The larger portion of the pack surges forward, brimming with anticipation. They charge at the group, slavering jaws open wide.

Hy4, moves to H3, then charges Tulgeikh. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 vs AC

Hy3, moves to J8, then charges Yuriel. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 vs AC, damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Hy1, moves to H9, then charges Tulgeikh. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 vs AC

Hy2, moves to O15, then charges Yuriel, 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 vs AC, Roedd you get an AoO when it leaves O8.

Most of them, grown soft from picking at corpses, underestimate their enemy. Only one even nipping Yuriel's thigh, just under his shield.

Sensing the elf's apprehension, Jacen offers Yuriel advice on squad tactics by way of a sporting metaphor,

"Think of it like a game of fútbol, the most popular pastime in Evo Pezar…"

Remember that as a fighter you mark anyone you attack whether you hit or miss. Marked opponents take a –2 penalty to attacks that don't include you as a target. Also, whenever an opponent marked by you shifts or makes an attack that doesn't include you as a target, you get to make a melee basic attack against them (Combat Challenge).

These mechanics, along with your high Armour Class and plentiful healing surges, allow you to discourage attacks against the harder hitting, yet more fragile squad members, such as Armand and Booj (our forwards).

Male Water Elf (Genasi) Fighter 1

Well that last map certainly answers the question about where the hyenas are! Looking at my options, I can either use cleave to hit and mark two of the hyenas adjacent to me - probably O5 and M5. Alternatively I could use tide of iron to hit and mark one of them, and also push it further away from our squishies.

I'll wait and see what Tungeikh does, but minded to cleave this round. There are two more dogs to come before the rest of the group gets a go and tide of iron might open a hole in our front ranks.

Spoiler:
Art, may I suggest going ahead and posting, unless there's a significant tactical difference/advantage to waiting for Tulgeikh?

Except with a very fast group (and some exist), my experience is that pbp is slow enough without going strictly turn-by-turn. Of course, Aardvark may override this, but my impression is that you and Tulgeikh are both up (think of it as the second one to post is delaying until after the first).

That said, since I inferred a question mark in your post . . . I'm a fan of concentrating attacks. Since Tulgeikh is also up now, something like a Cleave targeting M4 sets up a chance to get one of these hyenas down in a hurry. Free advice, worth what you paid!

Booj Jacen OOC

Spoiler:
Thanks Boojand Jacen, that all makes sense. I've got enough wargames / crpg / PFS experience to have some idea of what might work. It's just all the forced move stuff is new and positioning seems to play a much bigger role than I'm used to. Thanks for the advice and feel free to keep it coming as it occurs to you :)

Yriel grunts as one of the hyenas penetrates his defense. He strikes out, spear point first at one enemy then flowing back to attack the beast behind him.

Cleave attack on M4, additional strike to O5. Cleave attack roll: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 v AC / 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 damage. +4 damage on O5. Mark M4 and O5.

Just a heads up, there are numbers in the lower left corner of the Hyenas. They are a little hard to see, so I will prob try to make them more legible.

Yuriel:
Be careful with marking. The rule of marks are that they don't stack. So if Tulg marks something, and then you mark it, his mark is gone and yours takes its place. Some abilities only can be used when you have something marked. With 2 defenders you have to mind marks, and undoing someone else's. Also, I think cleave only hits an enemy adjacent both to the first and you

Yuriel stabs one hyena, only for another trying to take advantage of the opening to get hit by a well placed spear butt.

To emphasize a decent PbP speed, I will set a 24hr hard cap from your last post. If in 24 hours you do not post, you are delaying and will come back into the initiative either when you do post, or before the end of the round, whichever comes first. If you do not post before the end of the round, I will post for you, most likely with an at-will or basic attack. If this still seems to take long, the time may get dropped to 18hrs.

Booj:
What is a very fast group? I would prob like to be one of those, I check the forums about every 2hrs, except for sleep and every other Sat on my RL TT game. I want to go in order, a little OCD about balance, but sometimes it feels like forever between posts.

Male Human Storm Sorcerer 2

Spoiler:
A lot of pacing issues depend on time zones. I'm in the UK, so I'm mostly posting early morning before the US contingent wakes up, or early evening (lunchtime, early afternoon for the US). Or quite often in the late evening too. As now.

There's not a whole lot you can do about that, and I speak as someone who tries hard to keep games moving along as briskly as possible - the 24 hour cap being the basic. I try to learn player routines and make what effort I can to move things along so the overnighters (from my perspective) can get a look in before I make the morning rounds. It isn't always possible and doesn't always work, but I do try :) There's no perfect answer.

Mark Hyenas 1 and 4 with nature’s wraith then attack H1 with Tempest assault.

Attack vs ac, 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25, damage = 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 if I hit H4 takes 4HP lighting damage.

Electricity sparks between Tulgeikh's horns and H4 as he smashes his hammer down on the H1's head.

Tulgeikh:
You profile isn't updated with the power that you used. Make sure that the the two match so I can use the text as a quick reference if I need to.

When Tulgeikh strikes the beast between him and Yuriel, a loud yip can be heard just over the crack of the warhammer. It appears to be favoring its side.

The last two hyenas, reluctant at first, are bolstered by their packmates attacks. They rush forward to join the fray.

Hy5 moves to I10, then charges Yuriel 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 vs AC, Damage 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 6) + 3 = 13. Roedd, you get another AoO as it passes.

Hy6 moves to H6, then charges Tulgeikh 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 vs AC, Damage 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 5) + 3 = 12.

With the mob press of Hyenas, the last two are really able to sink their teeth into the front line. The one manages to get a good bite on Yuriel, and causes him to bleed more.

Maybe they weren't reluctant at all, and just waited until the rest of the pack to give them an advantage.

Male Human Battlemind / Cleric (Level 1)

Seljak moves into the fray, muttering under his breath that this motley crew of slaves and misfits may not have deserved the disparaging remarks he was making about them back at camp.

Move Action: Move to 05 (the space recently vacated by the drunken hyena) by way of P4 to avoid OAs

Bringing his longspear to bear on the hounds adjacent to Yuriel, Seljak cautiously jabs at the hyenas, seeking to split their focus so no one person is overwhelmed.

Minor Action: Mark hounds 5 and 3 (Battlemind's Demand - 1 pp expended)

Seeing an opening, Seljak strikes at the nearest Hyena.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 vs Fort for 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 damage to H5 and an additional 5 damage to H3, H4, H5, H6 if that attack hits.

Seljak's spear strike digs a furrow into the ground, causing a wash of clods and rock and earthen hail to spray into the hyena ranks. The wash also serves to force the hyenas back, protecting the rest of Seljak's companions.

Standard Action: Earthen Hail - Everyone gains a +2 to Fortitude and Armor Class.

My OOC Tactical notes

Spoiler:
As much as I would have liked to hit H2 and remove him from the fight, I think this worked out just as well. Now 2 hyenas are marked but not near their marker - they will have to move and provoke OAs or suffer the -2 penalty to hit someone else (the retaliation won't likely happen, since both the marks require an adjacent enemy - but some smart movement may allow this). If H2 does go after Yuriel, I will likely manage to take him out with an OA - fulfilling my earlier statement about removing him from the fight. If not and he goes after someone else - he effectively has a -4 to hit (the mark penalty + my buff modifier)

H2 - Dead B
H5 - Dead R

DM rolls:
S 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27, I 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

M Goblin Stone Fist Monk 2

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

Male Human Storm Sorcerer 2

Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5. This isn't Armand's strongest skill...

Male Water Elf (Genasi) Fighter 1

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12. I will wait on outcome of perception rolls before deciding on next action.

Male Minotaur Warden lvl 1

Perception. = 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

Male Water Elf (Genasi) Fighter 1

Yuriel talks to Tulgeikh out of the side of his mouth, eyes still forward and watchful. "So where now? We headed to that pile of wreckage? The path seems clear enough, but there may be more dogs lurking so let's stay in good formation."

Are we heading to the difficult ground around D-G 12-16?

Male Human Battlemind / Cleric (Level 1)

Perception = 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

For DM:

Spoiler:
Post says to mark H4, reading comprehension FTW there old man, and you make fun of MY perception!

Actions not taken, are actions not performed:
You didn't say it, you didn't do it.

As the hyena darts past the wreckage the carrion birds scatter, having taken advantage of the hounds' absence. The flapping being the only thing breaking the eerie silence after the action dies down.

With everything back to normal, you guys are free to continue onward.

Everyone take one turn, order doesn't matter. Nothing is happening during the turn

Seljak:
You need to worry about your own reading comprehension, same perception you always had (the roll just accentuates the point), lol. You wrote that if BOTH H5 and H2 were dead, to mark H4. H5 didn't die, so H2 died but H5 didn't. You didn't say who to mark if either of them survived, just if they both died.

Male Human Cleric 2

Jacen scans the battlefield for more foes.

Perception check 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Male Human Storm Sorcerer 2

Armand remains unconvinced that the battle is won.

"These canaille follow always in the wake of a stronger. I will not rein in my temper just yet, I think."

Readying an acid orb for the first thing that attacks the party.

M Goblin Stone Fist Monk 2

Booj was ready to preen in the wake of the fight, but sees the larger folk being wary. Instead, he reaches into his filthy smock and pulls out a shaped strip of leather and starts fidgeting with it.

Sling, Readying an attack for a clear threat.
