Liberty's Edge

no combat maneuvers do not count as attacks. the description of multiple combat maneuvers use the phrase "in place of a melee attack" they are not attacks.
and yes I am using AC as the only meaning of defense, because otherwise you can argue that things like moving improve defense.
Now as to why pizo used defense and not AC, I think it is so the brawler's Bonus combat feat class feature can still be used for games that use the variant rule "Defense", as there is no AC at tables that use the rule.

Liberty's Edge

also combat maneuvers are done in place of an attack.

Liberty's Edge

no, because they can't directly cause damage, and some lower your defences like Grapple.

it comes from the descriptions in the classes.
here is Bonus Feats class Feature from the fighter the bold part is mine for emphasis.

Core Rule Book wrote:
....a fighter gains a bonus feat in addition to those gained from normal advancement (meaning that the fighter gains a feat at every level). These bonus feats must be selected from those listed as combat feats, sometimes also called "fighter bonus feats."

this means that from the fighter you can pick any feat as long as you meet the prerequisites and has the word combat after its name.

here is the brawler's Bonus combat feat class Feature
Advanced Class Guide wrote:

this means that the feat from the brawler has to be a combat feat that can't improve things like ranged weapons or a Combat Maneuver.

Liberty's Edge

You have 3 bonus combat feat's. With the one from the brawler being even more restricted.

Liberty's Edge

So the Rouge uses the crowd as cover for moving stealthy around or though the crowd to a target. Most likely to use sleight-of-hand to take something.

Liberty's Edge

Needing to use both weapons simultaneously is still not a problem because of Gun Twirling and Quick Draw. On the larger point I agree, most GM's would limit the number of free actions. Because this number of actions without magic in 6 seconds is ridiculous.
But yes that is as RAW the correct number of shots per round.

Liberty's Edge

For melee I recommend the Breath Weapon Bomb discovery. It give you a 15ft cone attack, it dose not provoke AOO's, and it stacks with Precise bombs discovery to avoid hitting the party.
Also with extracts if you take the Infusion discovery you can just give some extracts to the rest of the party and let them choice when to take them.
Finally trying to be good at all three primary class features will just spread you too thin. Pick two and focus on them. Also pay more attention to the discoveries, they will help more in focusing most builds than feats.

Liberty's Edge

My favourite is a elf reanimater alcamist, he became a adventurer to get specimens for research. I love playing alcamist in general.

Liberty's Edge

Also get alchemist fire or acid flasks for swarms.

Liberty's Edge

Also get a cold iron weapon. The cost is double the base cost of the weapon. A good idea is to make your backup weapon cold iron. For example, if your primary weapon is slashing, then make the backup blunt weapon cold iorn. I recommend avoiding piercing weapons for melee. Also get a range weapon, longbow is a good choice. At least until you can get a master work composite longbow.

Liberty's Edge

In the case of the grappling hook, you will need a rope or chain. I recommend a rope because you can put knots in it to reduce the climb check . You may want two ropes, one knotted for climbing, and one for tying up people.
For other equipment the fighter kit will give you most of what you need to start out. It is listed here.

Liberty's Edge

For healing I recommend just getting some wands of cures, mostly cure light wounds, its easier to heal between fights than during. And The ranger and The alchemist can use them to without a UMD check.

Brigh as well.
I like the contradictory nature or a goddess of science. Also her inqusisitioners are basically Blade Runners.

Liberty's Edge

Everyone has 360° vision.

Liberty's Edge

You are right. So you will need to spend more for a wand of make whole.
By the way do to the cost of the wand you may want to dip a level in to a class that can cast the spell, so you don't need to worry that you roll low and losses use of the wand.

Liberty's Edge

The easiest and cheapist is a wand of Mending.

Liberty's Edge

I've thought of this idea for an alchemist archetype. I haven't flushed it out completely yet, but he is what I have so far. It is a healing bomb alchemist.
Basically the alchemist bombs instead of doing damage they heal. So a direct hit at first level is 1D6 plus the alchemist intelligence modifier healing, and the splash healing is 1 + int mod. Every other level a D6 is added to the healing. There's no way for the bombs cause damage, they can only heal. The second thing I replace is poison use, and in exchange for that it gives the infusion discovery for free.

What do others think this idea, and maybe to help flesh out more of the archetype.

Liberty's Edge

Yes you are right. For unchained they reduced the number of attacks in a flurry at higher levels, in exchange for being more likely to hit.

Liberty's Edge

I forget the name but there's also a PFS scenario where the players have to protect an ambassador from assassin's, if I remember correctly the ambassador is also supposed be gay and married. Does anyone remember the name of that scenario?

Liberty's Edge

you are correct, so as long a the PC takes nothing that gives a mechanical effect it should be ok. Paizo needs to update the additional recesses guide on this subject.

Liberty's Edge

the reason it matters is because there are feats liked to certain gods.
as for Venerate
Merriam Webster dictionary.

Merriam Webster wrote:

venerate

transitive verb
1: to regard with reverential respect or with admiring deference
2: to honor (as an icon or a relic) with a ritual act of devotion

Liberty's Edge

the reason is both walking in a stance and because of the feat. Combat Style Master

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Ultimate Combat wrote:

Combat Style Master (Combat)

You shift between combat styles, combining them to increased effect.

Prerequisites: Improved Unarmed Strike, two or more style feats, base attack bonus +6 or monk level 5th.

Benefit: You can switch your style as a free action. At the start of combat, pick one of your styles. You start the combat in that style, even in the surprise round.

Normal: It takes a swift action to begin or switch your styles.

Liberty's Edge

In a home game it is no problem. In PFS it has been banned. The ruling is in Additional Resources, under Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea Gods.

Absalom's former Master of Blades, Vonran Vilk is he and his lover play a role in Scenario #3-16: The Midnight Mauler.

Liberty's Edge

no it is not allowed. from Additional Resources on the book Inner Sea Gods

Additional Resources wrote:
Gods: all of the gods listed in the appendix are legal choices except daemon harbingers, great old ones, infernal dukes, malebranche, nascent demon lords, orc deities, outer gods, qlippoth lords, and whore queens. A PC may worship a dead deity, but such gods grant no spells or other benefits;

Liberty's Edge

There is no RAW limit to the number of free actions you can take. But some gm''s might impose a limit. Also as far as I can tell smite evil dose not provoke a AOO, but I maybe wrong on that.

Liberty's Edge

It is on your turn. No you can not do two simultaneous actions on a turn.

Also Asmodeus understands the value of propaganda. Doing good things in his name is a plus to him.

Yes, pathfinder abstract's what direction a creature faces. Basically the game dose not care what direction a creature faces. All you need is line of sight to the target. In this case the target is the creature.

Liberty's Edge

This is just the beginner box. They my not have those weapons in it. So mostly this has become info for after you start the full game.

Liberty's Edge

And there is also weapon material, for example when fighting fay cold iron weapons help.

Liberty's Edge

Right I forgot that one.

Liberty's Edge

Yes, I think the only classes that can not multiclass is Rogue with Ninja, and paladin with antipaladin. Technically there are other's but there are ways around them.

Liberty's Edge

OK I get it now.

Liberty's Edge

Two things, first if a sohei gets flurry from any weapon training. Then why limit sohei to just the weapons listed? Why not just state that the sohei gets weapon training without restrictions.

Second rapid reload and using cartridges are how you get reloading down to a free action.

Liberty's Edge

Also there is the problem of miss fires.

Liberty's Edge

I don't think you can flurry with firearms. The Sohei weapon training is limited to bows, crossbows, monk weapons, polearms, spears, or thrown weapons

Liberty's Edge

The problem there is that there is still the time in the game world looking a each 5ft square.

Liberty's Edge

Avoiding AOO's, giving AC bonus when fighting defensive.

Liberty's Edge

the Unchained Monk would like a word with you.

thank you for those responses

Liberty's Edge

Earlier this week I was reading on the forms in a general discussion thread, about a player who proposed a fighter who acted like a paladin but was not technically a paladin. But did obey the paladin code, and one posters mentioned how they were not satisfied with characters walking around literally stating their class in the case of divine casters, like clerics, inquisitors, paladins, oracles, warpriests. And they posted a couple of name suggestions that a character would actually identify themselves in game world as. And that got me thinking, in "Inner sea Gods" it is mentioned that inquisitors of Abadar are are given the name "Taxmasters" why is only his inquisitors given a special name. Maybe we could come up with names for the paladins of the different gods the clerics of the different gods and so on through the divine spell casters. Anyone have suggestions?

Liberty's Edge

Last week I was at my FLG for a society game and one of the players mentioned in conversation that according to him, gunslingers could craft firearms. I'm pretty sure he's wrong on that and I couldn't find anything on any form that supported his claim, I know gunslingers can purchase ammunition at the same price as though they had crafted it. But they still have to pay full price for guns. Could anyone tell me if I just missed something obscure that he caught, because I do play a gunslinger myself and finding a way of getting guns cheaper would be a great help.

Liberty's Edge

Depends on how crappie your rolls are, and what you are tiring to achieve with the skills used.

Liberty's Edge

The gunslinger is screwed. Because the rules say that gunpowder is useless if it gets wet.

Liberty's Edge

It is simple you want to kill with the power of ROCK.

Liberty's Edge

Dasrak is right. This is important because fire is one of the most common type of elemental DR

Liberty's Edge

If you need to see how easy it can be to make gunpowder wach the Star Trek TOS episode Arena. Kirk makes a gun easy enough.

Liberty's Edge

One of my characters is a reanimator who cares with him donation forms for his resurch for characters after they die, he gets the body.
