Yep, Ubagub can climb (climb speed of 30' and bonus of +17). My thinking was that we'd determined the baddies had bugged out completely. Can definitely climb up with Gorruum and see if the skylight can be secured.
Fhârn |
@Will - Being a rather big dude IRL may have skewered my perception of average, but I was envisioning Fhârn in a similar size-class. Mayhaps a little bit shorter, but about the same weight, given his earlier employment as a blacksmith.
@mdt/Ubagub - Yeah, that does sound easier : P
Wilhelm Orlovsky |
I had just figured that most people in a medieval setting would be substantially shorter. Even in the 1800s, people's average height was much shorter then today by about 4-5 inches, if my memory is right. :) So when you said slightly above average, I was thinking more like 5'8-9" rather then above six foot.
Fhârn |
They probably should be, but just like bad dentistry I haven't really seen such things featured in any fantasy game :P
(Avg male human in golarion is 5' 9", going by the random length generator)
mdt |
A lot of the issue with short in that time period was not getting enough food as a kid, and health issues.
Within Golarian and most fantasy games, that's not as true. The magic takes the place of fertilizers and such, hedge witches and priests blessing fields, adepts offering healing at relatively inexpensive costs. That's going to up the average life span and height factor. Golarian especially doesn't assume the crushing poverty that was real in the real world in that time period.
Wilhelm Orlovsky |
Fair enough. It wouldn't make for the most thrilling adventure to have to conquer the evils of malnutrition. :)
So far as IC stuff goes, I think if we have most of the non-magical folk keep watch, we should be good. Whatever order you want is fine with me MDT. I'm not too fussed as far as this base camp stuff goes. Triumph will be downstairs with the other horses and I'll have him keep the stairs mostly blocked unless someone climbs over him while he sleeps. If you need more details (specific orders), let me know. Don't want us to bog down on safe sleeping of all things. :)
mdt |
Given that you guys are moving way faster than the other group (there are some who are posting every 2-3 weeks now), I think you might want to consider altering the paths. They've gotten through one hex so far.
Natalie Saratov |
I was looking forward to a little downtime to try the unchained rogue, but I don't mind going on a detour exploring more of this first.
Fhârn |
Wouldn't mind a little detour : )
(Also, my posting might be sporadic over the weekend until tuesday)
mdt |
Yep, sorry folks. Can't really diplomacy crazy. Options were retreat, attack, or surrender. Looks like it's attack now (although retreat is an option if things go badly). I'll need a day to actually make the old coot and find an appropriate battle map.
Fhârn |
Erp. My plan was, more refined, to interrupt the 1 round casting time on Call Lightning with the snowball : )
Fhârn |
Yah, figures : )
Gorruum |
May as well take this as the opportunity to mention that this is Gen Con week. I'll be out of the picture from sometime on Wednesday until late Sunday or possibly Monday. Feel free to bot me as needed to keep things moving.
Wilhelm Orlovsky |
No worries, MDT. If it makes your life easier, I'm sure we'd also survive without a map (an hour to make?!?). Hope life is less dickish and your family is doing well.
Edit: Hour I was thinking crazy was a misreading on my part. Shame!
mdt |
Map is easy, already built it.
Building the guy is a pain. I hadn't actually built him because I'd expected the multiple hints he's crazy, and maybe more dangerous than he seems, to warn people off... :) The 'really nasty electrical bolt' he sent down as a warning didn't work either, so build.. Unfortunately, this week is killing me at work. I'm actually just getting off work, having to work split shifts this week, 4 hours morning, 4 hours evening.
Wilhelm Orlovsky |
Gotcha. On the other hand, what kind of do-gooders would we be if we let him fry some random folks running around in the forest gathering berries. If Wilhelm learned he left the crazy gnome only for him to kill some kiddos, I'd have to take Wilhelm down a mopey, woe-is-me path and no one wants that. :P
Sorry to hear work is kicking your ass like that. Split shifts sound rough. Wish you the best. :)
Anastacia Stormwing |
The gnome initiated combat, at this point we are acting in self defense.
Next time we are in to re-supply, we should pick up some warning signs we can post around areas that we are unable to clear at the time. Also for area we might want to preserve for the fey.
That split shifts thing does sound annoying. Hope they get you back to a better schedule soon, mdt.
Gorruum |
I'm back from Gen Con. No rush, but wanted you all to know. Gorruum is pretty much following everyone else's lead in this encounter. He doesn't have prior knowledge of the crazy guy that I know of so he'll trust Wilhelm's lead.
Gorruum |
Yes, no worries at all mdt. Still digging out of Gen Con aftermath anyway :)
Natalie Saratov |
I guess the Anastacia with a +4 init roll is mine?
Natalie Saratov |
I didn't know Anastacia had mythic initiative :p I'll just assum the +4 still is me
Fhârn |
Things to get:
1) Smokestick (I mean how did I miss this one?!)
2) Resist Energy (communal?) scrolls
3) A lasso or net to use with True Strike
Wilhelm Orlovsky |
So we don't actually see the source of all this lightning at the moment?
mdt |
You see the hummingbird, but it's 45 ft up, so noticing it's beak pointing to everyone as the lightning crashes down is a bit hard.
As to the source, they came out of the cloudy rainy sky.
Natalie Saratov |
I'm not sure if I needed to make a new stealth check so I did it just in case. Many gm's run it differently.

Also, I will be flying tomorrow to Los Angeles to study a term abroad. I do believe they got internet over there too, but I might not be able/have time/energy to access it immediately. So just a heads-up that I might not post for a few days : )
(Might check in in the morning or on the airport, but I can't promise anything!)
But, for the record, once our turn comes up Fhârn will try and throw the Javelin at the gnome (1d20+26 to hit, with additional range penalties and 1d6+5 damage [cold iron, magic])
Anastacia Stormwing |
Fhârn |
There - update time. Got an apartment which I can move into on tuesday. Internet will with a bit of luck follow real quickly, but I can't promise anything.
Sorry for the delay.
And thanks for the music : )
Wilhelm Orlovsky |
Don't like leaving my sword, but without more ranged/flying folks I'm not thrilled with getting zapped every turn. Away we go (with Wilhelm being the rearguard.)
Wilhelm Orlovsky |
So I don't know what's going on with the other group, but should we continue with our planned exploration path? It seems like things have slowed up a bit over there. We're nearing the end of our planned exploration, we could both meet up (if they have their crazy guy) and switch groups around. Maybe things will pick up a bit if we have more consistent posters in both?
Gorruum |
I'm good either way, but probably makes sense to come back together as we finish the planned hexes.
mdt |
I'd rather not do that. I'd rather keep the people who want to post once a week in the other thread. If we move them to this thread, we'll just end up with both threads being 1-2 posts a week as we wait on people who post almost never.
If there are people in the other thread who want to post every day or every other day, I'll move them to this thread (Offered to a few weeks back).
My own posting is being affected by work and life (wife fell down this weekend and dislocated her knee, again). Will hopefully get up updates today.
Wilhelm Orlovsky |
No worries on your side, MDT. I'm sorry to hear about your wife's injury. I hope she's feeling better soon.
Gorruum |
If there are people in the other thread who want to post every day or every other day, I'll move them to this thread (Offered to a few weeks back).
That sounds like a good way to handle it. I don't check on that thread too often.
My own posting is being affected by work and life (wife fell down this weekend and dislocated her knee, again). Will hopefully get up updates today.
Wish her our best on a speedy recovery mdt. That sounds horrible.
Fhârn |
Good news!
My new american cell-plan comes with free internet which, for some reason, doesn't let me access any secure sites (like logging in on paizo. Probably something to do with switching sims and/or some sort of date error. I'll figure it out). However turning the phone into a hotspot works fine, if a bit chunky.
So what I'm saying is: I've got internet again and will try to catch up and so again : )
(But maybe not until tomorrow when I have an actual apartment to live in :P)
