H.P. Lovecraft, The Whisperer in Darkness wrote:
“Transferring in haste, I felt a curious breathlessness as the cars rumbled on through the early afternoon sunlight into territories I had always read of but had never before visited. I knew I was entering an altogether older-fashioned and more primitive New England than the mechanised, urbanised coastal and southern areas where all my life had been spent; an unspoiled, ancestral New England without the foreigners and factory-smoke, billboards and concrete roads, of the sections which modernity has touched. There would be odd survivals of that continuous native life whose deep roots make it the one authentic outgrowth of the landscape—-the continuous native life which keeps alive strange ancient memories, and fertilises the soil for shadowy, marvellous, and seldom-mentioned beliefs.”

A Time to Harvest is a free campaign unfolding over six months, and the first Organized Play Program for Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu RPG.

I plan to play it here, on the Paizo forums, using the Free Call of Cthulhu 7ed Quick Start Rules (until I manage to get the full rules).
Quote:
A Time to Harvest is a Call of Cthulhu campaign set in 1930 and intended for a group of four to six students investigators who attend Miskatonic University in Arkham. What starts as a university field trip to Vermont leads the intrepid investigators into a dark web of terror and intrigue. Otherwordly plans have been set in motion, which if brought to fruition, spell doom for humanity.

Interested? Come along!

Download the Quick Start rules, submit a student investigator, and I will choose 4-6 of them to face horrors which no human being should be subject to!
Use the Quick Start rules Character Creation information, using as Occupation:
Student - Credit Rating, Library Use, Listen, 5 skills of player's choice for their areas of study.
And don't forget:

Dotting for interest.

Sovereign Court

This certainly sounds interesting.

It will probably take me a few days to digest the rules, and come up with a suitably appealing character :-)

Liberty's Edge

Excellent! I was worried there hadn't been any shown interest.
Any question, let me know.

Also dotting for interest, both in CoC7E and how a Call of Cthulhu Organized Play campaign would actually work.

Dotted.

Liberty's Edge

As soon as your students are ready we can begin.
I will start posting information about the other NPC students.

Alright, here are the bare bones of my PC - Geoffrey is the second son of a fairly well-to-do local Surgeon, who, whilst not expected to take over his father's practice, was nevertheless well looked after throughout his youth, and sponsored for a university education.

Classically educated, he was the captain of a moderately successful debating team at college, and his hobbies include hunting and reading (which helps fuel his passion for ancient cultures and far away places), although a little of his father's medical knowledge has also rubbed off on him over the years, enough that he candle relatively minor injuries that don't require a trip to the operating room.

Of course, he is still relatively malleable - if we end-up not having an engineer or wilderness expert, I can change him completely.

I will dot as well.

Liberty's Edge

Geoffrey looks good. Well rounded.

If you are not already full I'd love to play this.

Let me know what you need and I'll get you a character created.

Liberty's Edge

Still on time.
The Student Investigator details are in the first post.

Grand Lodge

If you'll take me I'd like to enroll myself. I've got a copy of the quick start rules (as well as the Keeper's guide and the Investigators Handbook). Would love to play through this game with you.

Liberty's Edge

Please, feel welcome!
PS. Nice avatar!

I'm interested, if you're still looking for student investigators.

Liberty's Edge

I still am

i am interested

Hey Corsario, here's the skeleton of my student investigator. I am brand new to Cthulhu, but I am a part of the 7E Kickstarter, so I have the official rules coming at some point. If this game will be newbie firiendly, I'd love a spot.

Hank is more of an athlete than a scholar. He's at school on a baseball scholarship, majoring in accounting. He's not doing particularly well in classes, but he's doing quite well on the diamond. I picture him with a baseball bat most places. He's in school to play baseball. He'll figure the rest out later.

He's a big strong fellow, who was raised in the country. He grew up hunting, tracking, spending time in the woods, and drinking, not necessarily in that order. He's a bit of an adrenaline junkie, and has been known to race a car on the side.

I haven't put anything down for equipment, because I'm not sure what we would have on us when the scenario starts.

Liberty's Edge

You are welcome, and yes, this will be newbie friendly.
As for equipment you will have the normal stuff a student takes on a field trip.

So, there has been a lot of talk about what an unpleasant bigot HPL was; so I'm now intrigued by the idea of playing an African American in what is a very white milieu. Would Mikastonic University admit an person of color; perhaps some-one sponsored by a 'progressive' Quaker patron of the school. If the idea is too disruptive I'm willing to put it aside. .

Liberty's Edge

Wow! Nice one!
Yes, go for it!

Background: Howard's grand-mother, Ursula, fled slavery, at the age of 13, in 1860, being settled in Mikastonic county by the Quaker community flourishing there. She worked as a domestic, as did Howard's mother, Beatriz. Howard's father was a janitor at the Holland Brother's Mill, until he was killed in a hit and run incident. Beatriz used to take young Howard with her, when she went to clean the house of Dr. Terrence Parker, a teacher of Classical and Ancient history at the university. Normally Howard was made to amuse himself in the garden of the house on Saltonsall Street; but one wintry day, he was allowed to enter the professor's large library. He demonstrated a prodigious fascination with the the many volumes of history on display, and amazed the Professor by being able to recite some of the passages back. The professor allowed the young scholar the liberty of his library, and the young boy spent thousands of hours there, reading Gibbons, Herodotus, and Thucydides. Dr. Parker championed the boy through high-school, and, offered to pay Howard's tuition at the University. Howard is a shy and reticent young man, with studied and elegant manners. A bout with scarlet fever in his teen years have left him somewhat sickly and fragile.

Liberty's Edge

Ok, we have Hank and Howard ready, I think...

For the others... the nice guys at Chaosium created some sample student investigators for this campaign. Maybe you can get ideas (or even a ready-made character) from THERE.

Abigail Crow, the only surviving child of Richard and Lucille Crow. Her older brother having died before the age of five. Her father was lucky enough to own land with oil on it, unfortunately it was not a lot of oil, setting the family up to be comfortable, but not 'rich'. Hoping to find additional reserves on their land. Abigail was sent to study new methods for locating, and extracting the rich black liquid.

Sorry! My bad.

Deanndra Johnson, Dea to her friends, grew up on her family farm not far from Arkham. She has two younger and two older brothers and a baby sister she has yet to meet.
She has an interest in becoming a doctor.
She's looking forward to the field trip to Vermont.

Luck Roll: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6) = 9x5=45

Liberty's Edge

So, about Dea... Is on a scholarship? What is her parents opinion on her going to college?
We have another student investigator!
One more and the first bus can get on its way.
Think about the relationship you have with the other student investigators?
Friends? Friendly foes? Non friendly foes? Casually met? Unknowns?

As Hank is a jock, I can see him not being too crazy about the 'smart' guys in the crew. "Eggheads!". If he finds out any of the others have backgrounds in hunting or outdoor activities, that might be a point they could relate to each other with.

Grand Lodge

An interesting time in history for Deanndra and I, the 20s and 30s didn't see a whole lot of women in higher education, and not in science related fields (Biology/Geology). I would guess that she and I know each other from classes, and probably get stuck together in any group assignments... the boys not wanting to be hampered by the women in the group pulling down their grades.

Deannadra, you good with that idea?

We're also either just about to start the great depression, or are smack in the middle of it.

For Hank and Geoffrey, I imagine that I would have seen them on campus, possibly shared a class or two with them. Neither of them being science majors (going by skills) I don't see us having been in to many classes together.

For Howard, being a proper New England woman I can't see myself associating with him prior to this event. Though, being a more progressive woman I don't see her having major prejudiced, but I'm sure some will come out over the course of the adventure, to ingrained in society of the time.

Grand Lodge

Side Note: anyone know how I go about getting an alert when something is posted to the game?

Liberty's Edge

You are Smack in the middle of the great depression. But your families are ok.
I am thinking there is no much problem for a black student in that day and time, and in the university. But in the town he will be seen as an oddity.
The alert is on the Messageboards main page, where it tells you how many new messages are in a given thread. Or you can try set up the atom feed on the top right (the orange icon). Never done it myself.

That sounds good, Abigail, I like it.

I've not been able to fully put myself in her shoes yet, which is why her back story is sparse. I won't be home till late today but I'll flesh it out more in the next few days.

Grand Lodge

Luck Roll: Luck: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 2) = 12 x5 = 60

Luck roll for Hank 3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5) = 12 X 5 = 60

Grand Lodge

Come on folks, we got 5... need that 6th. Who knows, you might be the one investigator that doesn't go mad during this adventure!

Liberty's Edge

In any case, if we don't have a 6th today or tomorrow we will start with 5.

Liberty's Edge

And we are a go!
Discussion and Gameplay threads up. Please go and present your characters!

Do you still need a sixth?

Liberty's Edge

Not need, but you are welcome if you want to join! Just hurry up!
