Goal: To further the aims of the Pathfinder Society by establishing a lodge that can support the exploration of the Emerald Spire
Settlement: Claim a staging ground to explore the Emerald Spire
Alignment: We are aligned to the Pathfinder Society. We explore, we report, we cooperate. No open evil acts
Sponsoring Guild: Thod's Friends
Roles wanted / needed:
Explorers and Dungeon Delvers: We want to be among the first to go into the Emerald Spire
Hunters and Monster Slayers: The proposed settlement spot has a lot of nearby monster spawning hexes - so we will have to be on constant vigil against them
Traders and craftsmen: We should get a good influx of loot from monsters - but heroes need equipment to fight
Healers and Wizards: This place will need healing and knowledge
Political positions and allies: We follow the Pathfinder Society first - alliances will be formed if they are not against our ethos and further both groups. We applaud the Rosewood Accord - but we rather follow it in actions as to have a signature being used against us
Some more information OOC:
Settlement spot: Ideally spot V or as close to the Emerald Spire as possible.
Settlement name: This will be discussed after 1st June and to be agreed by majority of members at that stage. We might not get close to V and therefore a name is best chosen if we have an idea how likely we are to succeed.
How can I join: First - you need to be in Early Enrollment. If this is the case, then open an account at Goblinworks.com and join Thod's Friends
Why do I need to become a guild member of Thod's Friends: There needs to be a sponsor for the land rush and for the initial settlement. That is how it works OOC
But what if I want to be in my own guild / have a small guild myself: there is more space in a settlement as for a single guild - so please approach me and I will try my best to work something out. You and your members still would need to 'join' for the purpose of the land rush.
What has this to do with the Pathfinder Society? Any in game relationship will be explored once the game is ongoing. But the group needed a focus and goal and the Pathfinder Society seemed the most obvious to fill this. Thod - the leader of Thod's Friends is a long time Pathfinder Society GM. Also the first 7 members are all PFS GMs - from 1-star to Venture Captain. You should find me or one of our members at almost any convention with PFS play in the UK. As such it seemed fitting to 'align' ourselves with the Pathfinder Society in character as we currently are aligned ooc.
What about non-UK? We had to start somewhere - but I would very welcome any non-UK PFS members or even better having someone who likes to organize and join from the US. You might even meet up with me if you are at GenCon as I will be visiting this year. Update - looks we start to get Dutch members already
What if I'm not a PFS member but like what you do? PFS membership isn't needed to join. I mainly reach out to PFS members as I have many likeminded friends in this community. But we are always open to someone new.
Will you prevent others from entering the Emerald Spire? No !!
How much are you RP centered? It seems more as the average guild here. But we are a mixed group ourselves and should be flexible
I probably left a lot questions without answer - but this is work in progress

"No open evil acts". It feels as if there are several PFS-worthy campaigns right there.
And the Pathfinder society is once again misunderstood ...
We rescue valuable artifacts from evil minions which protect them. Any blood spilled in the process is unavoidable.
OOC: I added this as in normal PFS play you are not allowed to play an evil aligned character and I don't like any griefing. We still need to work out how this will work in PFO.
And it is better to lower expectations for players who want to play evil aligned - and then look at it case by case - as set the bar low and rue it later.

I've added your Guild to the Guild Recruitment & Helpful Links list next to the entry for Chartered Company without a name: Thod's Friends - PFS UK. If you have a brief description you'd like to appear there to let people know about your guild while they're browsing that list, just PM me or post a clear request here. Also, if you'd like me to remove the initial thread, please let me know.

I meant only to give you a smile, not to give any offence nor to impugn the reputation of the PFS. I think of you as participants in well-written, well-GMed, well-played scenarios and campaigns, so the image you put in my mind seemed worthy of that.

May I suggest, as a possible alternative to V (since you'll be rank-ordering all 30 spots for your voting anyway), site F? Lots of monsters nearby.
That screws over my whole background story ...
Joking aside - it is higher in the list of mine as it should be if I only follow distance to the Spire. I'm pragmatic if I need to be - but lets wait for 1st of June.
It also depends where certain other groups settle. Being close to some may be a plus and to some others may be a minus. But currently only Callambea, Phaeros and Brighthaven have a fixed position.

I will likely give an update to you in the next two days. I started late (Friday afternoon) to get into the landrush and play catch-up since. The main reason to post now was that I got the first unsolicited request to join - which is great as somehow information was spreading - so I felt I need to open this up to anyone interested.

Welcome! I love to see more Pathfinder RPG people involved.
Hopefully you can bring all those treasure to Callambea to sell.
(Or maybe the UNC can).
:o)
We will sell to whoever offers most ...

It is early days. I only started recruitment < 48 hours ago starting from 2 and I don't even know where we will end up. But you need a goal and looking at the map this seemed a good one that would give a nice narrative and hopefully gets people interested.

Good luck to you Thod. If Join Settlement: Aragon (CN) ends up with "V" and you end up with a settlement location we would rather have, I'm sure we could come to some arrangement.

![]() |

Thod's good people, and an exceptional GM. Best of luck!
Thanks for all the warm welcomes. We just managed double digit numbers for members. We might have started late - but we wake up earlier as you on the other side of the pond ;)
So lets see where we will end up tonight.

I have submitted a completely rewritten profile and motto to goblinworks (in line with the first post in this thread) that currently awaits approval.
My original one was short and hasty - mainly to ensure I got in before the goblinworks holiday break. Will be interesting to see which new guilds will show up later today when they go through the approval process.

Lies! Lies spread by longshanks, with too much time on their hands.
Any prisoners who may or may not have died, in transit to the proper authorities, are the result of unhygienic Kaer Magan 'cuisine'.
I hear their pasties are disgusting.
And not just the ones you can see during 'Miss Feathers' floor show.

/shakes head, at the apparent lack of role playing ability built into PFS or Pathfinder TT in general, not sure which is to blame.
AD&D 1st / 2nd editions had no such limitations. I can't imagine why PF TT would have decided to limit its product line and it's player's game play with the no evil play limitations.
BTW, not all evil characters are played by griefers. Not all griefers play only evil characters. Not all griefers are PvPers. Not all PvPers are griefers.
I have known or seen carebears that were griefers.

The Pathfinder rules themselve don't have such restrictions. Paizo actually provides a great background with lots of evil goods.
The exemption is Organized Play. Pathfinder Society has two meanings - in Golarion lore they are a group founded several hundres years ago that can be rather described as neutral.
In Organized play you automatically become a member of the Pathfinder Society and work your way up in the ranks. Not allowing evil is a design choice.
At conventions you sometimes get a random group of 6 people around a table. Open Evil can be a problem in such circumstances - also you have to follow a given assignment and how many assignments are there which work well for a LG and a CE character forced to work together.
Also - PFS organized play has a strict no PvP policy. This is a design decision as the GM only has limited allowance to chance the story. This is NOT sandbox gaming.
BTW, not all evil characters are played by griefers. Not all griefers play only evil characters. Not all griefers are PvPers. Not all PvPers are griefers.I have known or seen carebears that were griefers.
I'm in agreement with that. Otherwise I wouldn't be here but stay solely in tabletop PFS.

It is a PFS limitation predating the Pathfinder TT rules. Has nothing to do with roleplaying. Just avoiding random groups of players coming together to discover that their characters would be more likely to kill each other than complete the adventure together.

You won't get much argument from me about that.
I've been in the thread where PAX & Golgotha have been (wrongly, IMO) accused of gerrymandering, and attempted to inject some sanity.I'm sure much of the opposition to seeing Golgotha's POV, is because they set themselves up as 'The Evil Empire' (whoo-ooo-oooh!) on day one.
If they'd been The Saranraen Sisterhood of Stretcher-Bearers, people would be falling over themselves to say 'let them apply for a settlement, they're obviously a separate entity.'.
I've been playing since 1980, so I'm well-used to playing an amoral Gygaxian Doorkicker, in a variety of tabletop RPGs.
And I've played in several campaigns that encouraged PvP, where the GM acted as referee, adjudicating the fallout from our vendettas.
But while it can be fun when played well, by clever roleplayers with some measure of impulse control, it's not as fun when one or more of the players is a moron, playing an endless conga line of faceless kamikaze. "Redshirt no 273 has bled to death. Time for his identical twin, Redshirt no 274 to leap out of an alleyway, screaming..."
And it's not really conducive to getting missions completed, which is the thrust of PFSociety scenarios.

Checking the list of other guilds, I see two that imply they are made up of current or ex-Pathfinders;
Order of the Electrum Dragon - "Pathfindin' ain't easy"
Valsin's Rejects - "Explore, Report, Cooperate!"
They may be interested in the idea of an uber-lodge.
I've invited Kobold Cleaver, too, since he was toying with the idea of playing a roving newshound.

My main's already got his vote committed, but Herald Qender may consider this. She has kind of a heavy distaste for the Pathfinders in general, though.
And Bluddwolf, Thod summed it up. Pathfinder doesn't have anti-evil rules, PFS does as a practical concern. There are enough problems with evil-themed abilities already. See, there's this popular class called the Paladin... :P

Its mainly to head off Chaotic Stupid Evil people from running about with the express intention of killing of other player's characters. In a home game, you boot him and retcon things. In society play, less easy to do that, and he'll move on to a new group and pull the same shenanigans.
That said, a group of Evil characters all with their own plots can be *delightful* to play with.

Since this lodge will be in the arse-end of nowhere, it could always be reasoned that all the PCs who bunk there are on some kind of punishment duty.
Maybe they punched Drandle Dreng, when he woke them once too often, in the middle of the night?

![]() |

Drandle - please !! Can't you take some novice Pathfinders instead of prowling here my new recruits.
You can't still be ubset that Cathlressra and Harsk failed to rescue you in Shadow over Absalom.
I know they made a mess of it - but that was 2 years ago.
Damn - history catching up here - I seldom saw a mission go that badly wrong - but he seems to have a very good memory ...

Just out of curiosity do you have a guild for the landrush then? I know some PFS players that may be interested in your organization specifically.
Definately !!
We took part in LR1 as Thod's Friends - PFS UK. I'm trying to branch out and we just got members from Germany and one from the Netherland is still pending as he has trouble to get his account sorted.
We are PFS heavy - and it would be great to get someone from the US as it would give us a second time zone and hopefully a bridgehead to gather more applicants.
My contact e-mail is in the guild profile.

![]() |

Just checked the leader board, and we need another 15, to knock off the current number 10 slot.
If any of Athansor or Dakcenturi's groups are in a similar position, the possibility apparently exists (or will exist), for coalitions to declare for the same hex, while still keeping their original identity.
But the actual mechanism for doing that either hasn't been created, or is hidden somewhere on the GW blog.
There are so many guilds listed, that have only 1 or 2 members, and no contact info, so we can't issue an invite.

"Emerald Spire Base Camp"...what a *great* name. It sounds all K2-ish, that-way-be-your-death, and "here be dragons" marked on the map.
