Here you may discuss all things discussable.
Aardvark DM |
Pravlox, don't forget Rex's HP as well. As far as money, are you asking what you should have as WBL or what you have from getting paid? By WBL standards you should be at 6k each-ish, I'm not sure what treasure you split up to who from the caverns.
Felgar, you don't exactly know what's going on beyond the fact that you feel sick, and it's taking a toll on you.
Pravlox |
Rex didn't get a new HD this level. As for the wealth, I may have missed it, but I didn't see a list of what we found in the caverns or how much it was worth or what we were getting for pay.
Aardvark DM |
I never really thought to put a list together, but I guess that's not an unreasonable request. I'll try to get into the habit of doing so from now on, and it will take me a bit to put this first one together. (I can't go through the AP and put the treasure. I have to go through and pick the posts where you found stuff.) I'll try to have it up by tue or wed morning.
Rutter |
Rutter is levelled. Meant to do it here, but accidentally did it in the old discussion thread. Will post Rutter's actions in new gameplay thread later today or tomorrow (need to do some shopping). I don't remember us finding much loot in the caves, but how much were we getting from Kroft for the body?
Copper Fratello |
Level Up!
Sorcerer level 4
1d6 ⇒ 1 +1 Con +1 Toughness= 8hp
BAB +1
Will +1
+1 Charisma
+1 skill rank into Knowledge (arcana) and Use Magic Device
+1 1st level spell slot
+4 2nd level spell slots
+1 Cantrip known (Read Magic)
+1 1st level spell known (Human alternate favored class bonus) (Grease)
+1 2nd level spell known
I dont know what to take as my 2nd level spell. I was thinking either Scorching Ray (though my ranged touch isnt great) or Web (though that may hinder our mostly melee oriented party more than it's worth. I'm up for prety much anything right now, as long as the spell is offensive in nature. Do you guys think I should take one of these over the other?
Aardvark DM |
The pay for bringing the body back was 1000 gp, but since it was written for 4, make it 250 gp for each of you.
EDIT: also I would like to try and keep anything that is purely OOC out of the gameplay thread. Looking back there was a lot of ooc discussion/questions from some of us there, and it kind of breaks up the flow of the thread.
Aardvark DM |
Oh, going through the thread I almost forgot. Copper had 3 Con damage, and Rex had 4 Str damage. Ability damage heals at 1 point/day without magical aid.
Nevermind, Neva healed the Con damage
Treasure found
Library:
Scroll of Identify
Scroll of Command Undead
Derro Caster:
Wand of Ghoul Touch (42 charges)
MW Dagger
Vial of blue liquid (non-magical, unidentified)
Spellbook with the following spells:
All Cantrips (Except any from Conjuration and Illusion)
1st - Cause Fear, Chill Touch, Feather Fall, Magic Missle, Ray of Enfeeblement, Shield, Sleep
2nd - Blindness/Deafness, Command Undead, Darkness, False Life, Scare, Scorching Ray, Spectral Hand
3rd - Fly, Gentle Repose, Vampiric Touch, Water Breathing
Copper Fratello |
Spellcraft 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Ring of Protection +1
Perception to identify the blue liquid? 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Heck yea :P
Other than the Ring and maybe the blue liquid, I say we sell the lot of it. The wand ought to bring a decent amount, though Im not sure how much we could get for the spellbook.
Pravlox |
Rex will be taken care of when Pravlox levels as I don't think eidolons heal naturally; fortunately I get second level spells finally and can learn the eidolon version of lesser restore.
Neva Vallastoi |
Behind on leveling, updating profile, etc. Need to provide long-term care to Felgar. If I make the check, and he agrees to a full-day of bed rest, he can get back 4 points of ability damage.
Don't have time to write it up in character right now, but here's the roll:
Heal skill, long term care: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Just barely made it!
Neva Vallastoi |
Sorry I'm short on time, folks. I'll write something up...I like these interludes and want do so something like Copper did. Schedule should clear up tomorrow or Friday.
Neva will be scribing some scrolls.
Neva Vallastoi |
Ok, Neva's going to scribe 7 scrolls: one for each day. Each will take 2 hours as the base cost for each is less than 250gp. The Spellcraft DCs max out at 9, which I can't fail, so no need for checks.
Day 1: Lesser Restoration (2*3*12.5gp=75gp)
Day 2: Lesser Restoration (2*3*12.5gp=75gp)
Day 3: Remove Paralysis (2*3*12.5gp=75gp)
Day 4: Make Whole (2*3*12.5gp=75gp)
Day 5: Remove Fear at 4th (1*4*12.5gp=50gp)
Day 6: Hide from Undead at 4th (1*4*12.5=50gp)
Day 7: Detect Undead (1*1*12.5gp = 12.5gp)
Total cost of scribing: 412.5gp

Anyone handling any logistics during the week, beyond Neva making her scrolls?
Felgar, due to Neva's success with heal checks and the disease rate, she would be able to help you overcome any damage taken daily, and the two days she didn't succeed, no one took damage by saving. Well, unless Rutter rolls differently, as I haven't seen his yet.
Either way, by the end of the week, and it takes almost the whole week, both Pravlox and Felgar have passed the illness. Felgar on day 7, and Pravlox on day 5 both with Neva's assistance.
Pravlox |
Pravlox is content to rest, even after the disease has passed, though he will call Rex for the occasionally discussion and to heal the weakened eidolon once he knows it is done and he won't pass it on to the eidolon.
Neva Vallastoi |
I love the concept of disease in the game, but I must say, the 3.x and Pathfinder implementation is kind of a tough mechanic. The variable rates of healing available, the variable frequencies and cure requirements, how it interacts with skills, etc...it's kind of a pain in the nethers.
Has anyone ever seen a good set of homebrew disease rules? [I suppose I could go ask on that thread]
Aardvark DM |
There was a suggestion of what to sell and what to keep, but I don't think anyone responded to it.
Also, it was a little hidden in my post, but the blue liquid was ID'd as 5 doses of Blue Whinnis poison
Pravlox |
Treasure found My suggestions in italics
Library:
Scroll of Identify keep
Scroll of Command Undead [/i]sell; we have no neutral divine castes, so it's no good to us[/i]Derro Caster:
Wand of Ghoul Touch (42 charges) sell, we have no one who can effectively use it, unless someone other than Pravlox has UMD trained
MW Dagger Pravlox could use that as he currently only has a regular dagger, if no one else in the party can use it better
5 doses of Blue Whinnis poison Do we have anyone who can use this; if not, we may as well sell it; if yes, than we need to keep it
Spellbook with the following spells hold on to it, and use it to setup a bit of a party fund by renting it out to up and coming wizards; this gives us a way to support the party and not have to take away from individual growth

Remember, the dagger is medium-sized. I think Aardvark said he was ok with using it like a small shortsword.
I'm unclear on poison use. So if someone is injured by Blue Whinnis, they try to save once to avoid the effects altogether, and if they fail they suffer 1 Con damage for 2 rounds with another chance to save in each round? When do they suffer the secondary effect of unconsciousness for 1d3 hours?
Not sure how renting out a spellbook works. How much do you get for that, and does the party have the contacts to get a steady stream of renters?
Aardvark DM |
The way I read the poison at a quick glance. The first save is for the Con damage, the second for the unconscious.
I think the renting the spellbook is a great idea. It costs to record a spell into a book. I would almost treat a 'rented' spell as the cost of a scroll of the same type (will have to look at prices), but something similiar. Not to mention, magic item shops may not be all over, but the Acadamae is filled with students.
Rutter |
So they're basically renting the spellbook to copy the spell into their own book? That's kinda what I was imagining. I'm alright with that.
As for the poison, I think the money we'd get for it is worth more than the off-chance that it'd actually work when we need it (there's a lot of variables), so I say we sell it.
Also, Rutter should recover another ability point by the next morning. Does it matter whether it's dex or con? I didn't think there was any set priority for ability point recovery, but I'm not sure.
Pravlox |
If the dagger is medium, nevermind about keeping it. We can sell everything but the spellbook as far as I'm concerned. As for the copying of the spells, the cost for copying a spell, and renting a book to do so, is actually spelled out in the magic section of the rules. It's not a lot per individual spell, but over time, it could provide a healthy party pool; certainly more than if we were to sell it.
Spell Level-Writing Cost-Usual Fee
0-5 gp-2 gp, 5 sp
1-10 gp-5 gp
2-40 gp-20 gp
3-90 gp-45 gp

I'm sorry if there is the sense that there is more to do with this, it's tough in PbP when you're not sure what is expected at any point. There are aspects of this adventure that help to set the scene, things that had been glossed over or missed in the previous thread before I took over (like Blackjack, and unrest story events), that are worth mention. In text it stands out more than it would at the table, because at the table you can just add a side note and move on, but in text it seems more important to have been worth posting. It is introduced more as an interesting event in the city, that helps build upon the story. I hope it wasn't frustrating anyone.
Yeah, as a player it can be hard sometimes to recognize if something is a hook that we're supposed to be biting on. I was thinking of raising the question myself, because I just didn't see Rutter being too intrigued by the boat, and I was afraid I might be encouraging us to go off-course if the Path expected us to really explore it.
Aardvark DM |
For selling the stuff, we'll go ahead and retcon the act (all at 1/2 price as per the rules).
MW Dagger = 151gp
Wand of Ghoul Touch (prorated for amount of charges) = 1890gp
5 doses of Blue Whinnis poison = 300gp
Scroll of Identify = 12gp 5sp
Scroll of Command Undead = 100gp
Total = 2453gp 5sp
For the spellbook I'll try to come up with a method (most likely an average) and give it to you each week/month depending on what it turns out like numbers-wise. This will represent the combination of not having someone copying a spell every 3 hours, and the odds that more low level spells will be copied than 2nd or 3rd.
Rutter, ability score damage heals at 1 point/ability per day. So, if you had 1 point off of each score, one day of normal rest would bring it all back. If you had 2 points off of one, it would take 2 days.
Now, I don't want to dissuade any of you from any of the flavor text, as a lot of is a nod to something else in the story. So, although the ship may not lead anywhere, that's not to say that it isn't a background clue or something later on in the AP. They are good at that, and one of the reasons I love the AP's.
Pravlox |
2450 gp/5(Copper, Felgar, Neva, Pravlox, Rutter) = 490 gp each
The remaining 3 gp, 5 sp can thrown into the party fund, and maybe used to get a cheap apartment where we can gather together, and serve as a common place for healing, making Neva's life easier.
Aardvark DM |
I don't think is reasonable for you guys to spend a lot of time at Zellara's. She had roughly a one-room, cheap place, not necessarily in the best part of time.
Aardvark DM |
That was supposed to say "best part of town"
Sure, if that's where you guys want to meet, it's up to you. I'm just saying as a safe house of sorts, it may not be the optimal choice.
Pravlox |
Let's not forget that the inhabitant of that house might have something to say about it as well. We could probably get something about the same size in a similar part of town, and not have to bother her all the time.
Pravlox |
If she's dead, how has the space not been taken over by someone else yet? Her place, or another similar one, either way, I could see us needing to pay some kind of rent for sustained use.
Rutter |
Actually it had been taken over. By us. Rutter, at least, has been squatting there, but yeah, we can afford a more secure safehouse. Rutter may still sleep at Zellara's though.
Aardvark DM |
Sooo, without a reply from Pravlox, I'm going to say we can assume that either he does tell you all what Grau said that same day, or Grau found Neva on his own.
