My mind went straight to Dragon Ball.
Cup |
Yes, Cup likes tea. This is my second bard with a family interest in tea, but at least in Cup's case it's a single shop.
Jasmine is a one-woman marketing whiz, giving samples of Wu Chai Tea wherever she goes. (Yes, I have the price of the tea listed in Jasmine's ITS. Every two adventures or so, I purchase more.) Everyone, NPCs and Party members alike hear about the "Tea with the Monkey on the Box" that is on Jasmine's flag. What's funnier is that she's not exchange. (One of the other local pcs, has made a point of taking Jasmine's samples, and talking about how he 'subtly' crosses out the Wu Chai logo and writes 'Harv Tea' on the box and sells them in his 'legitimate business' as his day job! He is exchange... and the roleplay of this is hilarious.)
And yes, Oolong was named for tea. The other possibilities were Chai and Pekoe, but Oolong is more fierce, as it also means black dragon. One legend has it that the tea got the name because it was used for dragon tribute.
I do swear that I have other characters that are not tea-obsessed. It amuses me that two of them have such an interest, though!

Ah, that feeling of waking up to 6 fresh gameplay posts, chock full of questions... I missed that for a week! ;)
Post up soon.. I've got a lot to read and answer!
Sir D. Arthraven |
I've gotten an angle for D.'s personality, now that Cup's joined.
Maybe partly because i have a gnomish bard too....
Note, for those not too familiar with the terms:
Chibi = short or little, less than average height.
Chan = japanese honorific for something adorable/cute/sweet looking.
Gnomes are not too much an appearing race, according to some net searches, in Tian Xia. So to D. , i reckon she'd fit the bill.
I have wanted to go to Japan for a long time, and have had ample time to occasionally read into that sort of stuff, etiquette and honorifics and the like.
Can't have myself insult a proprietor of a place we'd spend the night at, now can i.
Cup |
I'm a Nipponaphile as well, D. Going for my aikido blackbelt on December 2nd. I appreciate all the Minkai terms!
Cup |
Ooh! What style?
Hmm
GM Red |
A question. I hadn't expected the preparations to go on into this much detail, and while I'm absolutely thankful for the geographical and historical knowledge about Golarion it's given me, did you folks want to simply fast track the travel time and begin in Saringallow once you depart Absalom (You travel along x, y, z, and before long, end up in Sarringallow), or did you want the travel to actually be part of this adventure?
The latter is a lot more work on my part, since I'll likely need to throw in encounters and learn more about the route there. At the same time, I want you guys to have the adventure you want, so I'll leave it up for discussion.
Cup |
As far as I'm concerned, you can state something like: "You journey for X days, fighting off goblins and wild animals along the way. But you're a large well-armed party, and you make good time."
In other words, you can sum up our journey and then just start us up outside Saringallow. I threw in what I knew of Isger to give the adventure local color... Use what you want as flavor text.
GM Red |
Gotcha. All of the little details are appreciated, of course. I'm always looking to learn more about the imaginary world I write about. :)
Cup |
I had tremendous fun researching Isger when I GMed Doom Comes to Dustpawn. Many of the small towns feel so undefended by their government that they make deals with bandits and smuggling bands for defense.
You won't use 90% of what you research on these places, but what you do use can be lots of fun.
Oh and I finally have a statblock up! Does everything look okay?
GM Red |
Yup, everything looks fine to me. I wanna see that buoyant balloon in action! Haha.
Mr. Peppers |
Those balloons are good times on small characters. My current regular roll20 game I play a Mindchemist Alchemist.. lots of fun toys. And those knowledge checks... A M A Z I N G!
As far as the travel, I personally enjoy travel and random encounters but I know its asking a lot of you. I'm happy either way you want to take it Red.
Cup |
Me too. I may pick up a couple more before we leave Absalom, because I don't think Saringallow will stock them. I love coming up with uses for oddball spells and alchemical items.
Mr. Peppers, I love you using prestidigitation as a laser pointer!
Uesugi Hideyoshi |
Hmm if this was played more like a module I'd say go for it with adding encounters but since we are playing pfs that is typically not the case. Im fine if you want to fast track it and flavour text what happens
GM Red |
Guys, there's another Paizo sale... Please take my credit cards away from me...
Sir D. Arthraven |
Ooh! What style?
I don't know about styles, just defensive i guess?
But we mostly do the standing variants, the wooden weapons are rarely used though. We get locks, flowing movement and deflection.
Nor do we wear colored belts other than white.
Could you tell me a bit on the topic?
I've not heard of such before.
Cup |
There are different styles or schools of aikido that go by different names: aikiki, ki aikido, yoshinkan, and others. I was curious if you knew which styles your school subscribed to. It's okay if you don't, especially early on in your studies. My school is descended from yoshinkan style.
Sir D. Arthraven |
I've been doing it for...about 2 years now.
There's a photo of Ueshiba hanging in the dojo, though. :)
Cup |
There's one of O sensei in every aikido dojo. :)
Sir D. Arthraven |
There seem to be misconceptions, regarding Aikido.
Since it sounds from the east, i've had a few people ask what kind of 'fighting' sport it is.
I have had to reply several times that it's nothing like the more aggressive martial arts. Funny huh....the defensive non aggressive type is less known than the aggressive budo sports, yet is assumed to be in the same court, sort to speak.

"Guys, there's another Paizo sale..."
GM Red |
It's funny because I only run face to face games monthly and I will never get through all of the Paizo content I own, but I keep buying more.
I guess I like the art and reading adventures more than actually running them. I just don't have enough time to run all of the F2F games I'd like to run.
Mr. Peppers |
Ya pesky things like work and sleep really hog time, I agree. Not to mention... winter is coming..
GM Red |
Same to you Mr. P. Back to our regular weekday posting activity! :)
Cup |
Dang, we're rolling high on those lucky numbers. I was hoping for a few 1-5 rolls in there to provide a reroll buffer against bad rolls. Ah well. A +2 at some point today is nothing to sneeze at, either!
Mr. P., you're right that Cup's wand contains an unusual spell. I fluffed it as something that I picked up in Vervex at Sincomakti School of Sciences, but the Lucky Number spell actually comes out of a splatbook, Occult Mysteries which has been great as a PFS GM understanding a bit more of the ongoing mysteries / controversies in Golarian's history, but which as far as I'm concerned has exactly one usable piece of player crunch: the lucky number spell.
I have to say though that as a GM I've gotten immediate use out of it: it talks about the death of Aroden, the Harbinger of Fate cult and the Book of 1000 Whispers. It discusses the mysterious disappearance of the Number 5 issue of the Pathfinder Chronicles. It even has a chapter that compiles the theories of why gnomes left the first world -- a place perfect for creatures of caprice and chaos -- to come to the material plane with its order and mortality. The latter has been great background information for Cup!
Mr. Peppers |
Ya I haven't been playing Pathfinder for more than a couple years now and haven't read any of the stuff outside the regular books so I don't really know much of any Golarian history.
That spell definitely isn't overpowered. I didn't notice any scaling with caster level at all correct? Perfect wand spell.
Gorgeous Gallix Granbonne |

That is definitely a fun spell. Agreed that it's a bummer we're getting such high numbers, but, like you said, a +2 doesn't hurt. Gallix only rolled a 9 though so that might come in handy if we come across a higher AC opponent.
Peppers, I'm in the same boat mostly. Only been playing for about 1.5 years now and haven't had the funds to pick up much of the extracurricular stuff. The Pathfinder Wiki is a good place to get a broad overview of some of this stuff if you're interested, though.
GM Red |
The Inner Sea World Guide is my personal favorite for PFS. Great overview of Golarion and its many regions and cities.
Inner Sea Gods and Faiths books are next on my list. I wanted to find a book that talks about the empyreal lords (as my paladin worships one) but it doesn't seem like there's a lot of content there for whatever reason. There's tons of information on the core deities though.
Sirettis |
If it helps, I rolled a 6. Let's go low numbers!
Cup |
Inner Sea Gods is an excellent read. I've been collecting materials on the setting for a while in PDF, in large part because I want to bring out more of the setting as a GM for my players, but it's helped my characters too. I agree though that the wiki is quite awesome for setting details.
Hmm
Cup |
BTW, if someone else wants to be a diplomacy lead, please let me know. Cup can auto-aid diplomacy, and when she aids she grants +4 instead of +2!
GM Red |
I need a little bit of time to compile a more descriptive post about the town as you make your way through it. I'll do that as work slows down. :)
Mr. Peppers |
Ha Hmm! I was about to post something about the two of us being at odds trying to talk over each other... or at least Mr Peppers trying to talk over you and throwing you a dirty look. Your ranks in diplomacy certainly have Cup taking the high road there!
Cup |
Cup does not want to make a poor first impression. Also, she wouldn't talk over you unless she was very, very excited! (Since she has "excitable" as a gnome trait, that will likely happen at some point.)
Sir D. Arthraven |
Hmm, Red, have you gotten your boon yet?
We can play a grippli. :)
Btw Cup, what would it take, to get that excitable trait showing?
Sir D. Arthraven |
GM in future Gamedays, get boons, get to be in games of your players...have even more fun. :)
Cup |
Yes, I have my froggy boon. I actually have three of them now -- I GMed multiple cons this Fall. Right now they're still in my boon folder, waiting to pop (hop?) into existence. I think it'll be very easy to be green!
I'm not sure I want to do an all grippli table without any real way to do damage at first level though. Thurston Hillman GMed an all grippli table in Wounded Wisp at SkalCon and TPKed them, then tore up the player's grippli boons in front of them. They thought it was funny, but I would have been devastated.
My characters are friends, not toys. I get way too attached to them!
And I think I've been somewhat excitable so far. It's early days yet!
Hmm
Uesugi Hideyoshi |
That's cold. I'm old school even if I got a frog boon I'd likely never use it. Mr. Peppers would play a great grippli though. His orc Luurg is almost there.
Sirettis |
I need to A) read up on grippli and B) figure out what kind of PC I would make. Maybe a dirty trick fighter/rogue of some kind?
Mr. Peppers |
I've been playing a mindchemist bomber for almost a year now in roll20 doing the Shattered Star Campaign. I wanted to play a melee version that was very different.. or at least mostly different. Luurg was born. Crazy high int with crazy bonuses in all skills to a passable int score with physical abilities with guidesman skills.
After playing the mindchemist to 13 so far I can safely say that yes bombs are pretty devastating in some situations, alchemists in general are better suited for melee with their spell selections. Hence the urge to try out a melee version.
