Let's try for negotiation. Maybe we can talk our way out of it...that is my decision...anyone else want to chime in??

Dev Vorn |

Heck Dev is grumbling, but better that then being blasted into space...

Is there a way to hack into their computer system and shut them down? Otherwise I'm for fighting our way out of here. Not too keen on give up our goods but if that's what you want to do we could offer them some of the cargo we picked up on the station. Not the isotopes, maybe a ton or two of weapons.

I have an idea but I need to confirm how money works here before implementing it. My understanding is that money transactions and records have to travel via ship for money to actually change hands. Is that correct? If we give him credits and blow him up then it would be like the transaction never happened.

mdt |

No, if you transfer credits from your credit chip to his credit chip, your credit chip would record the transfer. So the next time you dock, it'd auto update from your chip.
You can claim the chip was 'lost', but the bank will honor any other chips that have transactions against yours (including his if someone finds it later, if it should somehow accidentally survive), and then the bank would press charges.
However, you are currently carrying a 'certified chit'. A certified chit is usable anywhere at any time, because it's certified to carry (it's sort of like having bank bonds in a chip), it's not connected to an bank account, all your cash is on it. The military pays non-citizens with them so it doesn't have to deal with people trying to hack their accounts. They put your payment on the chit, give you the chit, and you never know what account they took it from. Basically, since they don't know you from Adam, they don't trust you to know where their bank accounts are. So they just pay you in 'cash' and call it a day.

Sorry heavy work week so far (and it's only Tuesday!!)
I will try to get a reply out asap, but did anyone weigh in on our next action? Do we want an escort or do we go it alone?

Dev Vorn |

Same here!! Awesome encounter!!

Opening a device with thorium powder and explosives inside is usually contraindicated for long term survival. :P
Of course, maybe it didn't have that stuff in it... but maybe it did... did you really want to find out?

mdt |

Poke? We have some people not posting :
Alison
Warren
Tam
Even if I don't specifically call you out for something, that doesn't mean you don't post. You can post doing something. This is the first major trade port you've been at in decades...

When looking at the table, there is two tables. One is labeled 'Readily Available Goods' and lists a DM. That is the DM added when trying to Purchase (Purchase DM) at the destination. That is, it's telling you what is most likely to be for sale at the destination.
For example, on the current Trade Preview for Tufae
Basic Consumables 3
Basic Raw Materials 3
Biochemicals 1
Live Animals 2
Luxury Consumables 2
Radioactives 3
Textiles 7
Uncommon Raw Materials 2
Wood 6
From looking at this, at Tufae, it is very easy to find and buy Textiles and Raw Woods, which means you'll probably get good deals on those. Everything else will be somewhat cheaper than normal, but not likely to have super deals (it's still random though, so there's always a chance to get a good deal).
The second table is the 'Desired Goods' table, which has information about Selling at the destination (Sale DM).
Basic Machine Parts 2
Electronics 1
Petrochemicals 2
Pharmaceuticals 1
Robots 2
As we can see, Tufae doesn't have any strong 'desires'.
So, the DM's vary depending on which table they are on. In general, things on the 'Readily Available' table will be for sale, and the price will cheaper for higher DM stuff. In general, things on the 'Desired Goods' table will fetch higher prices than stuff not there, and almost certainly more than the 'Readily Available' stuff.
But there's a lot of randomness in it (Rolling a 2 or a 12 on the check can totally overwhelm all but the highest DMs). I take it that the cargo hold unfortunately has mostly things that won't sell well here? That's entirely possible with randomness (thus the 'speculative cargo' being risky thing).

mdt |

Yeah, if you look at the Desired Goods table, you can see what the modified roll was. For example, I think you have Slug Weapons. The modified roll for those was 5, resulting in a horrible price. Your residential appliances should sell well.

Sorry if I'm kind of hit or miss this week. Had a holiday, had sleeping issues over it, got RIF'd first thing Tuesday morning, wife is out of town at a funeral, and finally realized how much I'd grown to hate my job when I felt relief at getting RIF'd rather than being upset. So in a weird place.

Jenni "Glitch" Everson |

I understand the hating your job part. For me, it wasn't hating where I work, but rather hating what I did. When they let me go because of certain issues (I have severe depression and essentially they were concerned about a possible "incident"), it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

mdt |

It wasn't where I worked, I liked everyone. It was what I was doing the last year (fixing other people's code) rather than going out and doing projects where I'm building new customizations.

mdt |

I'm going to have to officially call Tam lost at this point. The player hasn't posted to any of their games since April 27th. I hate it when that happens, I always assume the worst when there's an abrupt loss of posting. :(
May have also lost our new player (Alison), no posts since the 15th. *sigh* Well, it's a good place to lose them I guess, and both are non-Imperials.

mdt |

Question for the group, how much do you want to play out the 2 months of down time on Annasa, and the 6 months trip back to Imperial space? Most of that 2 months will be training to bring your skills up to date, but the 6 months you can train new skills.
Annasa is TL 12, and the Impire is TL 13 now. You can find some TL 13 stuff on Annasa if you want to search for it, but it'll take up retraining time. Up to you guys though.
Anyway, I figure we can do one of the following :
1) Back to Imperial space in 1 big post.
2) Spend a week (real time) on Annasa, week (real time) on the Ship, then Imperial.
3) Play out each week and take however long it takes.
Thoughts? Feelings?

Moyasmedsev |

It depends on how you want our story to unfold, GM. If the story is about traders who pick up the occasional adventure as they wend their way through space, The Ruler of Five is at least as good a location for that as the big, static Imperium.
If the story is going to happen in the Imperium and this is just the journey to get to the story, then start where the story is (with a monumental increase in our wallet size to account for Moyasmedsev's shrewd way with speculative cargo, of course.)

Dev Vorn |

Skip it and move us into the Imperium. Maybe a bit of RP here, but I would rather be in Imperium space (where my character might be able to gain a number of resources back since our ship was taken from us)
