Welcome to the recruitment page for Destiny’s Call. and the path of the (Warrior.)
This recruitment is for a sandbox style pathfinder campaign that will be set in the world of Golarion. Ultimately, I have prepared multiple modules, scenarios, and adventures with different storyline hooks that will surface within the campaign in order to allow (you) the player to choose which adventure you will participate in. This is intended to create a nonlinear experience where the (PC) group can affect the dynamic of the world they live in by choosing their own path. That being said, this link is specifically for the role of the Warrior . If you choose to submit a character on this thread, please do so knowing that the character is meant to fill that role. Ultimately, the character should be developed as a heavily armed and (or) armored martial character with the mindset of being on the front line. Only (1) character from this category will be accepted with 2 others selected as alternates. Only one charter submission per category will be allowed. Multiple character submissions within a single category will result in disqualification. Only characters with complete profiles will be considered.
Other strong considerations for selection include a robust background, which is completely open to the player, a solid personality concept, and a strong visual description.
Content: I am open to virtually all Paizo content as long as the character makes sense and the background strongly supports the choices made by the player. Preferably, no third party content.
Expectations: I intend to review the game daily and expect that players will do the same. That being said, if someone is going to be absent, one of three things will happen. 1) The game will be placed on hold for a short break. 2) The character will be botted. 3) The character will be shadowed. This campaign is intended to be a long running campaign with a strong focus on depth and detail. I realize that sometimes too much detail can stagnate a game, but I feel confident that I can apply momentum when necessary.
Role play: Within the realm of role play, it is sometimes difficult to embrace a unique personality concept without stepping on other people’s toes. Ultimately, I intend this campaign to be approached with an adult mind set. On the other hand, I have little tolerance for someone who is set upon ruining the game for others. Simply put, don’t be a tool! If a players personality concept, role play, or posts become inappropriate, I will PM the player with the hopes that an adjustment can be made. If the problem persists, the player will be asked to leave.
Timeline: Cutoff date for submissions will be on All Hallows Eve (October 31st). After which I will make a selection and post in this thread as well as PM the player with a link to the game.
2nd addition Pathfinder: Upon the release of 2nd addition pathfinder, I will be tabling the option of converting the campaign over. That means if 2nd addition is any good and the group decides they would enjoy the new content, than I am willing to consider the possibility of conversion.
Maps] I will be using google for map content and icon display.
Stats: Use the (20) point buy with no stat lower than an 8 before racial adjustments.
Races: All pathfinder base races, which include Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Half-elf, Halfling, Half-orc, and Human, are acceptable.
Other races: Other races, which will include Aasimar, Catfolk, Fetchling, Ifrit, Oread, Ratfolk, Sylph Tengu, Tiefling, and Undine will be considered with a Strong and well put together background. Note: These races will be considered very unique in my game. As such, reactions of npc’s and other players could make replaying these races extremely difficult.
Racial traits: Are acceptable as long as they are not third party.
Starting Wealth All characters will begin play with a flat (200 GP).
Traits: Because the campaign path is undeclared, no background traits will be included. Two non-background traits are acceptable with a third trait (optional) upon the selection of a drawback.
Background skills: Background skills are acceptable and encouraged as long as they fall in line with the characters background.
Quick reference items: The (Race) category within the characters profile should list | HP | AC | Intuitive | Perception | Speed | CMB | CMD | Saving throws|. The Class/levels line should include | Primary weapon stats | Spell availability.
Knowledge, Item identification, and appraise: I personally believe these skills belong independently to the character that has vested points into advancing them. That being the case, I intend to pass information onto the player through (PM) whenever possible and allow them to decide how much of their skill they wish to share with the group. (Optional) A player may state up front that they intend to share everything with the group. In this case I will post via spoiler any information that is not time sensitive. Other information, such as creature identification, will be specifically passed on as a (PM)
Combat Communication: While in combat, I will allow a single brief statement (one sentence or less) to be posted out of turn without affecting a character’s economy. This will allow some creature identification information to be passed on during critical combat moments. Alternatively: A player may forgo a move action and state whatever they like.

Dot. The method of recruitment presented was incredibly intriguing. I would like to ask about Combat Stamina from Pathfinder Unchained, namely if you are using it and if you are using the Fighter options it presents.
Unchained characters are welcome, but I don't intend to use the stamina combat option.
To elaborate a little more on the subject of the unusual recruitment. I felt that asking players to completely create a character, with a full background, for a game that wasn't guaranteed was asking a lot. So I decided to put more effort into the recruitment process. I was hoping that a couple things would come out of the effort. First, I am hoping that I attract players that enjoy a little extra depth in a game. I feel that type of player would be willing to read through the links to get to the recruitment page. Second, It serves as an example of what kind of detail I intend to make available throughout the campaign.
In addition to detail, I am working on multiple pathfinder modules, PFS scenarios, and a few converted content options such as old school dungeons & dragons, etc. for storyline content. I look forward to reviewing your rogue.

Presenting Berta Lighthammer (nee Far-Spear)!
Crunch should be accurate (I originally made her as a PFS character but never got around to putting her in a game) but a double-check would not go amiss. I will update her taglines shortly.
EDIT: Updated taglines. This is Apoc Golem, by the way; I have one entry in (Undecided) as well (Rogan J. Grath).

Really cool recruitment, everything is in the profile. Thanks for the consideration.
I have reviewed this character and by its merits alone I can tell that the player (Ash) has a strong understanding of the game and its mechanics. The character concept is solid and strong. The background is well put together and rich is in both knowledge of the Rokugani Empire (AKA: The Emerald Land) as well as Kakita's personal history. That being said, I have a few questions in regards to the character's connection to the Golarion world and her intended class progression.
1) From what I can tell, I don’t believe that the Rokugani Empire is a thing in pathfinder history. If I am incorrect on this please correct me and reference the material that I am missing. As I am not opposed to this very flavorful history, I am a little curious on the character’s intended Golarion roots. I am pretty sure your intended history takes place somewhere in Tian Xia, but without something clearly spelling that out, I am hesitant to conclude this. That is, if there isn’t something already in print that I am missing, I am willing to entertain the history with a tie to the world of Golarion. For example, the spine of the world pass (AKA Beiden Pass) could be referring to a trade rout that exists through the Wall of Heavens, which separates Tian Xia from the Inner Sea. Presumably, if the rout is a land based rout to trade with Avistain, it would probably exist through the Crown of the World. Over all, its an interesting background. Apologies in advance if I am missing something. I had to take a crash course in Rokugani history (LoL).
2) I would also like to know if Kakita intends to pursue advancement in Servants of the Sacred Hymn.

Very much like your healer, I enjoyed reading Berta’s backstory. It seems you have a talent for creative history. After reviewing Berta, I determined that she looks solid and is a good candidate. It’s good to have a couple solid options for selection. It’s an interesting twist to have a dwarf with a Shoanti past.

Thanks! I like playing quirky characters. Also I'm a writer, so I tend to go ham on the backstories. I actually usually write a short story first, then cobble together a sort of "synopsis" about the character based on how the short story goes. I did that ages ago with Rogan, but Dellan and Berta are the first time I made character backgrounds *without* doing the short story first. I'm glad they turned out okay.

Quick question. In reviewing your background, it states you are heading out to make the trip your parents perished trying to make. Am I correct in assuming that this trip is from Janderhoff to Kaer Maga, which would likely be with a Dwarven trade caravan? Or are you heading directly from the Cenderlands to Kaer Maga, which would likely be alone or with a Shoanti trade party?

Honestly it was mostly fluff there. Berta can be heading toward wherever you need her to be going to get the party together. She's a pretty free spirit at this point. If that doesn't necessarily matter, she will likely be traveling with a caravan (any caravan, doesn't have to be dwarven) to Kaer Maga to seek her destiny there.

I like to get a handle on the submitted character's full concept. That includes the yummy fluff. YUM...

Havocprince |

Two questions, I have a distinct Idea for this... well two distinct Ideas for this really, but I need to know two things before I submit.
First, I am an observant jew and so will not be on Saturdays, will that be ok since this game is time intensive? I do no wish to bog other people down if it is going to be an issue.
Second, I have an idea for an ostensibly evil character, one that may well have to work with the heroes but does not do it for the reasons that they do. Would this be an acceptable character to build around? Well within the don't be a tool tolerance level, but decidedly not what most heroes are. Otherwise I am more than happy to build a neutral or good character.

If your submission is selected, the Saturday off would be ok by me.
An ostensibly evil character. Making sure I understand this correctly. “Ostensibly” meaning (apparently or purportedly, but perhaps not actually). So, playing a perceived evil character Sunday through Monday and then asking for forgiveness on Saturday? (LoL)
Well, back to the ostensibly thing. Is your intention to play a non-evil character that has a bad reputation? Possibly someone who is misunderstood, or someone who appears to be good aligned and has evil intentions?
If the concept is to create a character that is not evil, but carries himself in a way that people generally perceive him to be evil, then I don’t see a problem with that. The success of this type of character would be measured mostly by role-play. It could also be reflected in the character’s background, which would surly impact the character in a large way.
On the other hand. If your intention is to create an evil character who is pretending to be good. The answer would then be no. For a number of reason, I am holding to the above alignment limits of no evil.

GM Nightfiend |

Yes, exactly. I'm looking to build a character who has a vicious reputation, a LN character that most people will treat the same way they treat an evil character. One that doesn't worry about getting their hands dirty. Let the peasants die if saving them would get in the way of his mission type.
I don't see a problem with this. I look forward to reviewing the character.

I am equal parts grossed out and nodding in enthusiastic unison. I can't wait for this game. :D

I've decided to create a few more characters for the different roles, as a fun thought experiment if nothing else. Here's my submission for a warrior character: Fiona Porphyria (a.ka. Lacuna), a masked maiden vigilante. I realize her personality might be close to what Havocprince is going for, but she's not quite as cavalier about sacrificing innocent lives. She only cares about bringing criminals to justice.
Female human vigilante (masked maiden) 1
N/LN Medium humanoid (human)
Senses: Perception +4
Initiative +1
AC 22, touch 11, flat-footed 19 (+9 armor, +1 Dex, +2 shield)
hp 11 (1d8+3)
Fort +2; Ref +3; Will +2
Speed 20 ft.
Melee longsword +5 (1d8+4/19-20)
Ranged composite longbow +3 (1d8)
Statistics
Str 19, Dex 12, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 10, Cha 10
BAB +1; CMB +5; CMD 16
Feats: Intimidating Prowess, Power Attack
Adventuring Skills: Climb +3*, Disguise +4, Intimidate +8 (+10 to force friendly; +12/+14 social identity), Perception +4, Sense Motive +4, Swim +3*, Use Magic Device +4
Background Skills: Knoweldge (engineering) +4, Knowledge (nobility) +4
Armor Check Penalty: -5
Traits: Armor Master (Reduce armor check penalty by 1.), Cutting Condescension (You gain a +2 trait bonus on Intimidate checks to force a creature to act friendly towards you, and can attempt such checks in half the normal time.), Vengeful (Whenever you strike the last creature that damaged you in the past 24 hours, you gain a +1 trait bonus on damage rolls against that creature.)
Drawback: Bitter (When you receive healing from an ally’s class feature, spell, or spell-like ability, reduce the amount of that healing by 1 hit point.)
Languages: Common
SQ: Dual identity (imperfect control DC 10), scars of the past, social talent (social grace [Intimidate]), vigilante specialization (avenger)
Gear: battered Gray Maiden plate, longsword, spiked heavy steel shield, composite longbow, 55 gp
Fiona was gifted with good looks and a solid build, and she built up her strength working on her parents' farm. But she idolized those who lived in the big city, and when she was old enough, she set off on her own to find her purpose in Korvosa. Enamored by the young and beautiful Queen Ileosa, she eagerly signed up to be part of her elite squad of women warriors, the Gray Maidens. That was a big mistake. The indoctrination process broke her physically and mentally, leaving her scarred and brainwashed to the cause. It was only after Ileosa's defeat that she was able to break free of her programming. She wept for her lost innocence, and vowed to return to a simple peasant's life again.
Unfortunately, the scars ran deeper than Fiona realized. Her mind has suffered a dissociative break, and at times she dons her old Gray Maiden armor and ventures out into the night to mete out vigilante justice. Calling herself Lacuna, she deals with lawbreakers in the harshest ways possible. Criminals quake in fear at the sight of the dark knight in her black-lacquered plate and blank mask.

Marcus Teric |

Fools don't understand evil. It is everywhere, in everything, and you have to root it out. I can's save your little girl if it lets that orc band go, they will kill whole villages if I don't stop them here. The boys were only controlled by magic and not evil in themselves, but I could not spare them so their blood is on my hands. And I will take that. I will bathe in blood if it was needed, wade through to my eyes in a sea of poor lost souls, all so I can save the world. What is one town, one family, one person as compared to the weight of a world?
What fool was I though? Tried to turn away from it, tried to have a family, a wife, children... worked my land, tilled my soil, planted my seed.. and then those goblins were sighted.
Always some evil, should have killed them right away, but I had to worry about my children, my wife, my land. The rulers will deal with them... now I have no land, no wife, not even my little Sasha survived. Now I just have my old armor, my old tools, and the blood on my hands. Just like before...like I never left...
I am only going to submit Marcus. I do not want to put forth a character for another role and then regret that it was chosen over this one.

GM Nightfiend |

This is a good concept with an interesting background. If selected, I would need to see more information on Marcus's current location, what he is currently doing and possibly a bit more about what happen to his farm and family.
"I have seen a good man do bad things and a bad man do good things. I don't believe that there is any such thing as a righteous man."

Marcus Teric |

Thank you, I left it vague to begin with to allow for him to be woven into any story. If you want a more concrete where he is now and where he is going I can get you that.

Kakita Atsuko |

Sorry, I'm in the panhandle of Florida so the Hurricane made it tough posting the last 2 weeks as this week was busy catching up on all my games and work. :)
So Atsuko was originally put together for a pathfinder spin on L5R, she was a Bushi Warlord using Path of War. I kept her background thinking it would work fine with Tian Xia and it's Oni presence given the Jade Regent AP.
I like the flavor of Servants of the Sacred Hymn. If you wished to include it yes that would be cool. I would love to change her back to the Bushi Warlord if you were ok with Path of War, you just said prefer no 3pp. Thanks for the consideration :)

After reviewing your backstory, I made the presumption that it was rooted in Tian Xia. As fare as the Servants of the Sacred Hymn, I will need to give that some thought. It looks interesting, to say the least.

Recruitment is now Closed.
Well, it looks like the time has finally arrived. I would like to begin by thanking everyone for their submissions. I have read a lot of well thought out backstories and reviewed some unique character concepts. In all, I believe every character I have gone over has promise. That being said, only five selections can be made. I will maintain a list of alternates that will be contacted through PM in the event that someone bows out.
For this category, I would like to invite:
Apoc Golem
Playing: Berta Lighthammer
To join me on the Destiny’s Call discussion page.
The alternates for this category will be:
1. Havocprince / Playing: Marcus Teric
2. Alias of Ashe / Playing: Kakita Atsuko
