You start off Strange Aeons with a bit of memory loss. I dialed that up to full blown amnesia as a GM and generated characters for the players (carefully picking classes they hadn't played but knew they'd like), I also equipped them as if they were level two or three and the players had fun going through their gear wondering why they had certain objects (like one had a wedding ring he wasn't wearing but was still carrying around).

For one of the players it was her first RPG but she has a real knack for disabling haunts permanently. Sadly not a game we get to do very often.

Until the end of Bulvi's go it's grappling him so it also has the grappled condition. I don't think you can make attacks of opportunity (bar special rules) when grappled.

Ah, I guess the special rule for this creature doesn't kick in until the *second* round it grapples you, so you're right, no AoO while Bulvi is grappled. Selena's initiative is after Bulvi, though, so she'd still need to worry about moving through its threatened area.

I was realizing that I should have just said that Bulvi delayed long enough for Selena to move through the threatened area before breaking out of the grapple.

The wrath of the righteous CRPG has some insane encounter building. It's like every class and ability was thrown into a blender and randomly added to trash mobs with no limits or guidelines. Like a boss will be some CR15 cultist with some immunities, and a trash demon will have 42 class levels. And they'll be like 3 rooms away from each other so you can really compare and contrast.

With the cat’s explanation, this must be a wolf in sheep’s clothing (one of my other PCs faced one). While Fin wouldn’t know the creature, Tez might…once we kill the creature, I was thinking Tez might rush forward and cast breath of life but only on the cat. Might not work but, if it does, the cat might a good one to keep around…

From a roleplaying point of view, this is something Selena's character feels very strongly about, and we all know she carries a reincarnation scroll around with her...

Maybe, but in spite of the illusion and the trickery of the monster part of this entity, I think the cat spirit is being fairly straight with us, and its already told us it didn't see much of Baba Yaga and doesn't know much about the Hut's various transit points. It could probably tell us about its mistress, and if we ever get back to Irrissen, it might have some pointers once we go for Elvanna.

From a roleplaying perspective, I'm not sure Tezuzu would blow his Breath of Life spell on Syvet. He's already made clear he's no fan of the white witches after what happened to his clan, and he'd be reluctant to use that spell when we might still need it to save a party member.

Aye, you're right...Tez has been absent so long, I'd forgotten that as well...and Feathers always was concerned about time to recover his spells and not waste 'em. Plus, if we run into something strong before we leave the hut, one of us might need that spell as well...so guess it's up to Selena to see if she might want to reincarnate the cat...

Just from player knowledge on how wolf in sheep's clothing, the familiar is likely already dead so Breath of Life wouldn't work. Reincarnate would be the better option.

We could get funky and have the familiar reincarnate in a humanoid body if we still wanted to bring in a replacement for Tez.

You're probably right, Maka. I wasn't sure though since the cat somehow 'merged' his consciousness with the wolf in sheep's clothing so I thought it might be worth a shot...but I agree with you and Q that reincarnation is a better option, if Selena thinks it's worth trying...

Selena will indeed reincarnate the cat, though she'll do it once she completes an item to do it. She bought the materials for it (among other ideas), but I've been forgetting to actually build it during downtime.

Losing a family member can be very unmooring. I remember when my grandfather died -- he was one of those people you couldn't imagine ever dying. He was just central to our family. And I remember oscillating between regret that I'd left so much unsaid between us and nostalgia for all the things I loved about him and disbelief that he could actually be gone. I got a little choked up at the memorial service and was glad when it was over -- I didn't want to talk to any of my other relatives. I wanted to be alone with my memories of him. And I wanted to go back to ignoring the fact of death.

When you lose someone, you become the pond that's been hit by the pebble, and you just have to let the ripples happen. You long for the stillness to return, and when it does it somehow means a little more than it did before.

Find your equilibrium again soon.


Question, how long can I hold spell charges? I've still got all 8 chill touch charges, and dismissing them doesn't seem like the best idea right now.

Looking it up, I believe the answer is "until you cast another spell or touch something". Oddly enough it's under Combat, section cast a spell.


True, but some GMs feel that it was written expecting only combat and therefore won't let charges last long periods of time between fights.

If it were hours later I might have a complaint (because that would mean you'd gone hours without touching anything), but given it was just last encounter you cast the spell it's fine.

I had actually misread Fin's post and posted before I reread it. I got a nine on dice for a total of nineteen. With Tez relegated to NPC Bulvi has the best will save... provided he's got his safety sword in hand.
