As a veteran of the first Pathfinder Humble Bundle, I have a question.
Has Paizo taken steps to ensure that when their playtest document is released next month that we will actually be able to download it?
I am not familiar with the Humble Bundle issues, but I believe they stated (in one of the Friday Streams, I think) that they're offloading much of the strain to cloud storage, which would mean that there won't be undue strain on the servers on release date.

KingofAnything is correct. They specifically said the issue they had during the first humble bundle was the personalization server getting overwhelmed as people tried to download their loot.
However! Free downloads don't get personalized, so probably won't be a thing for the PF2 playtest. Other things might come up, but probably not that.

I've downloaded some player's guides for APs (normally I like dead tree books, but those aren't available in paper form), and those were both free and personalized. I hope that what people are saying is correct, however.
I think there's a higher likelihood of that not being the case if we are to believe them when they said they're using cloud based systems for playtest launch. Free PDFs are personalized from Paizo, because they're already on the Paizo server, and my guess is it's far easier to program a Universal Personalization System than implement something that ignores certain things, without the risk of accidentally tossing a paid PDF without Watermarks. Since Player's Guides aren't nearly as high a server load as the Playtest release, there's no reason not to use their own server.
I'm not 100% that we won't see any technical issues, since I think there is a chance that they underestimate the traffic they might get, day 1, especially if non-PF players decide to take this as a moment to try out PF2e, but I think the fact that they've mentioned it as a problem they're aware of and actively working to mitigate makes me think that they're probably getting prepared for such eventualities, since I'm guessing someone on the team had that thought as well.

They expanded their capabilities back then. There will likely still be delays for a few days as with all big releases, but hopefully it won’t be too bad.

Dear OP,
In case your free product will not be available on release day and the resulting psychological trauma will cause you major distress, my services are available at affordable hourly rates. Options include: a really nasty forum post, am equally spiteful Reddit post or at a slight premium, a warrantless but intimidating threat of a class action lawsuit.
Here's my card.

I seem to remember them asking people not to share the free PDFs (like player guides and the previous playtests). I don’t remember the reason - I think it was to help gather usage data (?)
These PDFs will be watermarked. We want everyone to get the PDFs from us because it helps us understand usage, but also because we can notify of updates and (depending on your privacy settings) communicate with you directly about the playtest and other things.
So yes, please have your players get their PDFs from us directly!

We did significantly expand our capacity during that campaign, and we are moving our watermarkers and download servers to the cloud prior to this launch to further increase capacity and responsiveness. And since we know that a lot of people coming to the site in August will want either just the Playtest Rulebook or ALL THE PLAYTEST STUFF, we'll be presenting those particular options in a way that makes it even easier on you and on us.

Most will rely on the "Products, Offers, News, and Events" checkbox.
If there are any playtest-related Pathfinder Society-specific mailings—and I'm not sure whether there will be or not—those go by the "Organized Play" checkbox.
And if we update the playtest product PDFs, you'll only be notified if you have checked "Digital Content Updates."
