GM Notes:

Holly gives her target a solid one-two, leaving it wobbling like it can barely maintain consciousness!

Crax retreats!

Cedany continues to pump energy into her target!

Narnel finishes off Cedany's target with his staff, then sidesteps and finishes Holly's opponent with a kick!

That leaves the three on Corson, two of which have 14 damage. Pavel and Corson still have actions this round.

Right, its going to be one of those games is it? EVENTUALLY I'll roll into double digits :-)

GM Notes:

Hm, with 2/5 down and itself injured, yeah, I think a 13 should do it.

One of the injured baloths backs carefully away from the melee, then turns to flee! Withdraw action, then 40ft of movement.

The other two continue to attack Corson!

Corson blocks one, but takes a heavy hit from the other!

Party up!

Two baloths remain, both engaged with Corson. One has 25 damage, the other is uninjured.

Holly rushes to Corson's side, twirling her nunchaku as she moves. "Great work, Pavel! Think you can scare off these two as well?" The halfling delivers a quick strike against the injured beast.

nunchaku attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

With her first attack missing the mark, Holly then spins into a roundhouse kick.

Her exuberance has caused Holly to misjudge that maneuver as well, yet she is undeterred in her optimism. "C'mon everyone, let's give these two what for!"

Round 3

Narnel moves in and attacks the uninjured beast with his staff and foot by swinging the staff in an arc parallell to the ground and continuing the spin through as he brings his leg up with a high kick to the face.

Maybe you should just attack the enemy, Pavel?

Narnel, however, gives his target a pair of solid whacks.

Holly collaborates with Cedany and Pavel on where they should continue their search for the sought after trees, using their collected notes. "I think we might have some luck over there," the halfling points. GM Notes:

After a bit of expert first aid (well done Pavel, I forgot about that feat; remember to mark off charges from the kit), you continue on your quest.

I'm assuming Cedany is still leading, with help, so I'll go ahead and roll.
2d20 ⇒ (4, 10) = 14
Just a hair short.

You follow the notes and instructions as best you can, but after half an hour you realize that you had misidentified some bushes earlier and gone the opposite direction you should have, requiring that you backtrack toward where you fought the baloths.

1d20 ⇒ 8

Your backtracking is uneventful, and soon you're once again headed in the right direction. The features which indicate proximity to your goal grow more frequent; you're definitely getting close.

1d20 ⇒ 9

Another 40-50 minutes pass, and soon you find your first specimens of suitable trees! Surely a grove of them must be nearby:

2d20 ⇒ (7, 7) = 14
/facepalm

You see a couple of good trees in one direction and head off that way, expecting to find the grove. Unfortunately, you eventually realize they were just outliers and you're getting further from your goal.

1d20 ⇒ 8

You turn around and head back, losing another half hour in the process. You try another direction, this time choosing a bit more carefully. After several more minutes, you start seeing a noticeable increase in the number of harvestable trees. However, you notice something else as well. The woods are eerily quiet, and even the leaves don't rustle in the wind as much as you would expect.

Glancing upward toward the boughs, you see the reason that they're not swaying very much: the branches are all linked together by criss-crossing strands of pale silk that network throughout the canopy of the area.

Nature DC 10:

Webs of this size would have to be the work of giant spiders, but... It's all wrong. Spiders usually don't inhabit this type of area, preferring to stick with smaller trees and undergrowth where they can more easily put webs across a walking path. Why would they be here?

Oooooh, I like this plan!
*cracks knuckles*

Narnel cautiously scales a tree (no need for a check when not under time pressure, since it's easy to be careful right now) to get a closer look at the webbing in the canopy. He gets about 15ft up and looks around.

Narnel:

You can see a few stationary shapes scattered through the canopy, looking as though they're hanging in place. Your guess would be either egg sacs or wrapped-up victims. None are within your immediate reach; you'd have to do some up-and-down among various trees (or go clambering through the webbed branches) to get closer to them.

The spider puts the webbing over Cedany like a blanket and starts wrapping her up! You've got the Restrained condition, except without the "speed becomes 0" part.

Another spider comes after Holly in the same way!

Web pounce!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

She too is caught!

Three more come after Crax!

Web pounce!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Web pounce!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Web pounce!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Wow, my dice are on fire. With three spiders working together, Crax is quickly bundled up and hauled upward! Restrained (the full condition this time) and 5ft up in the air.

Party up! Well, except for Crax, who rolled a 4 initiative. Everybody else can act.

"Damnation!" Corson steps up and bats the spider on Cedany off her and looks up at a way to help Narnel.

Warhammer: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

Woot! Take THAT spider!

Round 1

Narnel disengages and moves back down to ground levely...climbingnlike a ring-tailed lemur.

"Ooh! Gross! Ick!" Holly makes a face, yet still seems to be smiling also somehow.

The halfling draws her scimitar and begins cutting at the webs, trying to disentangle herself.

I don't know how I do that... :)

I will try an attack roll.

attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
disadvantage: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

She then casts shield of faith on herself. Bonus action.

"We gotta do something about Crax! Can you hear us in there, buddy?" she calls out at the blob of web hanging above her.

"So much for the peaceful approach :-(. Hey, You!! Do NOT take my friends!!!!"

With that, as a bonus action Pavel transforms into a Giant Spider and advances on the spiders holding Crax, chittering madly at the spiders as he goes in an attempt to get them to back off.

I'm kinda assuming that the spider I'm changing into is the same thing that is attacking us

He'll easily climb the web up to where Crax is.

It isn't listed but if spiders can dissolve their own webbing I'd dissolve the webbing holding Crax. Or try. If not:

bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 to hit the webbing for damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Cedany fades out of of view Cast Misty Step as bonus action reappearing a little further out of harms way. and then tries to clear the webbing off herself. Does that need some sort of roll, I presume Prestidigitation - Clean option won't work

GM Notes:

Whoops, I totally forgot to tell you all how to get out of a web. It's an action to make a STR check.

Corson springs into action, splattering in a single strike the spider that had caught Cedany!

Narnel carefully retreats down the tree away from his arachnid assailants! Now that you're trying to get away from deadly monsters, we need a check for the climbing.
STR (Athletics): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 Okay, you're good.
The nimble monk shimmies down the tree and lands lightly on his feet.

Holly quickly pulls her way out of the webbing that's been pulled over her! I'll use your first d20 roll for the STR check, which successfully breaks the webbing. There's still a spider all up in your grill, though.

Pavel transforms into a spider himself, though he's visibly beefier and more published-looking than the spiders you're being attacked by. I'll convert your nat-20 to the necessary STR check to rip open the Crax-cocoon. Spider-pavel then scurries over to where Crax is being reeled in and rips open the sac, dumping the dragonborn unceremoniously on the ground. But since it was only 5ft, no falling damage and you're not prone.

Cedany then pops right out of her web-trap in true wizard fashion, leaving an empty bundle of webs to fall limp over the spider that Corson smashed. This means you don't need to spend an action breaking the webbing, so you can take some other action if you want.

I'll give a little time for Cedany to post an alternate action before I move on to the spiders' turns.

Very good. The bonus to Climbing is +7 due to the +5 circumstance bonus from my magic item - Gloves of Climbing and Swimming.
