"We seem to have a deal with the spiders. If we kill the beast that lies to the north they say that they'll return home. Shall we take the deal? If we do, we should scout out and then see if we'll need the elves to help us kill it or not. They're not going to help us, though"

Crax "Craghorn" wrote: "Well, I guess we are off to do the bidding of spiders, in order to aid the elves, to please the mayor to appease the lord. . .crazy" Pavel chuckles at this summary
"Pretty much. But so far we've been pretty successful. Better to talk than to die"

Trekking northward, the better part of an hour passes before you start to notice that the webbing in the area is lower to the ground, and seems more like cobwebs than actively-used webs. Furthermore, much of the webbing has been destroyed, as if trampled by something too big to care.
As you talk about the supposition that you must be in the spiders' old territory, you begin to hear a rumbling sound. It grows louder and louder, sounding like something crashing through the underbrush, but it echoes through the forest and sounds almost like it's coming from every direction at once.

Scanning the area for the source of the noise, Pavel manages to spot two creatures right before they burst out from among the trees, straight toward him! Congrats, they're not hidden attacks with advantage against you. ;)

You all wait tensely for the wurms to reemerge from the woods, when suddenly...

Not enough HP for the DEX save to matter, so...
The barrage of attacks makes the wurm go limp, nearly pulling Corson to the ground before its jaw loosens and falls off of the fighter!
Then, the other wurm bursts out toward Narnel! I'll go ahead and use the Perception you rolled, but also be advised that your second attack comes from a Bonus Action and therefore can't be part of your readied action.

Cedany has little add, Crax seems to have about covered it. She watches the elves reaction though, they seemed to appear a little too quickly, even given the noise of the Wurms Wisdom(Insight): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Seems she'll just remain suspicious

The elven lady stammers a bit, her mouth forming the first syllable of one unspoken word after another as she repeatedly changes her mind about how to begin. Presently, she takes a deep breath, closes her eyes in thought for a moment, then speaks.
"Okay," she says. "My team headed east as discussed, but soon found the edge of the spiders' new territory and therefore doubled back to make sure you cretins weren't up to no good. One of my scouts noticed signs of wurm activity, so we followed both it and you in this general direction until we heard them crashing through the trees. Of course, craw wurms being like they are, we had to brace for an attack from any direction, so we didn't continue forward until it stopped."
She sweeps a hand toward the dead wurms. "Turns out we were pretty close to the action after all. So you lot took out the wurms, and if I've got this straight, you did so because you made a deal with the spiders? That is, you talked to the spiders, found out the wurms drove them from their home, and agreed to reclaim the spiders' territory for them?"
She surveys your nodding heads for a moment, her face incredulous. After a bit, she rubs her temples, then addresses you again.
"That's... really bizarre, but kind of impressive as well. Where did you say you were from again?"
Your nature-friendly efforts have basically un-burned the bridges from your previous trainwreck of a diplomacy session with these elves. Now would be a good time to do some sweet-talking and seal the deal.

"We seek no harm, only to protect our community from threats. Causing problems from our neighbors only makes us all weaker."
To Pavel:
"Do we need to seal the deal with the spiders, I'm afraid my spidrish is sadly lacking, so I don't know the details of your deal, Pavel"
Nicely done!
The elven leader listens to you each in turn, then thinks a moment. Soon she speaks:
"I've never seen outsiders try so hard to preserve the integrity of the forest. Alright, you've earned my trust, at least tentatively. My name is Elless. Give me three days to explain the situation to others and oversee the un-relocation of the spiders. Then, we will mark individual trees in the area that are acceptable to harvest. As long as your villagers only take the marked trees, I think we can get along."
For the first time since you've met her, Elless smiles.
Anything to say to her before parting ways? And are you going to take a rest or make a beeline back to Wood Creek? Or something else?

Remember, you're all starting with 500xp (that's why you're already at 2nd level), so whatever comes out of this chart gets added to that. Also, if two people roll the same option, I'll reroll both of you. Ready? Here we go!
Corson: 1d100 ⇒ 10
Crax: 1d100 ⇒ 4
Holly: 1d100 ⇒ 69
Pavel: 1d100 ⇒ 49
Cedany: 1d100 ⇒ 74
Narnel: 1d100 ⇒ 78
Cedany reroll: 1d100 ⇒ 72
Narnel reroll: 1d100 ⇒ 87
Okay! Here are the results:
Corson gets 3d6x50xp, 2d4x10gp, and a ring of protection (+1).
Crax gets no extra xp and only 1d4x10gp, but has an amulet of health.
Holly gets 5d6x50+500xp, 3d6x25gp, and a necklace of adaptation.
Pavel gets 5d6x50+500xp, 4d4x25gp, and a brooch of shielding.
Cedany gets 5d6x50+750xp, 3d6x25gp, and a cloak of the manta ray.
Narnel gets 5d6x50+1,000xp, 4d6x25gp, and gloves of swimming and climbing.
I'll let you all have the thrill of rolling your own dice for XP/GP. :)
So! Now you can level up your characters (well, most of you), polish up your profiles, and get settled. Also, discuss among each other (here in Discussion, out of character) whether you'll end up picking the wall or the ruins for the town's project. And of course, let me know if you have questions. :)

I want to say that I'm really glad that Corson and Narnel both got in. I knew that my concept was somewhat close to both of theirs, and I tried hard to distinguish my character so as to not step on any toes. So I'm excited that we all get to play! :)

Still voting to go to the keep rather than building the wall. Same reasons as in recruitment post (copied below for convenience)
As Pavel speaks, his voice starts out quiet and calm but towards the end he gets more and more impassioned.
"I have to agree with Holly, it is better to reclaim the keep than to build walls around our town. The keep can far more easily be defended, from there a handful of warriors can hold off hundreds.
Who wants to have to go through a gate every morning to get to ones fields? Who wants their neighbours to know every time they go in and out of town? Who wants their freedom restricted?
And there is another side to it. To build the walls would require us to fell a great many trees. But the forest is good to us. It provides us with food, especially in winter and spring. It keeps the winds off us. It yields up herbs to save lives, spices to make our food tasty. It shelters the animals.
And it is defended. If we cut down trees for no good reason we risk angering its guardians. Far better to keep them as potential allies."

I've updated my character in her profile. I'll create a header soon.
For an example of how to set up the stat line/header, you can all have a look at my own most recent character: Taman Helder
Something along those lines would be nice. Please do not use a spoiler tag in the stat line. Thanks!

Narnel looks at Pavel and smiles.
Pavel, my friend of the forest, the most minimal impact on the flora and fauna surrounding Wood Creek Village is the palisade. I have seen the incursion of nobles and feudal lords before. If we fortify the keep, then it will eventually be for them and not the village. The wood needed to fuel the fires of the keep and fortify it will come from your same trees. The forests will be hunted for sport. The creek will be fished dry for keep stores. The Village of Woodcreek will eventually cease to exist as we know it, and so will our say in its growth and further establishment. Those of you that truly value your home should do everything within our power to help it survive immediately by defending it. The keep can house troops as time goes by, and no doubt will, but if we put up the wall, we only strengthen our current position by addressing the threats before us now without abandoning a tuft of grass or a mote of dirt.

Hmm, I notice that the magic item descriptions are now divorced from effects (and have random tables), can we describe the items how we like (within reason) Cedany would rather have something resembling a bright fishscale pattern than the black/white of the Ray.

@Cedany - I hadn't really noticed before, but I looked in my GMG and you're right, the most description we get is "this cloak". So sure, go ahead and have a different water-themed pattern to the cloth. :)
@Everyone - A word about the stat line: First, even though the field in your profile is labeled "Classes/Levels", please don't actually put your class and level in there, since that just clutters up the field with more info that I have to visually scan past when I need to see something. Similarly, there's no need for your Initiative to be in the stat line, since I can save a batch of dice for initiative and not have to reference that. So, what DO you need to have in the stat line? Here's the minimum:
Armor Class
HP (current/max)
All six saves
Perception bonus
Either your Athletics bonus or your Acrobatics bonus (since this is what's often opposed by an enemy shove or similar effect)
Your three words of personality
That's the minimum requirement. I also highly recommend using that space for tracking Inspiration, spell slots, and other X/day or X/rest resources. I've found it very helpful as a player to have that information there, but if you'd prefer to keep it in your profile, that's fine too.
Speaking of profiles, remember: although you don't need to copy your spells/abilities' text verbatim, I should never have to post to ask you a question about how something works. I should always be able to find all relevant information in your profile.
Once everybody's got their characters about ready and its clear which way we're going for the first leg of this adventure, we'll get started. :)
Thanks!

Folding his arms, the rather imposing red Dragonborn steps forward, "I agree with Narnel, the Keep is a fix to a problem down the road, we need a solution now. The wall will protect the village today, we can tackle the keep tomorrow." Nodding his head at his sound argument, he'll look around, at the others in the room.

Holly nods along with the conversation, smiling, "Very well friends! If we are going to build a wall, let's be sure to build the very best wall we can! It will be spectacular!" She opens her arms wide to emphasize the grandeur she is envisioning. The halfling then turns to Pavel, seeming to address the druid in particular, "Did you know that many of the farms have piles and piles of rocks that the farmers have cleared from their fields for their plows? Maybe we can use some of those to build our wall. I don't know much about walls, but rocks seem like a good idea. Lots of rocks." She then offers one more nod with a genuine smile.

Good choice with the battle master, I played one, I very much enjoyed it.

Once I rolled my stats, I envisioned the sub-par fighter that makes up for it with tricks and technique. :)

Well done! That encounter earned you 300XP apiece. Now, if that's enough to level you up, be advised that leveling will only be happening overnight, during a long rest; not just *poof* right after a fight. But don't worry, you can still accrue XP in the meantime.
