"Almost 200 years ago, the great dragon Huyanwo came to this island. He wished to rule the village here. They refused and he laid waste to it. He has been a menace ever since."

"Well, Huyanwo is a water type dragon, breaths acid, is old enough to be scary, lives somewhere along the coast, and needs his/her lifespan shortened significantly because he/she is an evil dragon that has been around the area since before I was born?"

With Marisa's knowledge, you easily find Huyanwo resting at the top of a ridge. He stares at you with a look of amusement. "I was wondering when my next meal would arrive. The last one had too many scales to pick out. You look easier to feast on." With that he takes off into the sky.

Party is up. Everyone give me a will save DC20 vs frightful presence or be shaken for 5d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 6, 2, 3) = 15 rounds. The dragon is 50 feet in the air currently.

"Great...another flyer. I only have 1 fly spell. Marisa..are you able to get anyone airborn?..or maybe just blast the dragon from the skies?"

Brachus pauzes to think

" ..speaking of the dragon...can anyone tell me anything about this type of Dragon?"

Looking at his companions and seeing most of them carry bows Brachus asks;

"Does one of you want the fly spell..or do we just shoot it from here?"

Depending on answer(s) I'm getting...either cast fly or possibly a communal resist energy spell

Also..I still have the lesser restoration, which I'd cast on someone before we got here. Still unsure who'd get the most use out of that one

Marisa protects the group from the dragon's vicious breath while Brachus enables Vahanian to fly up and score a telling blow. Pallas and Chugan!

I'll assume we were all healed of all ability damage, then, since we could pay someone to do that before we left town. GM, please let us know how much that will cost.

Pallas is pretty sure he does not remember anything about these kinds of dragons. "I'm sorry, Brachus," he calls out, "my mentors did not teach me much about dragons."

"Take hope, all!" he shouts, casting a spell on the party. Pallas then begins his battle dance and prepares to see what else he can do.

Chugan takes out his bow and sighs, not being able to do much.

Huyanwo unleashes his fury upon the barbarian.

The dragon lives up to his reputation as he tears Vahanian apart. The barbarian is knocked unconscious and floats down to the ground safely. Looks like Vahanian took 132 after DR so he is at -8. Party is up.

Pallas cries out in shock as Vahanian is reduced to shreds by the dragon's attacks. Delay until the others act. Brachus can cast healing from a distance with his reach rod, right?

Yes, 3 times a day. but only spells up to lvl 3 since it's a lesser rod

I'll help out Vahanian. You guys try to take care of the dragon"

Brachus takes a few quick steps forward and pulls out his rod, greatly increasing the range at which he can use his healing spells

Mentally exchanging a communal delay poison spell for one of healing Brachus concentrates on Vahanian sending a line of positive energy his way

Pallas twirls his scimitar and hands in a counterclockwise fashion, intoning notes in Kelish. He finishes and points to Marisa.

Pallas casts Heroic Finale, allowing Marisa to make another standard action of her choice. Casting the spell ends his battle dance, but he begins it again using a swift action.

Marisa's ball of flame engulf the dragon and he falls to the ground dead. Combat over.

"Well that wasn't as bad as I feared when I saw the dragon tear into Vahanian"

Brachus says as he motions for the flying man to come closer so he can touch him with more healing spells

"Shall we head back or look around for the dragons lair? If I remember correctly..there isn't any known dragon that doesn't like to collect a hoard and sleep on top if it"

Brachus casts detect magic and takes a careful look around his surroundings

(take 20 on perception for 20+18=38 to see if there's a clue on where the dragons lair might be)

Upon defeating the dragon, you are able to locate his lair in a small grotto under the cliff on the south side of the Ridge of Graves. The entrance rests 20 feet below the waterline even at low tide, and cannot be seen from the surface. Within lies Huyanwo’s hoard, amassed over the last 2 centuries: a +1 blinding heavy steel shield, 2 vials of elixir of vision, a gray bag of tricks, an incandescent blue sphere ioun stone, a lesser silent metamagic rod, 200 pp, 800 gp, 3,000 sp, and 50,000 cp.

With a big smile on his face Brachus says

"Seems I was right about the sleeping on top of a pile of treasure part"

"That stone is nice, but my headband is better..and I fear the two of them don't play very nicely together. If nobody else wants it..I could use a better shield though..and one of the vials"

as he picks up the shiny heavy shield

Chugan, relieved that the dragon is dead, simply shakes his head and sighs.

"I suppose I could make use of the stone, though you can't seem to make use of me."

After sundown, the Emissary offers another night of festivities at the Grand Pavilion, featuring highwire acrobatics performances, fieworks, a tengu swordsmanship show, comedy skits, and elaborate puppet shows. Commoners and eliminated contestants join the festivities, but Marthysan is noticeably absent. When the paladin is called forth by the Emissary to participate in a stunt, even the wise Emissary seems surprised at his absence.

Pallas asks around to see if anyone knows why Marthysan is missing, quite visibly worried about the paladin.

"...I realy hope that dragon didn't have a polymorph spell and a secret identity posing as a paladin....."

Brachus thinks as he hear the news about the missing Marthysan

No one seems know why the paladin is missing. However an investigation of the paladin's quarters find that it has been ransacked and you see
evidence of a struggle, including the dead body of a Tian woman covered in distinctive Xun tattoos. A search of her body reveals a folded piece of paper with Marthysan’s face sketched on it, the name of the inn, and the words “New Harbor docks, Aspis handoff”

Pallas' brows furrow as the note is translated for him. (I'm assuming it's written in Tien)

"Let us to the New Harbor docks with all haste, I think."

The docks are currently empty, as the New Harbor locals and docked ships’ crews and passengers are all at the Grand Pavilion participating in tonight’s festivities. The narrow wooden piers of New Harbor form a series of horizontal ladders from the shore to a semicircle of anchored boats. Rising 2 feet of the surface of the water, foot-wide pylons support the network of equally narrow crossbeams.

You make your way there and see a ship being loaded and prepped to sail. Risha and her friends from the other night seem to be guarding it. "Well well well. Guess we don't have to wait until our next match to make sure you aren't in the tournament anymore."

Pallas and Chugan are up.

How are they armed and armored?

"I'm sorry to see you in such poor company, Risha. The Aspis have loyalty to no one."

M is a fully armored half orc wielding a greatsword. D is in chainmail with a greataxe. Risha is in studded leather dual wielding shortswords. P is unarmored and unarmed.

"Yea, but they pay ever so well."

Palls is unwilling to give in to Risha's taunts. "Why don't you hand over the paladin and go home. Is the old man worth losing your life over?"

"I could ask you the same thing."

"What do you want with the paladin? What will you do with him?"

"Does it matter to you? I got a job to do. Now fight or get lost."

Brachus mentally sighs

"..it's going to be one of _those_ days..'

Pallas looks disheartened at Risha's recalcitrance. "Fine, have it your way." Pallas spins into action, his hands weaving an intricate spell while he advances, drawing his scimitar.

Cast haste on group; activate battle dance and Dance of 23 Steps as swift and free actions, respectively; move to R20 while drawing scimitar.

Chugan quickly moves up and slashes at the armored half orc.

She then tries to stab Pallas in his kidneys.

Marisa casts telekinesis, and attempts to trip up the enemy rogue.

Marisa knocks Risha prone with her magic. "You little b*#~!!" She exclaims. P, the unarmored half elven woman casts a spell and a giant mass of black tendrils appears on the back half of the party!
