
That being said, Kenta is honor bound to stay - and I'm reasonably sure that Tan has a vested interest in remaining in Bachuan.

Ah crap! It is never a good thing to split the party. However Kenji has said that he wants to finish his first job.
Very OOC you can go either side, but you do have to stick together.
It is a conundrum - but both Kenta and Tan have no real reason to go back to the Kingdom of Flowers. Both of us have just come from there into Bachuan and have a hankering to stay North of the border.
From my part, if the rest of the party really really want to defect with the Hwan soldiers then I'd need to roll up a fresh character with different goals in mind...

Well crap, I probably should have read this before I posted. I'm all for whatever works. Personally, as Bai-Yin has already expressed, working for the Tiger Guard seems like the kind of job I'd equate to goblin piss. If we go over to the Hwan side, their's no reason why we can't work as border scouts or deep cover operatives. We just don't get involved with the Tiger Guards and try to look like just another band of adventurers.
If we're going to stay in Bachuan working for Grandmother, I really don't know how we're going to do it. That sounds more like a spy, intrigue type of game and I, at least, made Bai-Yin for pretty standard DnD adventuring.
But hey, whatever works. I can always evolve him into something a little darker. Could be fun!
Edit: I should mention that what I meant by deep cover operatives was that we go into Bachuan looking like just another member of the populace or like an adventuring party and then do things to screw around with Grandmother and her regime. All while trying to maintain our cover as nobodies.
I think I can handle however you all want to do it, embrace the evil, turn good, play a spy, work for yourselves, whatever. I'm sure how I would handle a split though, so you might have to talk out a compromise that everyone can live with.
I'm not trying to engage in brinkmanship, but Kenta basically must go back to Guava and complete the job that he has agreed to do. There is not any other option that fits in with his character and honor system.
So if the group wants to go South, there are two options:
1) I roll a new character that is one of the defectors.
2) We have a short time break in game that allows for Kenta to return to Guava, then have an IC reason to return below the border (such as his deception being found out, etc).
3) We agree to carry out the job first - perhaps challenging Guava with evidence that the mission was not what he stated, then playing out IC the fallout from that confrontation. Perhaps even attempting to discern the other two targets of the poisoning?
I don't like you making a new character, but I can deal with the other 2, but thats up to you all to figure out.
Well Kenji is going to finish the job first. I am going to continue playing Kenji as he is. No compramising the person he was suppose to be.
He initially was going to join the rumored rebellion. Grandmother never sounded good to him but on his honor, he will finish his current job and leave the Grandmother's service, even if he has to fight to her army, he'll do it.
He will from that point either head to the Hwan or the rebels.
Is there some kind of clue we are missing? What's the quest? Or is this just a sandbox? There is nothing tying the party together so I guess it is simply a sandbox.

Kenta, would your character be willing to finish the task and then return? Or do you have some other reason to stay in Buachan?
I want to make sure everyone makes a decision their character is comfortable with before moving on, so let me know when THE decision is made. There isn't really a wrong thing you can do here.
Chkaia - yep, returning to complete the task -> then potentially defecting is ok with Kenta.
As I'd suggested above, we could expose the real mission to Guava to see how he reacts -> which could serve as the catalyst to either flee or re-enter Hwanggot to track down the other two groups that infiltrated.

Pity none of us have Sleight of Hand - would be a nice scene. Kenta sitting down with Guava, having someone pour two drinks from the glass jar and him toasting to Guava's health to see if he quaffs it...

I am a firm proponent that Good is not necessarily Nice, and Paladins don't need to be shining bastions of polished chrome. Kenta has an honor code and will act for the greater good; but isn't above getting nasty if he needs to.

It would certainly be cathartic to fight what, I hope, are crap ton of mooks and one or two boss guys. Especially after that travesty with the ants.
Even mooks are pretty dangerous to us 1st levelers....

I'm not certain that they will let us leave if we were to do so openly.
Drinking the "poison", pretending to be ill, (and dying) might give the merciless soldiers a reason to ignore us completely. Its a gamble, but I'm open to other ideas. I am just using the tools at hand.
