Sorry all, my mother was rear ended this afternoon by some idiot in a cargo truck while she was stopped on a 2-lane highway to make a left turn. He was going about 60mph (about 95-100kph for our European friends). She's ok, but they're keeping her in ICU for a day or two due to her age and a head wound that they don't think is serious beyond some scarring. Just got back from the ICU after they got her situated. I'll try to get a post up tomorrow sometime.
This is complicated by my work not letting me post from work (Paizo is blocked).

Oof. When it rains, it pours I guess. Seems like it could have been much worse though, so I'm glad it seems to have turned out okay.

Wow! Thankful your mother is all right, mdt.
I don't like how they are designing cars/SUVs today. Like tissue paper, no real metal bracing in the frame.

This is actually a safety feature. Cars these days are DESIGNED to crumple, because it eats force from the impact that would otherwise be transferred to the passengers.
It makes physical injury less common and severe, but as a result makes the damage to the car a hell of a lot worse.
This is a more than fair trade-off IMO.
mdt |
Agreed, although they are not designed to crumple to the point the back bumper is in the middle of the back seat. It's just that they can only do so much, and when one of these things is going 50+MPH while fully loaded with metal, there's not much the car can do.
I just found out from the police report that it basically sent her SUV hurtling across two lanes of oncoming traffic and off the opposite shoulder. It's a second miracle that none of the oncoming traffic hit her head on as she bounced off the truck's bumper.
Needless to say, the driver of the truck and his assistant were completely unharmed, and the truck suffered only minor damage, mostly cosmetic.
Note, the picture link above is a generic version of a Kenworth 300 series, not the specific company that hit her.

Pazio.com is being kind of funky - twice now I've posted, only to have the post disappear. I'm having to save to a text file before I post, just to save my words and not have to rewrite them.
Here I was hoping we'd fly to Durchmirde.

I am posting this to all of my games, so apologies if you see this multiple times:
Unfortunately, I have some bad news.
A combination of work-related stuff has lead to me having to take some time off from the forums. I am, in all honesty, going to need to be gone for several months, as I am going to be travelling for extended periods of time (weeks or more) and I'll likely not have good access to the internet.
As I am not someone who would want to have you all sit and wait for me here, I am going to be withdrawing/closing all of my open forum games.
I want to thank everyone who I have had the pleasure to game with over the last couple of years here, as I have immensely enjoyed my time on the forums, and hopefully, once my work stabilizes, I will be able to rejoin the community.
Thank you again for your time and energy, and I am sorry that I won't be able to keep things moving forward in any of the games that I am running.
Connor of McIntyre |
Sorry to hear that, Telv/Vrog. Hope that you get to return soon.
Vim tel'Gossamer |
Good luck taking care of your things, Vrog. Been fun playiung with you here and elsewhere. Cheers, and hope to see you soon.
Vim tel'Gossamer |
Hey mdt, sorry to hear about your mom's friend. That's really rough. Hope you and her are doing okay.
Connor of McIntyre |
My neighbor decided to drop an oak tree across the gravel road in our cul-de-sac, and I've spent the last two days cutting it up. Getting the trunk off of the newly-poured gravel (honest; it was just last week) only took 3 hours, but cutting up the thickest branches and wood into fireplace-sized chunks took yesterday and today. And two chainsaw chains. I've got an elderly friend in town who uses a wood furnace to heat his house, so this is charity work for me.
Will post tomorrow.
Vim tel'Gossamer |
Connor, am I crazy, or do you end up cutting up a lot of trees?
Flann Swallowtail |
The man with a bucket runeth the well.
Connor of McIntyre |
Up until my neighbor remarried and the new husband bought a chainsaw last week and felled said tree, I was the only person in my neighborhood with a chainsaw. Hurricane Michael (Sep 2018) dropped about six trees among me and two other neighbors. My ash tree (60 ft tall) took me about 3 weeks. My apple tree that went from 0-degrees to 40-degree tilt is a "when I get around to it" progress work. The neighbors' trees took about two weeks, but I just finished the fifth burn pile for the twigs. Then the new hubby for my neighbor decides he wants to clear out the back acreage with about 40 oak, pine, cape myrtle, and scrub trees.
I like to call it "chainsaw therapy". There ain't nothin' like the feel of a brand-new chainsaw chain for the first 30 minutes.

Just another example of the reason I don't have energy or time to post in my games :
Need new desk/furniture for office on new job, requires two laptops in use simultaneously. I have 3 monitors, so just need realestate to put them on.
Go to Office Depot, pick out new L desk and hutch, new office chair. Clear out space old work station was in.
Arrange for someone to be home all day to accept delivery, as I have to drive 100 miles for work to meet with client. Get back at 3PM, no desk.
8PM, 30 minutes after window for delivery closes, call store, store says 'it was already delivered'. Explain in small easy to understand words that desk was not delivered. Go check bushes by road in case they dumped it out. No boxes, no desk.
Next day, 10AM, call store, no word, nobody working on it. Yell at manager. Finally people start looking into it.
2PM, no word from store, truck finally shows up, old man and old woman unload very heavy boxes. Make me feel bad, they are in their 50's. I can't help much (tore up my back years ago, can't afford to re-injure it). Call store, they have no idea it's been delivered, still looking for it.
Open boxes, every piece of wood in hutch box broken in half, all the way through, like someone snapped it between their fingers. Call store, yell at manager, send manager pictures of broken boards.
Start putting desk together, nearly tear my back apart putting it together (even pieces are heavy). Call store, store says they will send new hutch. I ask for delivery date, they say February 7th. I say no good, they can't deliver it that day, I have a funeral to attend (my mother's auto accident passenger died in the hospital :( :( ). Store idiot swears it will be the 8th, he's changed it.
Monday, get e-mail, being delivered the 7th. Call Office Depot 800 number, talk to new idiot, apologizes, says he's changing delivery to 8th.
Today, get e-mail, still being delivered on the 7th. Call Office Depot 800 number, talk to another new idiot. She tells me I've been refunded for the desk, and someone will be by to pick it up, and I've been charged twice for the hutch. I tell her I have not been refunded, and the hutch can't arrive on the 7th. She says can't change it, just put note on door, if not delivered 7th, they'll try one more time on 8th, then send it back. I say that's no good, because if something comes up on the 8th, I have no safety net now, and I wanted it delivered the 8th. She says put note on door, refuses to change delivery date.
I hang up on idiot #3, check credit card statement, no refund, no second charge. Now I have to call the store and scream at the manager again.
Resolution : Never, ever, ever, buy from Office Depot again.
Connor of McIntyre |
Wow, my sympathies, mdt. I go to Lowe's Home Improvement because they were in my area first over Home Depot. But I have a truck so I can move stuff myself (yes, I've hurt myself doing that too. Getting older.). Another reason to stay away from Home Depot.
mdt |
I have the desk, but the hutch that sits on top of it is broken in half. I finally got through to someone who claims not to be an Idiot, and promised it would not arrive before the 8th.
Vim tel'Gossamer |
Oooof, mdt, that is an awful experience. Sorry that happened to you.
Flann Swallowtail |
I'm trying to figure a good use of money.
A second supercontainer comes to mind. I'm still reading through things to get an idea of what could help.
Last night I couldn't get the first Critical Role campaign out of my head. The one with the mind flayers? As well as the one book series I've read: War of the Spider Queen.
I won't be disappointed if we don't meet mind flayers, but I'll be super excited if we do.

Connor with his 21 INT will run screaming from any mind flayers.
As for a "supercontainer", do you mean extradimensional storage? I've been using a templated character equipment list now for years for all my characters. It's more for magic than psionics, but the Excel spreadsheets remind me about storage, living, writing, crafting, etc.
For instance: yes, Bags of Holding/Storage are nice, but don't do much for liquids. Hence the clay jugs (3 or more), plus the Collapsible Bathtub (Ult.Equip.) (15 gp, 20 lbs.). Just in case mdt pulls another dungeon full of magic freezing water. ;) One campaign, I even made Buckets of Holding. When the decanter of endless water simply cannot be found/crafted.
Flann Swallowtail |
Yeah, I just noticed last time we had to do a lot of passing around of the bag, and other than the bag itself, it seemed to be mostly mundane items.
Connor of McIntyre |
As long as Connor doesn't have to carry someone again. :)
Flann Swallowtail |
Something like Shapesand would be a neat and non-magical alternative, but I don't think it's in Pathfinder.
Vim tel'Gossamer |
I was thinking glue and universal solvent, maybe? Or just like, a deck of cards and some snacks.
Connor of McIntyre |
That's a valid question, actually. Who among us does not have sustenance, cannot access it through touch telepathy or networking? Tattoos of sustenance cost 150 gp of materials to make for just 1 day, so it's more cost-effective to buy a bag of storage and fill it with trail rations and jugs of water. Remember, Atalantians are anti-magic, so a ring of sustenance is not a solution.
Adraniel |
I have always assumed we have food and stuff on the boat, that and the food/meals we get from NPC's and then rations and food we find.
Vim tel'Gossamer |
Not to pressure Flann, but Sustenance gains the Network descriptor for Vitalists, so Flann can use the power and Target an additional person in the collective for 1 pp when he manifests it. That should cover the non-manifesters and people without it on their list in a pinch.
Flann Swallowtail |
Yeah, Flann's been living off of his own willpower for decades. (That's why he's never eating food, and drinks out of his own flask. That and family paranoia.) Connor just forgot since the last time we were locked underground for 25 years, and now that I've got the equipment to get everyone on network, food is a non-issue.
In fact, Flann has a special mask, and a mythic trait for skill rolls which means he should be able to share and manifest any Personal powers any of you have. (IIRC / FYI / BYOB / ROFLMFAO)
Connor of McIntyre |
Yes, I forgot. Thanks, Flann. I'm always worried about what I call the "Big Three":
1.) food & water
2.) extradimensional storage
3.) longevity
So we're covered on #1 and most of #2. Being Mythic can cover #3, eventually.
Vim tel'Gossamer |
Okay, so probably no "gear" gear then. Especially if we're going as merchants trying to open trade routes, that's probably fine. I'm ready, then.
mdt |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
For those who havent' gotten them all already, you can get your library for about $18 via the humble bundle.

RE: Connor's crafting suggestion
I do keep a nice wishlist on my Google Doc (linked from my char page) but I won't be able to afford anything for a while, even with a generous disbursement from the Elephant, though I did grab a pair of gloves just in case back before we left home.
Connor of McIntyre |
Interesting! What did you want to make the gloves into?
Vim tel'Gossamer |
Interesting! What did you want to make the gloves into?
Probably either Gloves of Titan's Grip, or Inescapable Gloves, or Mantis Embrace. Keeping my options open!

Hey all that time of year again. Gulf Wars (Large SCA event in Mississippi) Starts Saturday. I leave on Wednesday. I will be gone until the 18th. Please bot me as needed. I should be posting the next 2 days but not as often as usual due to the crunch of getting last minute work done before leaving. Thank you.

She would not exactly know she's a Drow. She's not really. She's basically a mutation caused by the magical storm the island was involved with. Elves and Drow, in this world, originated from the same two gods (One drow, one elvish) and literally share the same blood at their founding. At one time, it would have not been unusual for a pair of Elves to have a Drow offspring, but after tens of thousands of years of living separated that no longer occurs except as one in a billion chance (unless something outside changes that, like raw magic storms or radiation). The islanders know of Drow, but don't really understand them to be a different species or culture unless they've actually spent time with them, they just consider them 'elves with dark skin'.
Kotsi would know that she's an elvavian with dark skin, but wouldn't consider herself a Drow with wings.

Connor, if you only go back to your last level and ditch Correspondence (temporarily of course-- maybe drop a report out tonight just to be safe), that should let you skip the penalties, right?
Connor of McIntyre |
Technically you're right, there's nothing in the rules that state "you must choose a 4th Level power if you have a 4th Level slot". It'd be easier than going back five levels to change a 1st-level power. Psychic reformation has some weird text to prevent choosing a 2nd-level slot with a 4th-level power (I believe this applies with Expanded Knowledge, so you do have to be careful to not lose a slot).
But I think it goes against the feel of the system. 1st-level powers should go in 1st-level slots. Expanded Knowledge, a few other feats let you get more powers, but they are specific to lower-level slots. Connor would be treated as 3rd Level for 24 hours to change a 1st-level power. Harsh, I know. I don't have to use psychic reformation to get the power! I can use the Emphatic Monocle instead, but that's one/day.
Storm Dragon |
It's not just not disallowed, it's explicitly allowed in the base ruleset of the game. A Sorcerer for example can choose another 3rd level spell when he would gain a 4th, and you can use higher level spell slots to cast any lower level spell you know as a Spontaneous caster, and Prepared casters can prepare lower level spells in higher level slots (for no extra benefit unless they're Metamagic'd up).
Psionics is no different.

My interpretation was the same. Hence the leveling table increases your Max Power Level Known & number of powers known, instead of giving you level-specific slots.
Connor of McIntyre |
All right, me being traditional doesn't advance the game. I should make more power stones of all these possible powers.
