I'll allow that, though looks like you didn't need it with Tezuzu's help.
GM_Almonihah
So, we're coming up on the last location in the adventure path where it would make sense for you to pick up a new healer. How do you all feel about whether or not to replace Tez now?
Maka Na'Shota
I'm okay with replacing Tez. I wouldn't mind a full divine caster and it will take some pressure off of Quasit. Who has been doing a great job RPing Tez by the way.
Habbit of the Winter Explorer: When the hood of the habit is drawn up around the head, the wearer’s eyes turn a piercing sky blue color. The wearer becomes immune to snow blindness and gains the ability to see through natural or magical fog, sleet, snow, and other similar weather conditions with a range of 60 feet.
This is a real nice way for Quasit to get sneak attacks off. And I don't suspect we'll be dealing with any less cold environment troubles than we have been.

I also vote for replacing Tezuzu. I have enjoyed RP'ing him but I confess I'm not comfortable with playing the shaman class, and given a choice I'd completely rework his spells and abilities, but I felt that would be going a step beyond simple Botting of the character. This party has long been in need of a true healer--Tezzy's real use in the group has been his knowledge skills and his fatherly presence.
As for the Habit, I was definitely wanting to claim that for Quasit, but I didn't feel it was right to just grab it. We'll discuss it in character.
GM_Almonihah
You've never heard of her having a son. Plenty of daughters, obviously, but this is the first you've ever heard of a son.
Sounds like I should put together a recruitment shortly. Though I think I'll wait until you figure out where you are so I don't spoil too much with the recruitment...

I’m good for replacing Tez as well. Q, I appreciate you taking on that extra RP duty for so long, as Maka said, you did a great job…
Sakitu

I'm all on board with getting a Tez replacement. And I'll also state that Quasit did an outstanding job botting him. And also, Quasit, I agree that you should have the cloak.
Quasit*

Thanks guys.
I think the Habit is more like clothes than a cloak. So it actually doesn't take up a chest or shoulder slot. It's kinda deluxe cold weather gear. But I'm kinda into having blue eyes, like a fremen.
Findurêl
|
Yeah, I think the habit would be best for Quasit…maybe Fin can play Duncan Idaho (except with a bow) to Q’s Fremen…
Have any of you seen the Dune movie yet? I thought it was really good…can’t wait till the second one comes out…

Dune was very very good, and I'm a fan of Denis Villeneuve altogether. But I didn't realize going in that this was just a Part 1, so that left me feeling hungry for the rest, and my understanding is that there isn't even an agreement to start part 2 yet, because the movie industry is just super nervous these days. But yeah, a big step up from Lynch's Dune from the 80s, and I say that as someone who really likes David Lynch's stuff too.

Does the Obsidian Raven send messages to anyone we choose? Or only to the mercane?
My original impression was that it was basically just a beeper for the one guy to come and buy/sell with us. But if it can send messages to anyone, that opens up a LOT of roleplaying possibilities, as I think most of our characters have people they'd want to contact.

If the creature in question is not on the same plane of existence as you are, there is a 5% chance that the sending does not arrive. (Local conditions on other planes may worsen this chance considerably

Seems like as long as we are familiar with someone we can send them a message and get one back. Definitely good for checking in with family.

I just read last night that the second film had been given the green light, set for release in October 2023…
As a fan of the book, I was hugely disappointed with Lynch’s Dune (and I’m a huge Twin Peaks fan)…the visuals and feel of the movie were good but he changed way too much of the story. But in his defense, there’s no way Dune can be done in one movie…
Have you seen the Sci-fi Channel mini-series? That was much more faithful to the book and I really liked it. It’s worth a watch if you haven’t seen it…

That's definitely possible, just remember that plane shift is inaccurate so you'll need to plan for it to have plenty of flight time.

Well hooray for part 2 in 2023!
I remember seeing Lynch's Dune (having never read the book) and feeling like 'What the hell did I just watch?' Aside from the flying fat guy and Sting yelling 'I WILL kill HIM!'and Brad Dourif having a gross crusty mouth, it just seemed so pedestrian and oddly dull. The Blue Velvet guy can ride a sandworm so he's the messiah? ok...
Interestingly, a friend of mine was at art school and actually met David Lynch, who was giving a talk. Lynch was apparently very open about how much he disliked his own movie, and that Dune was the one movie he regretted making. It was sort of a Kubrick/Spartacus situation--he was the hot young director fresh off Elephant Man, the studio threw millions of dollars and a star-studded cast at him and told him to go make an unforgettable blockbuster and he just kind of got lost in it.
I've never read the books. I tried. Twice. Both times fizzled out around page 50. I was like 'this is a really long allegory of cold war colonialism fighting over Middle Eastern oil' and just tuned out. But a lot of people like it, so perhaps I should have given it more of a shot.
I have not seen the Sci-Fi channel series. Is it on Netflix by chance?
Findurêl

I don’t think the miniseries is on Netflix…someone was asking about that online a couple of weeks ago and someone else said it wasn’t available via streaming. I have a Director’s Cut DVD that I ordered off Amazon several years ago. It runs about 5 hours total and does the book justice; makes me think Villeneuve will have plenty of time to do likewise since, based on his first movie, both movies should run more than that…
I read an article a week or so before this release hyping the movie and it mentioned Lynch’s version and how he acknowledged that he had botched the movie. It’s no wonder though as that one movie ran 2 hours and 17 minutes whereas part one of Villeneuve’s version ran about twenty minutes more. Kinda reminded me how the movie companies before New Line wanted Jackson to do Lord of the Rings all in one movie…just can’t be done…
I read the original trilogy; I loved the first book (Dune) but I didn’t care as much for the other two (Dune Messiah & God-Emperor of Dune). The Sci-Fi channel also produced a sequel miniseries covering the last two books in the trilogy; I’ve heard it was good but I have not seen it…

Hey GM, about Tez’s replacement…you can pick whomever you like, no worries, but I recalled after your post that someone posted an interest in the thread where we recruited you as GM. I remembered him mentioning he could play a divine/healing character and that he was a reliable/experienced poster. I do not know the guy, I just thought it might be helpful in finding a replacement…his profile is at the link below:

Oh yes, when was Selena going to work on reincarnating Syvet?
On a different note, are you ready to move on to the next day?
Findurêl

Oh yes, when was Selena going to work on reincarnating Syvet?
Not sure what her timing was; she mentioned something about needing to complete something first:
Selena will indeed reincarnate the cat, though she'll do it once she completes an item to do it. She bought the materials for it (among other ideas), but I've been forgetting to actually build it during downtime.
On a different note, are you ready to move on to the next day?
I’m ready if everyone else is…
Sakitu

I'm ready. Sakitu will keep sleeping till the next day so there's nothing for me to post.
Maka Na'Shota
I'm good
Selena Snoe Yelizaveta
I'm good for moving forward.
As for the cat, I got materials at the centaur town. I need to double check how much I got. I keep forgetting about it, but it would be easy to just say I'd been working during downtime.
Sorry if I seem slow lately. I've been working even later on less sleep than usual even for me. Out of a dozen guards, we're down 5 at the moment, and both our cars need stuff fixed, especially as we still are living out of them right now.
GM_Almonihah
Feel free to say you've been working on it during downtime.
Maka Na'Shota
Probably a good idea to have Tez prepare and cast Overland Flight. Assuming the weather permits flight. The last thing we need is the party flying in different directions on a dragon planet.
Maka Na'Shota
I choose to imagine the stuffed two-headed eagle as some sort of fuggler plushie.
Findurêl

Hmmm…interesting, name seems familiar but I don’t recall it. Where did we hear that from, Selena?
I choose to imagine the stuffed two-headed eagle as some sort of fuggler plushie.
I’m hoping it’s a plushie or something like it…she said it’s a mascot that’s kept in a cage…wonder if that means this is a living key? Makes putting it in a cauldron problematic…

I think it was the dragon in the bell tower back in White Castle that Saki MURDERED WITH RAINBOWZ
Sakitu
|
Murdered? You mean caressed softly with scintillating rays of light, right?
Selena Snoe Yelizaveta
I may have missed it, but I was thinking it was an assumption that it was the dragon in the tower. The name itself was in a book from a traveller visiting the first white witch's keep we visited.
Either way, it's good to know if it matters to anybody here. If it was the dragon in the tower, we don't want to be blindsided by their relatives, and if it wasn't actually the one in the tower (as an ap, it could easily be foreshadowing later books, like the dragon planet) then it could be a connection to watch for.
Given the GM's response, I'm guessing it was not foreshadowing and that it is probably meaningless at this point, but that's meta-game knowledge, not character knowledge.
GM_Almonihah
Yeah, it's not foreshadowing anything that's this far into the campaign.
Findurêl

So, are we saying that Selena resurrected the cat before we left the hut? Or is she still waiting…
Maka Na'Shota
the mind boggles at what the denizens of Triaxus are going to think of Life on Golorian after our visit
Well obviously that the vast majority of the population has magical abilities, and those who don't can still do extraordinary things like dodge explosions.
Maka Na'Shota
@Selena if you can pick spells outside the witch spell list for the special bonus familiar spells, then there are few better choices than Haste. And something like divine favor/power or barkskin would be great if you plan to keep getting into melee.
Selena Snoe Yelizaveta
Actually, that's GM choice and not from rule 0. Any arcane caster can gain access to unusual spells through some form of research. So technically, she could have other spells, maybe even unique ones, that Yelizaveta researched. The arcane class spell lists are primarily for leveling up choices and item use. Even sorcerers can gain access to off-list spells this way (though they have to wait till level up for the finished research to actually add the spell to spells known, or not select a spell known at level up).
It is one of those aspects that heavily relies on the gm to arbitrate, which means it doesn't get much mainstream acknowledgement.
Suggestions,
vermin shape
secure shelter
celestial healing/greater
shadow form
deadman's contingency
fey form
etc
These are nice, but I don't exactly have a serious wish list at the moment.
Maka Na'Shota
@Almonihah any luck with replacement? I know a couple people I could reach out to if we need.
Quasit*
|
i also have someone I could approach
GM_Almonihah
If you two wanted to reach out, that would be easier than me writing up a recruitment thread. They'd need to be a member of the Dragon Legion at Spurhorn, or have some reason to be there, so they'd probably need to be a ryphorian. Though I could maybe swing a dragonkin by making a race builder version of the species.
Maka Na'Shota
Reached out, one of the players is considering it. Would having a Dragonkin be an option as a replacement animal companion/mount or the leadership feat?
GM_Almonihah
A dragonkin could be a cohort, possibly. As you may have gathered from Efrixes, they're human-like in their intelligence and advance by class levels. I'd be a bit hesitant to add two characters at once to this already large party, though.
Not that you guys don't already just carve up your opposition.
