Ooooooh, I just discovered the psionic power Fusion. We definitely need to use that for DBZ shenanigans someday. Counting on you Inubrix.

active: see post HP 151/151; AC 28 (26 currently); DR 15/-; FH 14 Psion 5 / Metamorph 7 / Worm that Walks CR+2

good idea, but itll be a loooooong time until i can get that level of power

We're gaining 2-3 levels at the end of this fight if we're not all dead! :)

My back up plan is to use it on my absurd boss dragon Seiryu from Monkey's thread. "Because having pounced touch attacking flurry of blows with +100 to hit, 96d6+100 damage, AC 150, HP 1500, Saves 100ish, and DC 70 2000 point damage spells wasn't quite enough!"

GM, do you remember way back in the drow catacombs when I trapped the demon in the magic circle?

It's that. Just like before, he keeps it as a ring with Shrink Object.

Sure—I meant, like, what are its stats? Magic Circle Against Evil, standard DC? Or Against Chaos?

Also I gotta say, this is going to be so much fun when

Probably best to read this after your characters have acted:

...y'all remember that Vrocks can teleport at will

Oh, it's just a focus. Essentially a portable binding ring. I could cast any of the Magic Circle spells with it. On it's own it doesn't really do anything.

** spoiler omitted **

Nope, don't remember that.

But now that you do mention it, I do remember that everytime everyone ports along with Gopher, they all get to act. Everytime all the Vrocks teleport, they don't. Can't keep it up forever, but I'll take that action economy.

Flat-footed AC?

Aw man, falling is flatfooted? 27.

For the sake of things moving along, I guess I'll have Illia- be Illia- .

Rocks fall, everyone dies

"Breath weapons and spells cannot pass through a wall of force in either direction, although dimension door, teleport, and similar effects can bypass the barrier."

Which implies to me (and how I've always seen it interpreted) that, since the only listed exceptions are teleport spells, only teleportation effects can get through it. (Or at least, spells like Black Tentacles that require a line of sight to their effect center cannot have that line of sight intersect the wall of force)

HP 145/145, Temp HP: 15, Stoneskin: 90/90, DR 15/Bludgeon and Magic, AC 24, CMD 13, SR 23, Fort +10, Dex +7, Will +12, Per +26, Stealth +38, Active Effects: Prestidigitation, Read Magic, Dimensional Anchor, Deathwatch, Unseen Servant, Nondetection, Fleshy Facade, Comprehend Languages, Invisibility Alarm, Aura Sight, Arcane Sight, Tongues, Greater Magic Fang, Symbol of Revelation

It is my understanding that a person inside a resilient sphere can summon monsters outside of it, because Conjurations spells only require line of sight to the point of conjuration, not line of effect.

Do I have that wrong?

I had that tactic used against me in a game once, so it stuck with me. Didn't think to ask if it was rules legal.

Rocks fall, everyone dies

I've always had GMs rule it the other way.

"Line of Effect: A line of effect is a straight, unblocked path that indicates what a spell can affect. A line of effect is canceled by a solid barrier. It's like line of sight for ranged weapons, except that it's not blocked by fog, darkness, and other factors that limit normal sight.

You must have a clear line of effect to any target that you cast a spell on or to any space in which you wish to create an effect. You must have a clear line of effect to the point of origin of any spell you cast."

There's no exception I can find for conjuration spells, and it says "solid" barrier, not "opaque."

HP 145/145, Temp HP: 15, Stoneskin: 90/90, DR 15/Bludgeon and Magic, AC 24, CMD 13, SR 23, Fort +10, Dex +7, Will +12, Per +26, Stealth +38, Active Effects: Prestidigitation, Read Magic, Dimensional Anchor, Deathwatch, Unseen Servant, Nondetection, Fleshy Facade, Comprehend Languages, Invisibility Alarm, Aura Sight, Arcane Sight, Tongues, Greater Magic Fang, Symbol of Revelation

Alright. I guess I'll send Illia into the sphere to have some fun.

This was my understanding too. Line of effect is a universal rule of magic with the specific exception of teleportation and only teleportation.

I wish it wasnt the case. Trust me. I'd love to send conjured creatures at my enemies from the safety of my force bubble.

Rocks fall, everyone dies

It's cool. The point of the Force Sphere was that the enemies inside it are more complicated, and I didn't want to have to make their stats/play them in combat until I was dealing with less other stuff in the fight.

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

Umm..

Gaze attacks work through a Wall/Sphere. Thus, I am pretty sure it doesn't block LoE.

The Wall is invisible, so unless somehow a wall you can't see also makes things behind/inside it also unable to be seen, you have LoE.

M Humanborn

yeah in another game we did a WoForce to keep enemies out but had to do an illusion of a wall of stone just behind it to block LoS.

Rocks fall, everyone dies

Gaze Attacks don't work on line of effect or even LoS; they work on whether the target can see the attacker.

that just sounds like two-way line of sight

Rocks fall, everyone dies

Gaze only requires reverse LoS; if the gazer is blinded, it still works.

And LoE is not LoS. A glass window blocks LoE (for everything except teleport spells, which usually call out bypassing LoE) but not LoS.

Yeah, but you can't use Gaze effects through scrying, and they don't work off of mirrors either (what with using a mirror to see your opponent specifically aiding against gaze attacks). That sounds line of effectish.

Rocks fall, everyone dies

That's because scrying only shows you an image (similar to how you can see a gaze attack in a reflective shield). Arcane Eye, which uses your own senses, does subject you to gaze attacks IIRC.

M Humanborn

Tomorrow I will be traveling outside the US on vacation and will return on October 6th. During such time, I will likely be very sparing on the boards, and I imagine connectivity may be an issue. Please bot me as necessary. I will still try to get some posts in or at least keep up with games while in my hotel, if wifi-allows.

Rocks fall, everyone dies

Update: Computer's sorta broken. Also, the next two weeks will be the busiest of my entire year. Stay tuned.

Rocks fall, everyone dies

Okay! Computer's fixed (I couldn't copy+paste reliably before, which meant only short posts on the forums). But I need about 1-2 hours sitting down to get through the next round of combat. We'll see if I have time in the next week (I'm giving my two biggest presentations of the year, on different subjects, and that's sort of consuming everything atm)

What it says on the tin; Caffiene addict 20

Ok. Thanks for the heads up.

Male Alacritous Bralani Stalker 5/Umbral Blade 4

/poke Dapper!

HEY!! We miss you!!

Rocks fall, everyone dies

I know! I'm sorry, guys. I have literally a dozen meetings and three shopping trips this week related to the two conferences I'm organizing, also I need to finish my two presentations for the next two week, and some other things. I've basically only been online in 15 minute bursts, and probably won't have time to run the next round of combat until after friday. Also I got a cold this weekend, and lost my wallet on the beach.

Sorry guys!

M Humanborn

I'm still in thailand but if down to play but also dont mind slow posts

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

Hey Tenro, my brother just flew over there. He's going to be the referee for Thailand's first ever pro wrestling event tomorrow.

Unsure where, but if you go, say hey to Zachary Snow and tell him ya know me!

M Humanborn

Nice didn't know that was going on. I don't imagine my wife wants to see wrestling haha

Is it like Olympic style or WWF style?

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

WWF style. He's super excited!!

M Humanborn

Nice i wonder how that will go with the thai folks

Rocks fall, everyone dies

Alright! I'm not dead! My busiest september of all time is now over, my next major project is in April, and I should be resuming the game as soon as I've slept for several days.

Male Changeling Fighter 1, Monk 1, Rogue 1, Ranger 1, Actor 5

The haunted house I help with every year is kicking into high gear. My posting time will be extremely limited until next monday. Please bot me as necessary.

Male Alacritous Bralani Stalker 5/Umbral Blade 4

<waits patiently for Dapper to arise from torpor, excited to get back to playing again>

Rocks fall, everyone dies

And I'm back! Sleep, etc. Gimme an hour or two to post the next round of combat...

Rocks fall, everyone dies

Might start approximating things a bit. Basically, you guys just got to Phase 2 of this fight. (you don't actually need to kill *all* of the demons to win this one...)

FYI: This weekend is Pride in Atlanta and I won't be available much. Shouldn't be necessary, but you can bot me as needed.

So, the GM's back, and now everyone else has to leave? :P

M Humanborn

I'm back now. I have a spotty time coming up (entertaining out of state visitors) but for the next few days i will be on much of the day.

V: 56/56, W: 74/74, Temp HP 18, AC 17*, Fort +11*, Ref +9, Will +10*, Rage 23/23 , Power 9/9, Psi 7/7, Active Effects: Bull Strength

Rules question:

Say, Raxus Grabs a Vrock with an AoO. He hits it, grapples it, yanks it adjacent to him, constricts it, and then lets go.

Does the Vrock stay flying, or does it fall?

Rocks fall, everyone dies

Sorry guys! Distracted by Jewish holiday stuff. I'll try to update combat tomorrow night, and bot anyone who hasn't acted or said they're going to.

@Raxus: The Vrock falls, but it can take a move action to resume flying on its turn.

Rocks fall, everyone dies

Sorry! Long day at work, just finishing up experiments and leaving lab now. Maybe I'll be a bit more free tomorrow. >.>

Male Alacritous Bralani Stalker 5/Umbral Blade 4

Hey guys, recovering from LASIK surgery and am only allowed online for short periods of time. Haven't yet had a chance to catch up on gameplay just yet.

I've wanted to do that for years. Enjoy your new eyes.
