Rock'n'roll, dude!
It's 6:30 a.m. in Syndey, Australia; Mothman any minute now!!! ;)
Yes, but what time is it in the U.K. right now? Aubrey is either burning the midnight oil or about to head into work... or both. Unless he works a late shift (which I doubt because I think he said he's an accountant or something...).

A small request from our wonderful DM: In the case of checks with static DCs (such as Climb, Jump, etc.), could you please let us know the DC beforehand if it is readily apparent? I used an Action Point on a DC 10 Climb check and, had I known it was that simple, I would have just taken 10 on it. I'm not asking for a refund on the point, but avoiding such waste in the future would be nice. Thanks!

My apologies, Aubrey, you did tell me the DC. I was just an idiot and wasn't paying enough attention (it was several posts back and behind a spoiler). I will eat the Action Point like a good player. :D

Not to be all rules-lawyery, but once you know the DC you technically can't spend an action point...
Why not? If you tell me 'this is going to be DC 25' then I should be able to say 'Yeeowch... I'll spend an action point and pray, then!' I'm aware that APs can't be spent after you know the result of your roll, but that's not the issue here.

Yeah, you can use an action point in an attack roll, and usually by a few rounds in you have a good idea of what AC you're aiming for.

I was specifically referring to static DCs (like Climb and Jump). "In order to climb X you must roll Y or, in order to jump N distance you must roll at least Z." Things like that should be fairly obvious to the character. If I see something that I should be able to do easily (by taking 10), then I would do that instead of chancing failure.
Again, though, Aubrey did tell me the wall was only DC 10 to Climb, I just missed it. Ergo, I'm a moron and I will eat my Action Point happily with no further arguement. Aubrey is not at fault here (not that he would be anyway). I rescind my earlier statement.

Purely a quote the rules thing, not a how anybody plays thing, hence the rules-lawyery and the technically
eh, fair enough. Interesting point though with skills like climb, where normally the standard DCs are in the PHB anyway.
Aubrey, is it ok for us to use an action point in climbing over the wall (even though we have a good idea of what the DC is)? I really want to get over that wall!

You couldn't really take 10 - it was a make or break situation. And you would have failed if you hadn't used the point. I deliberately don't say "The DC is X" if I can avoid it - I want the players to work it out themselves, and . I said the climb DC of the fence was 10 to Heathy to kind of emphasise the point that it was much easier to climb the gate than break it, so they didn't spend ages trying to break a DC 25 gate. And earlier, I did say it looked an fairly easy climb.
By the end of this section, you should be well into lvl 3 and looking at getting those points back.

They are your action points - use them as you see fit.

Must be nice to have the right weapons available...
I take it things in the pipes aren't going so well? I'll admit, there's a fair deal of suspense in not knowing what is going on with my allies. While I won't ruin the double-blind thing we've got going on here, I will suffice to say that I'm doing okay. :)

Excellent! Doing ok then? Can we see any of your handiwork yet? Probably not through the mist...

You're the man on the silver mountain. (or elf).

Well, now that it is dead, I think I can share fairly,
There was a skeleton in the sewer pipe. I don't think I played above my intelligence to not shoot it with my crossbow, or stab it with my dagger... so i looked at my list of gear, and the only blunt instrument i had was the crowbar...
on top of the penalty we had for fighting in an enclosed space, it was unpleasant.

I'd prefer you not to share stuff like that if possible - maybe when the PCs get together. Ignorance isn't bliss - quite the opposite - so I'd like to keep everyone guessing.
Fair enough, and my apologies...
I din't think through how relavent it may be now that it was over...
