Corson, the Green |
Corson draws his warhammer and swings at the little one near him!
Warhammer: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Has the large spider by me come back to me?
EDIT:Just saw the dash action, since it is right by me, spend an Action Surge to attack the large one!
Warhammer: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Oooooo, rabbit! >.<
Crax "Craghorn" |
Roaring, Crax will charge up another firebolt, unleashing it on the most hurt spider.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Firebolt: 1d10 ⇒ 1 fizzle fizzle
come on, this is silly
Pavel the druid |
Pavel backs off into somewhere a little bit safe and sling one of the spiders. Unfortunately, fairness compels me to use the roll above so I miss horribly.

Narnel returns the favor with an attack on the small spider that just bit him.

GM Jiggy: Defense of Wood Creek |
Corson swings twice, but only the first connects, badly injuring one of the small spiders!
Crax supplements the attack with a mild burn.
Holly tries her best, but the poison's pain is too much!
Cedany and Narnel both send their attacks off-course!
Pavel sends a sling stone:
Sling: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9, Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
/facepalm
This is getting painful to watch.
The spiders retaliate:
Small vs Corson: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22, Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Large vs Corson: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16, Damage: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Well at least one of you managed to make it through that round unscathed.
Party up! Please start rolling better. O_o

If we could, we would, boss! >.<
Corson groans at the wave of dizziness that washes over him! Swaying unsteadily on his feet, the fighter uses that unsteadiness to come at the large spider from a different angle, catching it off guard!
Bonus action, spend Superiority die to do Feinting Attack to cancel disadvantage!
Warhammer: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Crax "Craghorn" |
the sleep only lasts a minute, so I believe we are about halfway through that little spider waking up
Crax will look for a way to get around the front line so he can cast a powerful burning hands spell, engulfing as many spiders as he can in the 15-ft cone-like inferno.
Burning Hands Dex DC 13: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6) = 16

Corson, the Green |
Corson, shaking his head clear shouts, "Come on, you vermin! Attack me!"
Cedany |
Can Cedany get into position to color spray a goodly amount of them? If so she'll do so. Its only a 15ft cone, so will have to get up close.
If she can get 4-5 of the little ones or a big one and a couple of small ones she'll up it to a 2nd level slot. It will be DC13. Spray: 6d10 ⇒ (9, 5, 6, 4, 2, 5) = 31 2nd level?: 2d10 ⇒ (2, 9) = 11
GM Jiggy: Defense of Wood Creek |
Phew, that's a lot to dig through. Let's get this sorted out:
Corson pushes through the poison, barely managing to hit the smaller of his two assailants! Small spiders have AC 11. Congrats. The spider crumples!
With that one down, Pavel sends an anger-fueled stone at Corson's larger opponent, nearly dropping it! Up to 23 damage on that one.
Narnel, locked in single combat with a small spider, whacks it twice!
Crax circles around and fires off a (pseudo-maximized) spell across three spiders, killing them all! The large one by Corson and the awake one by Holly wouldn't survive even on a save, and the third is the sleeping one, who auto-fails DEX saves.
Holly is left with only her larger opponent, and despite her poison, manages to give it a solid kick!
Cedany circles around the opposite side from Crax, putting her own type of magical cone across the remaining spiders!
Both are blinded. (If I'm not mistaken, color spray has no save, sort of like sleep; yes?)
Panicked at the sudden turn of events, the blinded spiders lash out haphazardly:
Small vs Holly (DIS+3): 2d20 ⇒ (9, 20) = 29=11, Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Large vs Cedany (DIS+4): 2d20 ⇒ (10, 6) = 16=10, Damage: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
It goes about as well as could be expected.
I would say "Party up!" now, but there are only two targets left, both are injured, and all attacks against them have advantage. Let's move on.

Out of combat! Resting, or moving on?
Crax "Craghorn" |
Panting, his hands still billowing steam, as the residual magic has yet to fully dissipate, Crax'll look around at the spiders fried corpses, "Seriously though, anyone know how to prepare these, I'm starving,"
Corson, the Green |
Corson drops to a knee, "I need a rest."
Second Wind: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Grinning weakly, "I am slowly building up a resistance to spider poison."
EDIT: "Of course, I could eat too."
Holly Berrythwaite |
Holly collapses to the ground. "Whew!" she stares up at the blue sky above. "Boy am I tired! How is everyone else doing?"
I assume we are going to take a short rest, in which case I will need to use some HD.
D10: 1d10 ⇒ 3 :eyeroll:
D10: 1d10 ⇒ 3 awesome. /s
D8: 1d8 ⇒ 6
Can we go home now?
Well, I'm not feeling great, but time to move on.
Holly lays a hand across her brow, supernaturally healing herself. 5
Narnel Falerathon |
Narnel continues to investigate whether this was the nest, or if they are at least headed towards it.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Holly, remember that you add your Con modifier to your HD when taking a short rest. :)
HD 1: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
2 HD burned so far.
EDIT: "I don't relish eating spider. I hath some rations, if you're hungry," Corson offers. After thinking for a bit, he continues, "Are we going to camp here or head back to the village? I know we have much to accomplish anon, with the spiders and the logging, but being able to sleep in our own beds is a luxury that I am sure many of us'll miss."
Crax "Craghorn" |
Picking up a charred spider, and eying it hungrily, he'll turn it over a couple times,
Survival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
He'll take a few choicer bites trying to avoid any venom sacs.
"Yeah . . its distinct, that's for sure, better than rat, I guess," Turning to Corson eating his rations, "I'm fine to press on deeper into the forest before turning back just yet," Flexing his hand, as he looks at it, before looking to Cedeny, "How are you on spells? I could muster one or two more,"
Corson, the Green |
Corson smiles at the dragonman, "I meant tonight. We have a few hours left with some light."
Pavel the druid |
Didn't we already take a short rest and so can't take another? Or am I confused. If we DID already take a short rest and aren't planning on taking a long rest then :
"Let me try and patch up those wounds before we advance"
Same deal as last time from the Healers Kit. 1d6+4+Their hit dice points. Can only be used once per person between rests.
Crax "Craghorn" |
I think we can take a couple of shorts rest a day but only a long rest once, at least thats how we did it in the last game I was in :). Short rests only take about an hour.
Corson, the Green |
You can take short rests as long as you have HD to spend, I believe. But DM Jiggy can make the final call.
Narnel Falerathon |
There are other benefits to a short rest that do not involve the use if HD or gaining hp. I really do not thinkbthere is anything preventing the number you can take.
Corson, the Green |
Maybe! ^_^ But it's all good! Short rests will recharge my Second Wind and Action Surge abilities, as well as my Superiority dice. Keeps me strong for you guys!
GM Jiggy: Defense of Wood Creek |
Narnel continues to investigate whether this was the nest, or if they are at least headed towards it.
As you all stop to catch your breath, Narnel surveys the area a bit. Eventually, you speculate that the presence of the larger spiders probably means the nest is nearby, likely guarded by more of that variety of spider. After a bit of discussion, your best guess is that it's a bit to the north of here.
Corson, the Green |
Corson picks himself up after the short breather and asks, "Shall we find that nest?"
I wonder if we can smoke them out? Make them want to leave? I still think that there is something else behind this...
Cedany |
"If we can find a way without putting ourselves in danger Pavel, be my guest, but we didn't do too well in that last fight, I don't us to be put in unnecessary danger." Cedany speaks calmly though she's not really hiding the idea that she's not used to fighting and adventuring - she tends more towards avoiding and evading danger.
Crax "Craghorn" |
Cracking his knuckles, "I'm more interested in making it out of this forest alive,"
GM Jiggy: Defense of Wood Creek |
Continuing north, it's only a matter of minutes before you spot it: a shell of dense webbing between a few trees forms something almost like a white cave, in which surely must lie some sort of "queen" or matriarch of this area's spiders. Just outside the opening, four of the larger variety of spiders stand vigil, clearly ready to defend their nest to the death.
The guards detect your approach and brandish their fangs menacingly!
Cedany: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Corson: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
Crax: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Holly: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Narnel: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Pavel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Guard spiders: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Every body but Corson can act! The spiders are about 30ft ahead of you.
Crax "Craghorn" |
Looking to Pavel, ”Now might be a good time to uh . . work your magic”
Eyes darting from the spiders and Pavel, wary to fire off a firebolt and ruin the moment.
Holly Berrythwaite |
"You can do it, Pavel!" Holly encourages helpfully.
Pavel the druid |

Pavel will first cast speak with animals (standard action), transform into a spider (not sure if the large ones are CR1 and doable or if he has to use the "book" one. The large ones that are here if possible, the book one if not) and then talk to the spiders.
Chitter. chitter? Chitter.
"Hello. We really do not want to attack you and harm you. But you are in a place you should not be. Why did you come here to MY home? How can we help you to move to a different and better place?
Hopefully that is an animal handling roll. Including the inspiration
animal handling: 1d20 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (19) + 5 + (6) = 30
YES!!!!! (may not work but I can certainly say that I gave it my best shot :-)
Corson, the Green |
Actually, Holly's inspiration was not the bardic variety. Instead it should have been like advantage. But yes, nice roll, indeed!
GM Jiggy: Defense of Wood Creek |
Phew, back from Thanksgiving! So, basically, everyone's deferring to Pavel here? Interesting. Here we go!
Pavel turns back into a spider (use published stats for all your shapeshifting) and attempts to do a little magical diplomacy. He chitters and squeaks, and they twitch and chitter in reply.
"Predator. Hurt queen. Left."
If people aren't going to initiate conflict, we can move back out of initiative for the time being.

Kneeling down to be on Holly's level, "Can't believe this is working, looks like they really are talking," looking thoughtfully at the exchange, "I feel kind of bad for eating on now,"
