Just outta curiosity why cant I use the rod in melee as well as my hand axe?

I suppose you could with Action Surge now that I think about it. But in normal play, no because to make an offhand attack as a bonus action you have to use the Attack action. The tentacle rod is an Action to activate, similar in my mind how wand of magic missiles is an Action to activate.

Is there another melee character who would get better use of that magic shortsword than Edlethron? Every melee character needs a magic weapon.

How much for an ooze-immune weapon? Double normal? Are there any ooze-immune gloves and boots, so Edlethron can punch and kick without getting damaged?

Ed, as far as getting damaged fighting oozes in melee, that is not monk specific. That is the Corrosive Form ability of black puddings and applies to any melee attacker, regardless of what weapon they hold. You would need some kind of acid resistance or immunity to avoid that damage.

Everything in the Blingdenstone markets is double normal, so yes. Khaz found an obsidian axe, you could find a stone club, razor sharp crystal rapier, etc. Something neither metal nor wood would be "ooze immune" (ie. avoid the weapon damage that results from attacking them).

What is the cost for a silvered weapon in 5e, and can we get it in the market?

Silvered, PHB:

Some monsters that have immunity or resistance to nonmagical weapons are susceptible to silver weapons, so cautious adventurers invest extra coin to plate their weapons with silver. You can silver a single weapon or ten pieces of ammunition for 100 gp. This cost represents not only the price of the silver, but the time and expertise needed to add silver to the weapon without making it less effective.

So 200+weapon cost, since things are double cost in Bling.

I suggest moving along. Vic just wants to be able to fully affect the wererats, either with magic or silver.

Worst case, you could retcon him buying a silver weapon when he returns.
