Thanks guys!
And Mothman,
As for what Troy's been doing in the meantime; He could be back in the town, trying to find out more about Gosia through the locals. Asking too many questions might've made someone upset so that Troy decided to stay out of the inquisitor's sight for awhile. He would also indulge in a little gambling, if the opportunity was there. Whatcha think?

Sounds good. We'll try not to take too long! In the meantime, do you want to bump Troy up to second level? With just enough xp to get there. His gambling has been hit and miss, so there's no overall net gain or loss in wealth at this stage.

Thanks Arctaris.
Hmmm ... so I don't seem to have very many players right now...
Apologies to everyone for my absense. I've had two days of training so haven't been at work with regular access to a computer as normal. And what with a busy week at work and nearing footy files on the weekend I forgot to warn you all on Friday afternoon. Will be back into work as normal tomorrow.

![]() |

Ah, a new level at last. I believe I'll be taking my first level of fighter, as planned.
Vendle - would you be able to post your updated character within your character's profile (similar to how the other guys have done it?)
Also, we're moving a bit slow at the moment, hop you dont mind waiting to get Troy back into the game, might be a few weeks...
Thanks for the headsup Twiceborn.

Mothman, how close do you think we are to finishing the adventure? Looks like I may be DMing an adventure IRL for some new players in the next couple of weeks, and I was thinking of running Valley of the Snails... I'd like to do some advance prepping, but don't want to read ahead and spoil the end of this chapter in our PbP (even though I think I'm pretty good at separating in-game from out-of-game knowledge).

In game time we're probably a couple of hours away at most from finishing the bits that have much resemblance to the original adventure ... but that might take a while to play out!
I'd say go ahead and read it whenever you want, I trust you on the meta-gaming thing. Still, if it's possible to wait for this fight to finish up, that'd probably be cool, if nothing else so it's not spoilt for you. But to stress, reading the adventure will in no way give away what happened to the girls in the village, or what will happen re Gosia or anything, 'cos I've added all of that. I've also changed the abilities of the villians somewhat, so not giving too much away there either. (It may give away what happened to Jarred though ... and you'll probably note the slight name change!)

Thanks. I'm now thinking of running them through the Shattered Gates of Slaughtergarde instead. It should be a good intro to the game, and I won't have the temptation to flood them with too many socio-historical details, which I would be more likely to do if I set an adventure in Greyhawk (which is where I would set Valley of the Snails, as per the adventure background).

Folks, I'm having internet problems at home (I can't access the net at all!). A technician is supposed to come by Thursday afternoon. I unfortunately don't have much time to post from work, sooooooo... DM, please NPC me as required until further notice! Sorry for the inconvenience!

That's ok ... things are a bit quiet right now anyway. I'll probably have to DMNPC Jirkin and Keildrithe this turn to move things along back to Alton and Laithe again.

![]() |

Ok guys, I've posted to the game thread.
AWED, I'm not sure if you're around at the moment ... but do you want to continue with the game? Your posting has been quite sporadic lately, I'm not sure if you're still interested?
Please let me know, so I either know you still want to play, or look at what to do from here on if you don't.
Also, I'm not sure how much longer I should give Dirk, I'd rather not NPC someone for so long. Does anyone have any insight or ideas?

TwiceBorn |

Mothman, needless to say, I'm online again and ready to post when my turn comes around again.
By the way, if you're looking to recruit new players to fill gaps in the party, I can ask one of my friends if he'd be interested in joining. He declined earlier in the year because he was up to his eyeballs in wedding and honeymoon prep, but now that that stuff's out of the way, I think he might be interested in joining. Let me know...

Utak |

Hey Mothman,
Your game is having a good run. I would like to see it continue. If you are in need of players, and you'll have me, I would like to join up. Probably would be best if I waited until returning from my trip, but I could get a character generated and fleshed out for you to work in at some point. Also, this would give me the opportunity to game with Twiceborn again. Just let me know. If others show interest though, feel free to throw me to the wolves to give others a chance to play.
Cheers

Utak |

Utak - how are your recovery and the new job going?
Hey TwiceBorn,
Everything is going well. The injury turned out to be nothing serious. I am back at work full-time and going to PT 3 times a week. My goal is to be through PT in two more weeks so I can still do some hiking in Canada. I have not started my new position yet. I am cleaning up my old job until after my vacation, but things are looking real good. I was not going to say anything until I had confirmation, but the traveling aspect of my new job may be less intense. If this is true, once I get settled, I may be interested in restarting Erian's Glen. I actually really miss playing that game. I just knew that I would not have the time to solidly DM a game at the moment.
Hope all is well with you. Happy Gaming!
Cheers

AWED, I'm sorry for your loss. Hope things are ok. I understand about not being able to play, its ok, look in from time to time and let us know how you're going.
Utak - welcome aboard, I'd love to have you on the crew. Let me know what character ideas you had in mind - there's some world info on the first few pages of this thread. Alternatively, if you like you could take over AWED's character, a half elf wizard - feel free to rework the character a little if you take this tack. It would have the advatage of getting you into the game sooner, but honestly, it's up to you.
Twiceborn, if we have another opening, I'll kepp your friend in mind.

Utak |

Hey Mothman,
Thank you for your gracious hospitality. My first inclination would be a Human Sorceror. I am rereading your world info and will give you a more detailed concept throughout the weekend. Rough week-need sleep first. Should I create a first level character or should I stat up to 2nd level to be on par with the others?

Thanks Everyone:), I will keep watching the PbP to see how you guys are doing:). Dirk said he will be back on the computer by thursday , I am doing better now,and school going taking up more of my time. Good Luck everyone, and may Gosia be saved:).

No need to worry about rushing to the end of Valley of the Snails anymore. I've decided to go with "Escape from Meenlock Prison" as my first adventure, and will probably head into Valley of the Snails after that. But I'd say that group probably won't start playing for another 2-3 weeks, so we probably won't play Valley of the Snails until 4-7 weeks from now.

Utak |

Hey Mothman,
Just dropping in for a status update. I am working on a Human Sorceror from Lorin. I am currently in the process of reviewing the gaming thread to write a suitable backstory to put me with the other companions. I am about half way through and hope to finish by tomorrow. Once I have a background idea, I can either e-mail you a summary or post it here for your approval. Whatever is best for you, just let me know. Also, while reviewing the threads, you requested mention if we had access to Dungeon Magazine. I am (or at least was) a subscriber, but I do not recall the adventure you are currently running.
Cheers

![]() |

Sounds good Utak - you can post the details here in a spoiler if you like. Second level is fine, but use maximum starting cash for a first level character for equipment.
As for background, you might consider giving a shout-out to Vendle who plays Troy Kamgul in this game; he's been away for a while, and his character has been waiting back at the village - you could possibly link up a background with him.
Otherwise,

Utak |

Mothman,
I think you are reading my mind. While reviewing the threads, I was considering both of your suggestions. Are you sure we are not long lost brothers? :)
Edit: Our last posts were even at the exact same time. How freaky is that?

Heh, I know! Well, at the time we posted mine was 1 second ahead. ;-)

Nice one; looking forward to running that one one day (but not in this campaign). If you haven't yet, check out James Keegan's campaign journal for his Styes campaign - he gives a very flavoursome description of his group's run through Meenlock Prison.

Utak |

Utak, welcome!
I'd be fine with working out some backstory with you, even if it's brief. Just sitting back, playing WoW and waiting for the stage to be set for my rogueish fighter to reappear.
Vendle,
Thank you for the gracious welcome. I am almost caught up on the gaming thread. Then I plan on running a few ideas past Mothman to see if they would fit into his world. I should be able to get back to you by tomorrow to coordinate backstories.
Quick shout out to everyone. Glad to make everyone's acquaintance. I have had the pleasure of gaming with TwiceBorn and Arctaris already, and I look forward to gaming with the rest of you.
Cheers

Kajetan Armanno |

Hey Mothman,
Below is a tentative summary of my background for your review:
Since Dragons are rare but Fey are making a come back I figure that my innate magical ability would come from Fey.
Some Fey (do not have the details on what Fey yet) are returning because they fear that the Human following of Arton will destroy all sources of arcane magic in the world. These fey have devised a plan and ritual (still working on details) that will give an unborn child the innate ability to understand arcane magic. While the mother sleeps, the fey perform this ritual on the fetus. The Fey believe that if this ritual is performed enough, there will be a large number of magic-users to stand against the Artonites, allowing magic to thrive in the world.
Kajetan had this ritual performed on him while in his mother’s womb. Being from Lorin, he was accepted in society and hailed for his magical talent. He studied a lot and sought information from books (Do the Lorin have books? Libraries?). During his studies, he came across one specific artifact that a mage of some renown carried with him to the mainland to do some research several hundred years ago. (still working on the details to this) The mage was never heard from again. This peaked Kajetan’s interest because this artifact would help deal with a crisis (Still working on this too) that is effecting his village, town, city in Lorin.
Eventually Kajetan finds himself in Barg. One morning people gather in the town square because the constable and clergy are burning a witch. Kajetan stands in the crowd not knowing what to do, but feeling anxious about the coming events. When the witch (Gosia) is brought out he feels a connection with her. ( I can change this, but I am imagining the possibility that Gosia had the same ritual performed on her while in her mother’s womb). Feeling this connection, Kajetan is about to do something when a powerful energy comes from one man and starts to control most of the crowd (Keildrithe). Kajetan is also mesmerized into inaction. Deciding too late that he also wants to help Gosia, he learns that one of the Bard’s companions, Troy, has stayed behind. During this time, Kajetan and Troy have formed a friendship.
We could then roleplay some of this, set out to find the others, wait for their return, or something else per your maniacal devises. Let me know what you think and if anything would not fit and would need to be changed. Also, if you have suggestions regarding my open-ended details, any thoughts would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Utak |

I've been a while looking at the discussion thread and it seems a lot has been happening!! Utak, welcome to the game, good to have you aboard.
Awed/Jirkin hope all is well at your end and that you drop by from time to time.
Thank you for the welcome.
Kajetan is looking forward to adventuring with Laithe.

DM Mothman |

Sounds good! Alright, some more detail…
I’ll have a think about the wizard and the artefact. I’m fine with the idea, I’ll try to think of some names and possibilities for you…
Yep, Lorin has books and libraries.
Also, might be good to start up a new discussion (or game) thread for Troy and Kajetan to “meet”, discuss things, perhaps have a few adventures while we wait for the others to get back to Barg? Sound like a plan?

Utak |

Sounds like a good plan to me. I should have Kajetan fully statted with a rough draft backstory for your review by tomorrow. Since I will be away from 9/23 - 10/5, did you want to start anything prior or wait.
Vendle,
I mentioned this to Mothman earlier. My wife and I are vacationing from 9/23-10/5. My backstory is tentatively including Troy, but I would hate to hold you back from re-entering the game. If you would rather, I could find a different intro for Kajetan.
Cheers

![]() |

There's every chance that they won't get back to the village before then (you know the slow moving nature of pbp games).
I think it'd be cool to start something with Troy prior to then (either as an "in" or "out" of character discussion) ... we don't need to catalogue the whole time the others are away, but you two should meet and maybe get to do some stuff, or learn a few things.
When the others get back to the village, we will "fast forward" to that point - if Utak is away on holidays when that happens, the group will meet Troy first, and Kajetan can be "doing something else" and will be introduced when he gets back.

![]() |

I don't know why posting meeting with Kajetan would keep me from joining up with the group as quickly. I'd like to write up a little of their meeting and perhaps a mini-adventure/encounter, which should easily flow into the storyboard as a "meanwhile, elsewhere" sort of chapter.

Yep, that's what I had in mind. Who knows, you might even learn something of vital importance to the game - and the rest of the group ... just maybe ;-)
We'll wait till Utak's ready and then start up a new thread for it I think.

Looks good Utak:
The other one I’m considering is called (I think) Fey Blooded. It’s from a back issue of Dragon mag (have to go through them and find it), and gives you a bonus spell known at each spell level, while restricting certain spells that you can learn.
Honestly, I’m considering giving you both if you come up with an interesting background story that can justify it (I’ve always kind of thought that sorcerers should get a bonus feat at first level anyway…)
Another thing to note is that we have implemented a house rule for spellcasters, where you get bonus 0 level spells (added to spells known AND spells / day) equal to your relevant ability modifier (Charisma in your case).
