Hello all, I am starting a continuous Golarion meta-campaign beginning with Rise of the Runelords Anniversary edition. What do I mean by continuous? Simply that the PC's actions, legends and successes or failures will continue to effect my version of the world of Golarion in all of the games I set there on these boards, of which there will be many over time.

I plan on running each adventure and each adventure path only once; the results of which, success or failure, will become the reality of my Golarion. This is a pet project I plan on running for the rest of my life(I like pathfinder that much!)

Anywho, all of that is just an aside at the moment, what matters is playing!

I will be accepting 6 players for this game. Characters may be created using any material in the core rulebook and the core rulebook only.

Characters are built at 2nd level using 25 point buy and starting with 1,000 gp in wealth.

Character Selection will be on the 13th, after which the game will begin shortly.

There will be two house rules regarding combat to speed it up for play by post;

1st is that I will not use a grid, movement will be a narrated abstraction with only general distance mattering.

2nd initiative will be done away with, instead I will declare when combat starts, from that point on PCs will have 24 hours in which to post their actions. The actions occur in the order they are posted. After 24 hours the bad guys get a turn after which the PCs have another 24 hours in which to act, etc. until combat is resolved.

Please have a fully fleshed out personality and backstory and a reason for being in Sandpoint for your character with your application.

Please only apply if you genuinely intend on playing the entire campaign without dropping out.

Other than that I look forward to gaming with you!

Sounds great I will have something up soon. I like core only games. Plan on doing a Cleric.

Only got into one RotR...it sadly died. Really wanted to try again for awhile. I’ll get a paladin up.

Will get fluff up Monday, and build will be in profile.

Interested in having a Ranger in the group.

How will you handle character death?

CrystalSeas wrote:

There will be no character replacements, if a character dies, the party must find a way to resurrect them, otherwise they are gone and it's time to split up their treasure.

This means there is a very real possibility any given adventure or adventure path will fail in my world.

That sounds...interesting. FCB will certainly be HP, I can say that.

Grumbaki wrote:

It is partially offset by the fact that the party will have 6 characters, always properly wealthy, and I level up the group at standard points instead of with xp, always making sure they are always 1 level ahead of the curve.

But yes, in this campaign world there are "real" consequences.

I've been wanting to do a core halfling rogue for a while. Getting it sorted.

edit: How is 2nd level hp calculated?

Yes, and I love this idea, I've been thinking how cool it would be to be sitting in a tavern and some bard walks in and begins telling the tale the time the would was almost destroyed and your. Or having a paining in a mansion and it's of a PC from a previous adventure defeating a dragon or something. Are you planning to open uo other races and classes in later campaigns, I think Runelords should be run core though.

Max hp per hitdice every level.

Possibly, I want every game to be core for a sense of world balance but with specific games I may open up certain races, classes or options that fit the adventure particularly well, we will see.

Here is Nimon's submission.

Backstory:
Priestess Valexana Weis hails from Korvosa. Daughter of a High Priestess of Sarenrae Mila Weis, that gave up her position in the church where she lived in Qadira for the love of Valexana's father Zindor Weis a minor noble.

Even though she was well taken care of, maybe even pampered, Valexana could not wait to leave the life of nobility and courtly non-sense behind. At first joining the church of Sarenrae was a way to continue her mother's lineage and get out of the house, but soon she became deeply pious and understood the immense responsibility it was to be truely dedicated to religion.

Valexana loved children, especially infants. Her instructors found that she had a knack for assisiting in childbirth and trained her as a midwife. She became one of her churches youngest midwives, and took to her duties with pride.

The church could only shield her from her families schemes for so long. Eventually they would parade her at functions and it seemed to Valexana she was no longer as a daughter, but as a form of pious currency for her family to make false claim to. She saw her mother in new light, a women she once admired, she saw as flawed and superficial. Not a true believer in the faith.

News arrived that the town of Sandpoint had finished constructing a new Cathedral dedicated to all of the main religions in Varisa. She decided to capitalize on this as an opertunity to finally leave her home. Valexana pleded that she be allowed to accompany an envoy to Sandpoint to represent Sarenrae and offer her services as a midwife for the church to earn her keep. It took some convincing, but eventually she was allowed to go.

On the way to Sandpoint her envoy was waylaid by bandits and she barely survived the encounter. It was a harsh wake up call to the realities outside the comforts of Korvosa. She arrives in Sandpoint physically and mentally exhausted and seeks only the santuary of the church for now

mishima's in-progress halfling rogue. Black market gem and adamantine merchant dealing mainly with svirfneblin and goblins...

This will be the Nine's entrant, will just have to adjust to the charector creation rules, background should stay the same.

This would be the 4th attempt at playing this campaign and I love the idea being the concept of adventure paths that matter.

dotting for interest. Working up an Elven Wizard. Traits or no?

No.

I'll dot in here. Going to roll up a bard.

Grum here. Crunch and background incoming. :)

Good day GM Yasss Queen,

I'm interested in applying to your game, as I love this concept!

I'm currently running a RotR Core only, the thread being here.

I'm wondering if you'd consider me as an applicant for the game?

Sure. Just make a character for consideration.

HI..please accept this character as my submission. Pax is on his way to becoming an Arcane Archer. Will have Background and Appearance up asap.

thank you

How do you plan on dealing with players having to withdraw? Seriously, the shortest I've ever seen RotR finished was a little under two years, and a lot can happen in that time; change in jobs, in personal life, and in the most extreme cases a player might develop health issues that prevent them from playing. Unless you have some way that the PCs can recruit assistance mid-AP, this has the potential to be less than fun if the party loses its primary combatants...or its only capable healer.

Submission complete. Everything is in the profile, but I'll post story here in case anyone wants to link up.

Story:
The old, gray orc thief stumbled into Chipluck's alley bloodied and torn. Shoving a handful of alexandrite and topaz into the halfling's shady palm the orc muttered "More for the cleaner..." without a flinch or a single facial tell the gems disappeared into thin air.

Chipluck repsonded "That's double last month's score. You got a blood moon watching out for you..." the payment was over just as fast...in the halfling's favor, of course.

It had been a good week, he managed to dodge Deputy Silverthorne's investigations more than once. He had picked a new droppoint for the goblin or svirfneblin runner that made turning the gems into gold much faster. He even had come up with a new "shopsign" based on the drow script, a charcoal written rune signifying his fencing activity to others of the night. This new one blended into its surroundings much more subtley.

But he broke his first rule: he got greedy. He had commisioned a Kaijitsu insider to create a few forgeries of precious jewels out of glass. He thought he could double his money sending the fakes down to the Underdark and the real ones into the goblin warrens. But someone in the chain of business tipped off the guard, and it was all over.

Silverthorne cracked down hard, but was only able to pin Chipluck down on possession of stolen property. After about 8 months in the slammer he walked a free man again, equipping himself from his stash and looking to start anew...

Background:

Cortin is a member of the city watch, working for Sherriff Hemlock to help keep Sandpoint safe. During his off-hours, he performs as a storyteller at the White Deer Inn, where he exchanges his services for a room and board.

Although a Half-Orc, most of the people in Sandpoint genuinely like Cortin, as he is usually cheerful, kind, and helps out wherever he can (he has, at one point or another, helped most of the businesses and farmers in town by doing things like helping bring in crops, or deliver food to the outlying farms.

Cortin rarely has a bad word to say about anyone, even the people he is arresting. A large man with massive hands, Cortin is also known as one of the better arm wrestlers in town.

Tearamieriel Elenlon:

Tearamiriel Elenelon* is a half-elf child (28 Golarion years, but has the maturity of a 16-year-old human) from Stoneford, a small village on the Turandock River just east of the Tickwood. It is about 3 miles from Sandpoint along the Lost Coast Road, a bit more if you use the river as your route.

She is the unacknowledged daughter of an elven noble house, who would like to pretend that Merry does not exist. Her human father is a trapper and hunter who left her with his sister Danine to raise.

Danine is a cleric of Milani and a fierce protector of the rights of the poor and shunted-aside, powerless people of Varisia. Merry has some of the same fierceness, but is more interested in action than prayer.

Whenever her father returns to Sandpoint, he makes the trip to Stoneford to spend a few days with his daughter, teaching her woodland survival skills and a love of nature.

She once went with a band of adventurers to explore the lair of Black Fang, which lies only half a mile from Stoneford. Black Fang, tiring of the incessant disruption of his home by novice adventurers, has left that cave system, but local teens still use it as a test of bravery.

Merry is often in Sandpoint, running errands and making deliveries for people from Stoneford who would rather stay busy with their own tasks than venture into town. The exception, of course, is the Swallowtail Festival, which brings people from all over the Sandpoint region.

She has begun to chafe at the restrictions of small town living, and has hidden aspirations to confront her mother's family to force them to recognize her. This is somewhat stymied by the fact that she's not sure exactly where her mother lives. Her father has not been very forthcoming about the circumstances of her conception.

Either another one of the players can play their character or I'll make them an npc, either way the party won't lose a character if a player drops.

So many half-elf submissions. This party truly needs a dwarf. ;)

Will get fluff up today. Also took the trait Giant Slayer.

Just saw the bit about player's guide traits being allowed. Added Family Ties.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

From trait:

"Your family’s village was plundered by giants in the wilds of Varisia, leaving nothing but a smoldering ruin. After the destruction of your village, your family trained for combat against giants to prevent such a tragedy from ever happening again. Since hearing of giants mobilizing throughout the countryside, you ventured to Sandpoint to help the town prepare for a possible incursion."

Background:

Kazador stomped through the town of Sandpoint. The dwarf looked around with a critical eye. They call this civilization? The dwarf thought bitterly. While shorter than the humans milling about him, the dwarf was far more broad. He wore a steel breastplate, and a perfectly balanced dwarven waraxe hung from his belt, along with a collection of smithing tools. This was mostly covered by the hood and cloak that he wore. Where his gear was obviously well taken care of, the cloak was completely different. It was patched in many places, was old, weather beaten, and faded. Much like myself he thought glumly.

The dwarf had hailed from Grung Varn, a mine located not far from Sandpoint. A village, as far as the dwarves would think of it. Kazador and his Clan had lived there, mining and smithing. They had moved there from Janderhoff after his cousin had found the seams of ore. It had seemed like such a good idea at the time. Kazador had come with his wife, not as a miner, but as a smith. Someone who could repair and make tools for the miners who worked the earth. They knew it would be hard work, but to start a new mine? The wealth of the earth was to be theirs. Far away from the competition in Janderhoff, it was how they would start their savings. Their family.

He scowled, the burning rage within him threatening to rise up. He could feel the hatred like an inferno, that threatened to consume him. He bawled his fists as he fought to control it. A passing lass looked at him with concern, seeing the look on his face. He took a deep breath. He wasn't angry at these people. No, it was not their fault. It was the giants...

He remembered the day like it was yesterday. When the giants came. A caravan had gone out to sell their ore. It failed to come back. Only Lokri did, with a broken arm and wide eyes. Giants! He had screamed the word as he ran back. The clan barely had time to get everyone underground before the giants came. They thought that would be safe in the mines, where the giants couldn't reach them.

The giants had laid siege to the mine, unable to get in, and the dwarves unable to get out. Day and night the giants bellowed and banged against the stone, trying to force the dwarves out. But Kazador and his Clan had no intention of fighting. They planned to dig their way out. And dig they did.

Even dwarves can make mistakes though, and his clan paid for their hastiness. For Grung Varn translates to 'the mine by the lake', and it was the lake that they breached in their haste to dig their way to freedom.

The memory of the water rushing towards him was all too real. Of the desperate flight. Of how he and the rare few of his clansmen who could ran out into the night. Right into the waiting giants. What followed was a slaughter.

Kazador...he ran. Everyone did. Scattering in all directions. What good could a half dozen dwarves do when outnumbered by giants? He saw poor Lokri with his broken arm get ripped in two when a pair of giants fought over him. The dwarf's screams still echoed in his dreams. He saw brave Bolgar try to make a last stand. He learned that day that a shield, no matter how well crafted, could not parry a giant's club.

Even now, in the safety of Sandpoint, he could see with his waking eye that fateful night. Of how he managed to get behind a boulder, of how he watched helplessly as the last of his kinsmen were slaughtered. As much as he had wanted to charge out, they had died before he could have even gotten to them. There was nothing that he could do. At least, that is what he told himself every night.

For a day he stayed there, watching and waiting. He heard the giant victory songs, he saw them loot whatever they could. But he waited...hoping for a sign of his wife. There was none. He knew that there was only one way out of the mine, and she had never emerged. Their home had become her tomb, and with it, all of his hopes and dreams.

Left with only what he had on him, in his planned flight, Kazador made his way to the closest town. Sandpoint. His clan had planned on selling their ore to the humans of Sandpoint, to make more gold than they ever could have bargaining with their own kinsmen. Now, as the last of his kin, he came for a different task. To warn them of what had happened to his people.

He told himself, that he had survived for a reason. That Torag had allowed him to live because there was a plan. It kept him sane. And right now, the only thing he could think of to do with the life gifted to him, was to ensure that what happened to him did not happen to anyone else.

Personality:

Kazador used to be a smith. Strong of arm, he worked the forge tirelessly with his wife, Gertrude. Once, he was quick to laugh and to tell tales. Optimistic about the future, he joined his clansmen in a doomed venture to open a new mine.

With the loss of his family due to a giant attack, Kazador has been left embittered, and slightly unhinged. The rage that burns inside him is something new to him, and he struggles to control it.

But even with the tragedy that he has suffered, his basic nature has not changed. He is still loyal, dependable, and overall, wants to do good in the world. His new goal in life is to get revenge against those who have harmed him so greatly, and to ensure that nobody else need feel the pain that he does.

Party Role and Level Plan:

He is a barbarian. So...he rages, and hits thing with his axe. Hard. That said, I plan to do what I can to make him as survivable as possible. As a dwarf, he isn't reckless. Therefore (sticking to core only):

Lvl 1: Power Attack
Lvl 2 Rage Power: Guarded Stance (dodge bonus when raging)
Lvl 3: Furious Focus
Lvl 4 Rage Power: Scent (no hiding from this dwarf)
Lvl 4 Stat: +1 Strength (18)
Lvl 5: Dodge
Lvl 6: Rage Power: No Escape (immediate double move when enemies withdraw)
Lvl 7: Toughness
Lvl 8: Rage Power: Clear Mind (re-roll failed will save)
Lvl 8 Stat: +1 Con (17)
Lvl 9: Weapon Focus
Lvl 10 Rage Power: Increased Damage Reduction
Lvl 11: Iron Will
Lvl 12 Rage Power: Increased Damage Reduction
Lvl 12 Stat: +1 Con (18)
Lvl 13: Lightning Reflexes
Lvl 14 Rage Power: Increased Damage Reduction
Lvl 15: Improved Iron Will
Lvl 16 Rage Power: Mighty Swing (auto confirm critical hit)
Lvl 16 Stat: +1 Str (19)
Lvl 17: Skill Focus Improved Critical
Lvl 18 Rage Power: Renewed Vigor (can heal himself while raging)
Lvl 19: Skill Focus Perception
Lvl 20 Stat: +1 Str (20)

So as can be seen from this, all core, no matter what level we go to. By lvl6 he can remove the AC penalty from raging completely with a move action, and he will eventually have enough DR and Con to be pretty tanky. And of course, as a barbarian, he can rage and power attack for solid damage. His saves should also be fairly decent as well.

And finally, for the party he brings perception (a problem for many classes in core) and at lvl4 scent, which should help us find hidden enemies.

I've also decided to 'waste' a skill point on craft-weapons. This is for his background. I haven't decided on whether or not to keep investing in it or not. But either way, I feel like it makes the character more well rounded.

Finished Pax's background.

Looks like you could use an arcane caster. I would be interested in playing a Human Sorcerer, possibly the Arcane Bloodline. I will get a write up fleshed out for you in the new few days.

EDIT: Toss up between Arcane or Draconic Blodline with the idea of going into Dragon Disciple. Thoughts between the two for your campaign?

Really liking your submission and level of involvement Kazador.

Either is fine. Party could definitively use some arcane backup in this game.

Here is an Arcane character for consideration. His backstory is already written for RoTR. I just need to tweak his stats and level, and account for the extra starting gold.

Hope he meets with your approval!

Silver Crusade

I've got a basic start for a character based on this old PFS character, whom I will update soon. My question is, since wizards start with Scribe Scroll can Andrezi use some of his starting wealth to make his own scrolls? Second question, the Golarion languages aren't part of the core rules, can I learn them (such as Hallit, Varisian, Polyglot, etc.)?

Glad you like the character! RoTR was the first AP I got into here (about 2 years ago). Was very sad when it died, and have been hoping to try again since.

Background:
More to come after work

This is a work in progress.

Question: are you allowing item creation feats? This could change my skill selection.
Will you be allowing the improved familiar feat?

Count me interested! I've got an eldritch knight concept that I've been eager to see in action for a while! Gimme some time to put it together...

Silver Crusade

Got some more concept points and finished crunch in profile. I'll keep checking back to see if the questions about crafting are answered.
