I suggest we do our shopping here in the discussion thread so we don't clutter up the gameplay asking about prices and such. I know I'm looking for armor and a shield at a minimum. A breastplate would be nice if not a chain shirt but I think the breastplate is way to expensive (400gp).
I remember that 5e isn't built to be the magic item paradise that pathfinder is. Magic items are supposed to be special and somewhat hard to find. Most require attuning to be able to be used and you can only be attuned to a small number at once (I think the default is three).

GM Infinity |

There's going to be some bartering, indeed. Don't forget you have a ship worth thousands (3000, could sell for 1500 at best), if you guys truly want to equip before the quest, selling that should be first priority. You have at least one gem I can think of and probably some other things you could trade. For example trading a shortsword for a few items of equal value etc.
How about just to simplify and streamline we say you get half price in trade for any item you want to barter. So for example the listed price of a shortsword is 10gp, meaning you could trade it for 5gp worth of items. If you want to sell the ship, everyone could get 250 gp (1500/6) or the equivalent in barter.

Froog Nackle |

But without a ship how am I supposed to be Captain Froog, scourge of the low seas?
Honestly I had forgotten that we could sell the ship. Stupid shrine to the madness on the other one making us burn it.
I suppose the NPCs are using the armor we were carrying along with us. Froog would be inclined to let them keep it if they are.
So I've changed my mind again. I'm looking for a small sized suit of scale mail at 50 gold (14+2dex ac) and a small sized shield at 10 gold. Also, some decent underclothes would be nice (1 or 2 gold?). I would imagine chafing would be an issue otherwise... If it isn't to cheesy, could I get my holy symbol inlaid into the shield for an extra 5 gold? It's in the book but that's a lot of customization for one afternoon.
If they will allow me, I'd like to make a tabard to go over the armor with the "sunrise over the road" symbol. I would imagine Froog could paint it or something as properly dying the fabric would take more time than we have. He'll gladly donate the rest of his share of the ship money to anyone that is short for anything else they need (~180gp).

GM Infinity |

Sure, plenty of svirfneblin size stuff around. Their main trading partners are the duergar and the deep gnomes. The might not have that much coin (180), but you could take the equivalent in gems or sacks of spices etc...mostly just for RP purposes. Might grab a backpack, sleeping gear, food, etc still a long journey ahead.

Froog Nackle |

Oh yeah, I suppose some actual gear would be helpful... I'll get a list together. Froog is going to go from squishy healer to a tank! With the armor and shield my AC goes from 12 to 18. Add shield of faith on top of that and it's 20!

Kriv The Exile |

Come to think of it I should probally keep my swords and get the axes, that way I have options,
Also feel free to take a portion of my cut for the gear, I am already good for Armour since Kriv is actually quite used to being sneaky.

Khaz Dourblade |

Khaz kind of his all the gear he needs. Duergar made clothes. A Silver Warhammer. A shield.
He’d like a Dwarven made shield though...and something gold. Just to wear it. A gold torc is a good way to keep your wealth safely on you.
I like to picture him eventually having arms covered in gold, with enough necklaces to look like Mr T. Paying for things by taking off gold rings or torcs. :)

Edlethron |

@Froog. EdlethrOn doesn’t need more than 20 gp. Feel free to take his boat share and kriv and Khaz’s to buy some of plate Armor if you can.
Cheers

Froog Nackle |

I'm not proficient with heavy armor actually though having a set of half plate would be the best I could get but that's half the gold from the boat sale. I mean, I won't say no but I don't want to be greedy either. As Infinity said, make sure we all have proper adventuring gear and food as well, not just swords and armor.

Edlethron |

2 gp Traveler's clothes - 4 lb.
105 gp Silvered handaxe - 2 lb
2 gp Quiver with (20) arrows – 2 lb.
2 gp Explorer’s backpack – 5 lb.
1 gp - Bedroll – 7 lb.
2 sp - Mess kit – 1 lb.
5 sp - Tinderbox – 1 lb.
5 gp - 10 days of rations – 10 lb.
2 sp - Waterskin – 5 lb.
1 sp - Oil, flask - 1 lb.
5 sp - Pouch - 1 lb
2 gp - Grappling hook - 4 lb
2 gp - Crowbar - 5 lb
1 gp - Case, map - 1 lb

Could do without the silvered to drop the 100 gp, if Froog needs the cash.

Cade Whistler |

Honestly I had forgotten that we could sell the ship. Stupid shrine to the madness on the other one making us burn it.
Did we burn it I know we talked about it and that was the general direction. But isn't that the ship of the high priest who we were talking too?
Does that me we are returning the ship to the priest and they are hooking us up with roughly half the gold piece value of barter. Or do we need to find a buyer and then deal with equipment.

GM Infinity |

No, this arch-priest is sort of like the mayor of Sloobludop. He has his own boat he approached you on before you docked into the city where he gave you the quest. The boat you burned belonged to the cult he mentioned. The boat you are currently selling is the one obtained from the duergar construction site.

As long as they aren’t his.

Edlethron |

Ed bought a cartographer's tools set and some parchment with 84 gp leftover from 250 gp. Profile updated.
@Cade That doesn't include anything for the lute
@All Should we buy more healing potions with our leftovers?

Khaz Dourblade |

So...do I have 250 gold to play with? If so...
Climbers kit 25 gp
Backpack 2gp
50 ft silk rope 10 gp
4 potions of healing 200
Alcohol....? (And can the potions be combined with said alcohol?)

GM Infinity |

Khaz, no healing pots for sale but as mentioned the archpriest had 2 in a secret sacred stash. As far as booze goes, yes there is a tavern, and you can also buy singles in the market. The offerings:
Troll Shit - fermented troll droppings, served scalding hot.
Ulaver Wine - spicy glowing mushroom based wine, a drow fav
Slorbogoorg (Slorbogoorg!) - ink squeezed from cave blind octopi, naturally alcoholic (kuo-toa)
Hammerhead - blood of sentient creatures mixed with neutralized mushroom poison (duergar)
Solid Gold- effervescent lager based on yeastlike bacterial cultures (svirfneblin)
If you really make an effort, you could find a wooden keg of dwarven ale, for ridiculous price.
edit: and probably you were joking, but yeah there are rules in the DMG for potion experiments like that. Combining different potions, diluting with different liquids, etc. I think it was common in older "classic" modules so they added it back.

Gael Lloris |

Hey guys,
I'll try to keep up with the game posting but my schedule is changing (and changing some more)....
GM: up to you whether you retcon me into this fight or I can wait it out if it's too much trouble. I'm Ok either way.

GM Infinity |

For future reference: do the Kuo-toa speak undercommon among themselves or do they have their own language?
They only speak Undercommon, but its heavily accented. You can assume Ed or Shuushar has been translating, I've just gotten lazy with the spoilers. I think of it sorta like Shelta is to English.
Hey guys
Gael, welcome, feel free to RP blasting those in the crowd or anything. For mysterious reasons I'd rather not add you in to the main combat flow tracking though...for now.

Khaz Dourblade |

Just gave the enemy advantage against me. Should relieve the pressure from you. And my resistance to their damage should keep me alive.
Also as for being a Target...you are a large dragon with two weapons. You’re damage output is about, what? 175% mine? Put the two together and it’s going to make you a target. If I was the enemy I’d take you down before hitting the lower damage dwarf with a shield.
