The other option is to mount it to the outside of the ship, and loose 100 tons of cargo. But that will increase astrogation rolls by one level.

Darrian 7C7BE5

I’m fine with either option.

Droyne (Sport) 6979C-

My ship is a luggage rack! :-)

Dev Vorn - 9769B5 - Captain - Alell (Regina Subsector, Spinward Marches 1706)- Character Pic

I am afraid that Dev will get everyone in trouble if he ventures out, so he will just ride out the next few weeks snooping about the 'new' scout ship they have.

Imperial Human F32 (32) I 4A8AD4 (Current: 4A8AD4)

I'm good with advancing time, if everyone else is, or I can always find something to get into. Heh heh.

Darrian 7C7BE5

I ve got nothing pressing to do here. I'm fine advancing time.

Just a note to the players, the GM can't advance the story unless the Players post and discuss and make decisions.

I've seen this before in games, everyone is wanting to not be the pushy player and then nobody ends up making a decision or pushing the game.

If you can't push the game forward as a group, I won't railroad you. I've moved you to the point where you're ready to go, I've given you a general motiviation (getting back to the imperium to sell your loot). After that is resolved, I can give you more plot options, but you have to actually talk to each other and make decisions on how you want to get to the next plot branch point. I can't do that for you.

Currently your options are :

1) Ignore the GM's planned plot and stay in the Vargr Extents and try to get work/etc.
2) Hire some crew to work both ships, and start working your way to the nearest Sector Capital.
2a) Skeleton crew both ships for one jump to the nearby high-population system and hire crew there.
2b) See if any of the people being woken up want to hire on as crew to work their way back to the Imperium.
3) Mate the scout ship to the Phoenix, reduce cargo capacity, and move forward as one over-sized ship. (Will require the Military base to do the mating harness, which will cost a 100,000 to 200,000 credits).

Droyne (Sport) 6979C-

I’m for a combination of 2b and 3. I’m not trying to advance the plot for two reasons:

1) The idea of a return to Ley Sector probably isn’t going to come from Moyasmedsev, a native of the Extents.

2) I’m waiting for the humans to hear the other shoe dropping.

Note : Of the 60+ meths who survived the cold sleep, about 30 applied to go on your ships. However, only the 6 people I listed had useful skills to you. The rest were things like secretaries, teachers, farmers, children, psychologists, and so on. I assume you didn't want anyone without useful skills. If you want me to put up people who would have been 'winno'd out' I can, just let me know.

Bestbot/Darrian 8G5D76/8G5975

EAVE would suggest we take anyone directly tied to someone that we pick, assuming they desire that.

How many crew do we need for both ships to not be 'skeletons'?

Male Human

Durning the downtime I would like to do some training for Recon 0. If I understand correctly my current total skill is 9 and for a 0 skill that means it takes 9 weeks to learn something new. Just to give an idea I'd currently like to learn recon and some sort of pistol at 0 so I lose the minus 3 from there I'll work on my known skills though that will take time to train up. I might try and pick up some sort of "ship" skill at 0 as well unless my engineering is good enough or you all think I'm fine as Bones.

Warren, you are correct. And you'd have gotten 3 weeks of training toward your 9 weeks. Gun Combat is your next one if you want to use a pistol.

Dev Vorn - 9769B5 - Captain - Alell (Regina Subsector, Spinward Marches 1706)- Character Pic

Could Dev train to learn the Vargr language? It might come in handy since we are going to be in their space for quite some time.

Droyne (Sport) 6979C-

And no one's favorite droyne is going learn Anglic!

Yep, he can. Especially if you take the Vargr recruit.

Learning Language at 0 gives you the ability to basically ask 'where is the bathroom' and 'where is the Imperial Consulate' in multiple languages. Learning it at 1 gives you the specialty in a new language. You are assumed to speak your native language with a default of your Int Mod as your skill level. Dev will need 20 weeks to learn Language at 0, and another 20 to learn Vargr at 1.

Moyas needs 9 weeks to learn Language 0, and another 9 to learn Language (anglic) at 1.

Droyne (Sport) 6979C-

Slowpoke!

LOL Teacher's Pet!!!

Dev Vorn - 9769B5 - Captain - Alell (Regina Subsector, Spinward Marches 1706)- Character Pic

Dev will teach Moya Anglic while the Vargr recruit teaches Dev Vargr...and I will just draw out his training so it is 20 weeks for both...lol

Bestbot/Darrian 8G5D76/8G5975

And how does EAVE's training work? :O

Darrian 7C7BE5

Are there any glaring holes in our skills that Tam should train in? Otherwise I'm thinking Astrogation.

EAVE spends 10 weeks per skill level, flat, to improve an existing skill program. However, it can purchase pre-generated skills of any level and upload them if it has enough memory. If trying to build a new skill from scratch, it takes double the normal time (20 weeks). However, both brains can work on a different new/improved skill simultaneously.

Imperial Human F32 (32) I 4A8AD4 (Current: 4A8AD4)

Jenni is eyeing improving her engineering skill.

Male Human

I see a couple of the applicants with pilot and astrogation skills but no one with medic skills. We've a few with engineering but none of the applicants specifically say they have engineering skills just ship skills. Do any of the applicants have either? I'm the only one with medic skills.

Droyne (Sport) 6979C-

Player to players: Do we wish to continue with two ships? It's a bit clunky.

GM Note : The Phoenix is not 100%, so a 100% backup is advised (and why I advised Moyas) to keep it if he rolled it. You'll have more options once you get to the Imperium and sell your cargo.

Just giving all players all information to make an informed decision.

Droyne (Sport) 6979C-

Good to know!

Darrian 7C7BE5

It is clunky but probably necessary for now.

Imperial Human F32 (32) I 4A8AD4 (Current: 4A8AD4)

Agreed. I think that we can make it work, with the additional crew.

Bestbot/Darrian 8G5D76/8G5975

Kitty... I'm really sorry to say. But, I don't think I like traveler as a system very much. I've enjoyed rumbling around as EAVE getting up to mischief as expected, but all of the systems and how things work just feel sort of draining to me. The story you've put forth has been fun and interesting, and I've enjoyed being a part of them.

I've also been finding the more I try to get into sci-fi style games, the less drive and passion I actually have for them. I definitely enjoy shenanigans, and I enjoy the strange aspects, but I have a really hard time building up any real drive to post or interact or the like. I don't think that's on you, but rather, a substantial lack of experience in the genre on my part.

Would it be any trouble for you if I stepped out?

No, if you want to step out, you can. I'll be sorry to see you go. I never want any one to stay if they don't want to stay. I'll recruit a replacement soon then.

Bestbot/Darrian 8G5D76/8G5975

Alrighty, Kitty! I still super-enjoy games with you, just sci-fi seems to not really be my jam :(

Thanks for the story! :)

Bestbot/Darrian 8G5D76/8G5975

Also, you can continue using EAVE if you like, or murder her, or ship her off, or have her decide to go a different direction to get launched home, or... something! Just that you can do what you like with her.

Also, thanks a lot for always remembering to have the bots sing for people, it always made my day to read that. :)

Droyne (Sport) 6979C-

Was it something I said? :-)

Sorry to see you go. Hope you play something you enjoy!

Bestbot/Darrian 8G5D76/8G5975

Honestly? A little, yeah! Don't at all feel bad for that, though. You came in, being a great player who's super enthusiastic and has a clear passion for the genre. And the game needs and deserves players like that. :). I don't think I can give that!

I think the difference falls into fiction versus fantasy. The more simulationist something gets, the less into it I become. This probably reflects a little poorly on me as a player, but I feel that I'm not very good at sandbox games, and need a bit of railroad as a player. I mostly roleplay for story directly, and while I feel you can do both, and do both well, that I am horrible at contributing to that sort of environment. If that makes sense.

So, I think the players (and probably dm) are better served by having other players who are passionate and responsive and driven in a way I'm finding hard to be! I don't think there's anything wrong with the players, the game, or even myself, just that it isn't a good fit for me. :). And I'm glad to have experienced it, all the same. :)

Droyne (Sport) 6979C-

Well for what it’s worth, I really liked the idea of EAVE. I was hoping we two “weirdos” would become testy best friends, a la The Odd Couple.

But yeah, sometimes a game or a system just doesn’t cement your interest. I’ve left a few perfectly good games myself. As far as Sci-fi vs. Fantasy goes, I think of myself as primarily a fantasy gamer even though I read mostly sci-fi because there’s simply so few fantasy novels I don’t hate. I mean, you have to wade through SO much badness t with fantasy that your odds are simply better with sci-fi.

Honestly every sci-fi game I’ve ever played in has ended abruptly a few weeks in, so I’m eager to play ANY sci-if that isn’t just a bug hunt.

Fantasy gaming can be very sandboxy, too, of course. Try GMing a game of Amber Diceless, where every PC has the power to pop about through the multiverse at will. Talk about splitting the party! But yes, especially in a PBP format, it can be difficult to play in a sandbox game unless there is a LOT of role-playing.

Last thought: I don’t think there is a definitive sci-if game, though I do think Mongoose Traveller comes closest. But for me, the Third Imperium is one of the best sci-fi settings around. I’m also very fond of the post-Imperial “New Era” as a setting.

Bestbot/Darrian 8G5D76/8G5975

That's one of the things for me with Urban fantasy. I just don't think I've ever read an Urban fantasy novel I didn't enjoy. Fantasy has been really hit and miss. It doesn't help that I'm not a fan of the Lord of the rings (I love the Hobbit, though!), which means that a lot of the genre has a lot of things that don't interest or inspire me (or even that I find tedious - like names I can't pronounce).

As for EAVE and moya becoming friends... Maybe they still will. :P. Mdt can probably pull the character off every bit as well as I did. :)

Darrian 7C7BE5

Good luck! Really enjoyed EAVE, you will be missed.

Doubtful EAVE, I really hate taking over former PCs. I'll probably have it sneak off to head back to Darrian space by sneaking on freighters headed in the direction of that space.

On a different note, I now have access to the MG 2nd Edition books. I'm going to slowly switch us over to 2nd edition. This should be mostly seamless from your perspective, it'll mostly mean using 2nd ed to roll up NPCs and new PCs. It'll also mean a few tweaks to your characters eventually, but it shouldn't make much difference, only around skill names. When you reach the Imperium, the ships will switch over, since you'll be either rebuilding or buying a new ship at that point, so it makes sense to switch the ship stats at that point.

Imperial Human F32 (32) I 4A8AD4 (Current: 4A8AD4)

Fare thee well, Eave. I thought that you made an interesting addition to our little band, but if you aren't feeling the game, then you shouldn't try to force it on yourself.

Regarding 2E, I have no issue with that. Been using it for some time now.

Imperial Human F32 (32) I 4A8AD4 (Current: 4A8AD4)

FWIW, I'm really enjoying the game. I'm in two Traveller games on here right now, and both are quite enjoyable. I had almost gotten burned out on it because of my own group (we had a game going, but there were some... issues... on both the part of the players and myself). I'm glad to be a part of both of these, though.

Dev Vorn - 9769B5 - Captain - Alell (Regina Subsector, Spinward Marches 1706)- Character Pic

Sorry to see you go EAVE, but I understand how you feel..it has happened to me on occasion. Hope we play together again!

And adding to Jenni's comment...I too am really enjoying this game! I know I have not been posting too much lately, and I hope to change that, but I am having a great time playing on this adventure!!

Bestbot/Darrian 8G5D76/8G5975

:) Thank you, everyone! Have fun! :)

Note, my apologies, I forgot you were doing Jump 2's instead of Jump 4's when calculating the Difficulties. In the game I'm playing in, we have jump 4, and so the default DC of jumping to a known system is 8 (4 + 4 for distance).

Doing jump 2, you guys should be at :

Kektys : 4 + 2 (Distance) + 2 (Match Phoenix) = 8
Phoenix : 4 + 2 (Distance) + 2 (sub-par ship) = 8

Sorry about that. Remind me going forward of that.

I think we're waiting for Moyas to make a Naval Tactics check.

Imperial Human F32 (32) I 4A8AD4 (Current: 4A8AD4)

We have a decision to make, folks. Either we fight or run, but the longer we sit here, the more impatient they are going to get. My vote is to bring them onboard and fight them man-to-man (as it were). I honestly don't think that we can outrun them, and I doubt we can match them in ship-to-ship combat.

Well, Fight, Run, or Negotiate. But sitting there silently isn't going to end well for anyone.

Darrian 7C7BE5

I vote negotiate.

Also, I am going on a quick camping trip with the family and will be back Sunday evening.

Dev Vorn - 9769B5 - Captain - Alell (Regina Subsector, Spinward Marches 1706)- Character Pic

We could try to run, but I am afraid that we might lose one of the ships...so that leave negotiate and maybe fight once they are here if they ask for too much...then run..lol Sorry, not much of an answer....

Imperial Human F32 (32) I 4A8AD4 (Current: 4A8AD4)

Who's the captain, here? I would say that the final decision is theirs. It may be just easier to surrender and let them take what they want, though that will irk Jenni considerably.
