"Obviously they have heard of my paper discussing the Taldane Phalanx and how its tactics during the Even-Tongued Conquest have resulted in social change that still echoes through Cheliax today." opines Khellek.

"Though how that self serving rogue Jones managed to get his name all over the cover of the latest Chronicles is beyond me. It's not like his paper was even in that edition." he sighs and shakes his head at the injustice of the world.

A tall human woman, perhaps of Kellid descent enters the room, leans her spear against the wall, and regards those present with a keen eye. A sleek black cat pads in after her. She wears a masterwork breastplate constructed of a large red reptile and has a wooden shield sling over her back. She is armed with scimitar, club, and silver sickle and has numerous scrolls, bottles and wands about her person.

Noting something about Khellek she sits down next to the man and says Greetings brother. It is good to see I do not travel alone. The cat curls up at her feet and she turns to further regard the others in the room.

The scholar settles into the office waiting patiently... until he realises that Polly is also there.

"No! I cannot do this! You cannot come along until you hand in that Essay. The whole trip back from that volcano you had the chance. But you just swapped beauty tips and polished your sword, to what would meet even the standards of Taldane's Ulfen guard. If they normally used swords. Which they don't, but you wouldn't realize. Because You Didn't Do Your Homework."

He stands up and storms out.

She giggles. "And I don't mean like fashionable holes put in on purpose!"

After a moment she looks around, taking in the other members of the expedition. "Polly!" she shreiks, in a pitch that sets the dogs for several nearby blocks barking in distress. All these time as she observed the agents that came in, she matches each to their profiles listed in their respective dossiers.

Venture-Captain Sheila Heidmarch sighs as she turns to an even bigger stack of papers awaiting her perusal.
A tick in her brow as an antique vase is toppled over and destroyed. No matter, another agent would be tasked with the mending of it. Preferabely one skilled in such arts.

She begins to see a certain pattern in their antics, one of familarity an something they'll all need for the tasks ahead.

A dark haired woman, with a body structure resembling a half-elf but instantly recognizable as a full elf from her almond eyes is entering the room. Her dress is white, to better show the colourful accessories added to the outfit, and everything, including her collection of weapons, meticulously arranged to please the eye.

"The dossier you are examining, with the symbol of the Eternal Rose, is most probably mine, as I am Miriel... wait there's a lot of those? Is everyone a servant of...", she starts to introduce herself with a refined tone, but slowly drops to informal along her surprise until finally stopped by the gnome dashing past.

Miriel stares at the friends' meeting, looks back at the pile of dossiers with marks of Shelyn, back to the two friends, then connects some dots in her mind. "Polly? As in Apollyanna?" she asks, then without waiting for an answer, rushes to meet them. "I can't believe it's you! I know we haven't met, I'm Miriel, but I met Gwen! And Hera! So beautiful, Gwen told you helped in choosing. She was nice, a bit grumpy sometimes, but she promised we'd have party together. And such lovely colourful spells! We found a lot of lost art in this ruined temple, it will be restored and be even more beautiful, we should go see it some day. This will be wonderful, going together in the name of Shelyn", she starts to chatter excitedly. She stops for a moment, and turns to the gnome. "Sorry, it's just I met this lady Gwendolyn, who told me about her friend who was also a servant of Shelyn. I have been eager to meet her," Miriel apologizes, her excitement calming a bit, but still keeping the informal tone. "What is your name? Are you also a follower of our goddess?" she asks the gnome.

With a twinkle of her fingers her hair changes colour, yet again.

"Oh and I am totally into the pathfinder society. It's like the Best People. And we go and find Beautiful Objects. Don't you think there is beauty in ancient things. Miriel shakes Pirsim's tiny hand gently. "Well, do not worry, I am quite exited and I have never seen her. So, you colour your hair or for others too? I have never tried to, it has always been very dark", she says. She stands up, pulls a couple of pins from her hair and lets it loose. "I always thought it was my most beautiful feature", she says, running her fingers through the straight, shiny locks, and continues: "As I've always been short and stocky". She looks around, realizing she's a couple of inches taller and slimmer than most, then apologizes: "I mean, for an elf woman, that is. People I grew up with."

"The society has need to different kinds of expertise. The work of a librarian is no less important than of a field agent. I greatly appreciate our cooperation with the more scholarly people. On the subject of findings, yes, whenever I am called to a mission, I hold as my highest priority to preserve any artistic creations we discover", Miriel answers the gnome, her speech getting more verbose and refined as she calms from the initial surprises. "I do hope the current assignment will allow us to once again witness creations motivated by pure hearts. I await our esteemed host to brief us about our goals soon", she continues, and looks around, finally noticing the woman with a cat at her feet. "I apologize for not addressing you earlier. I am not accustomed to meeting several sisters in faith in the society, so my excitement took over my manners. Who might I have the pleasure to meet?" she says and bows to Stormy.

Sovereign Court

Chronicle Sheets GM Busy At Work........

A tick appears over Sheila Heidmarch's brow as the impudent Paladin strides over to look at files not meant for her eyes though she gives credit to Mirel's sharp eyes at spotting each individual dossier symbols.

This one though, the one named Apollyanna Lapin Sukino was apparently a Paladin as well by all the reports though her condut leaves much to be desired as she picks up her file and makes a note to include her behaviour and the matter of the broken vase towards her order and temple elders.

This one though did not seemed familar to the others based on her being slightly aloof. Stormy, a newly assigned agent it seemed. Given the muscle they had here, it may not be a problem though a pity that Apollyanna's lack of disregard for homework sent her apparent tutor off in a tiff and it was likely that he wouldn't coming back. She makes another note on that in Apollyanna's dossier as well. How in the name of all that is holy did this one make it as a Paladin of Shelyn?

Mirel seemed more level headed though it was stated that she too was a Paladin but the contrast here was rather startling.
Omrijka on the other hand seemed efficient and defintely left her a good impression while the little gnome Prisim had a more or less steller report on her, likely because she was little too excitable?

Stormy frown at Apollyanna's question. No. While I know of the Lady of Chrysanthemums I do not follow her, or any god directly. Instead I follow and receive my power from nature as a whole. I can believe that your upbringing has been limited with all the time that must have been required to preen and groom as Shelynite, but I am surprised you are not more informed of druids and our role in the Society. I shall endeavor to teach you.

Yes! His name is Droogami but I call him Droo and he is super soft because he used to live up high in the mountains and needed extra thick fur and that makes him super warm too and its like he has two different fur coats on at the same time cause he has both long and short hair all at once and he has a really long tail that helps him balance when he jumps from rock to rock hunting mountain goats and arctic hairs and his fur helps him blend into the rocks and snow and Lini begins to turn a little blue as she talks and forgets to breath.

VC - Sydney, Australia

VC Sheila Heidmarch

At the request of hosts Canayven and Sheila Heidmarch, you have been invited to attend a private meeting at Heidmarch Manor. A large number of your fellow Pathfinders have clearly also been given a similar invitation, however the appearance of Sheila Heidmarch suggests all is about to be made clear.

She calls for your attention, and as the noise dies down she begins to speak.

”Dear friends, welcome to Magnimar and the newest Pathfinder Lodge—Heidmarch Manor. For those of you who do not yet know me, my name is Sheila Heidmarch—venture-captain of Magnimar. This lodge is also my home, which I share with my husband Canayven. While we are far from the comforts of the Grand Lodge at Absalom, we shall do our best to accommodate you with our humble Varisian hospitalities. My husband and I both spent many years in the field, so we know well what you do and appreciate that you have answered our summons. We are both extremely grateful to receive you and your support.”

“As you well know, Heidmarch Manor is a new lodge. Presently it is funded almost entirely from my own resources. Although I adore Magnimar, we have as many enemies here as friends. This being the case, I seek to court the favor of more powerful allies, specifically members of the Council of Ushers and the Office of the Lord Mayor.”

“This brings the conversation to our current situation. On one of their more recent salvage runs, the wondrous artificers of the Golemworks uncovered a strange relic while dredging stone from the bottom of Magnimar’s harbor. The relic appears to be some sort of a giant key, etched with ancient Thassilonian runes that their learned arcanists speculate may even predate the coming of the mysterious runelords. Because the key falls outside their area of expertise, the Golemworks donated the curious aritfact to the Office of the Lord Mayor. In turn, the Lord Mayor intends to auction off the key to the highest bidder in short order, to fund municipal projects. The auction will be run by the Cathedral of Abadar, gold in hand—meaning immediately after the final bid is accepted, the bidder must pay for his prize in full.”

“We want the key. However, we want it legally. Our establishment in Magnimar is relatively new and our footing tenuous. We need to secure more stable political relationships with the Lord Mayor’s office and the Council of Ushers to ensure the Society’s long term success in this city; especially since the Aspis Consortium already has such a strong foothold here. The legitimate purchase of the Runecarved Key from the local authorities would demonstrate our respect for the city’s government, which would go a long way toward improving our public image with these people.”

“That said, we can greatly increase our chances of winning the auction by persuading our competition to back out. While there are some we believe we can outbid, we are a new lodge with far fewer funds than many. Thus, we must find out who else is interested in the key, how much they can bid, and whether or not we can knock them out of the auction.”

“To assure our success, our espionage must be extensive. Therefore we have divided the task between our agents. While division stands to place field operatives in greater danger, we cannot risk revealing ourselves by working en mass. If you are discovered, we will disavow any association with you. We cannot aid you if you get arrested or fall into the clutches of the enemies of our Society. While this is unfortunate, I hope you can understand our position.”

”For now, please make yourselves at home. We have provided accommodations for each of your groups. Feel free to drop off your things and prepare yourselves. Then meet me in the manor’s theatre in five minutes.”

There is a new general discussion thread HERE that can be used for cross table discussion etc. Feel free to jump in (or not) as you please.

Having just snuck in the door right as Lady Heidmarch began her speech was Lannior Llarm.

The lanky, wisp thin elf with prominent elven features; pale skin, eyes so blue they almost look black, long straight hair of very pale yellow, and of course long pointy ears. He searches the room as the Venture Captain continues, looking for any familiar faces. He wears rough-spun leather clothing, in shades of brown and green, over a shiny chain shirt. He also wears long brown leather boots, a dark green woolen cloak, and a long bow of fine darkwood over his shoulder.

Spotting two very familiar faces, he waits for some of the other assembled Pathfinders to depart before slyly approaching.

Hello Prisim! He says hardly containing his excitement at seeing the gnome. He also manages a smile for Apollyanna, Hello to you as well Apollyanna. It's so nice to see you both again, how long has it been? He nods also to the others he doesn't know and introduces himself. Hello I'm Lannior.

Prisim giggles at Lannior. Leaning closer to Polly she whispers
"He is *so* handsome."

Turning just a little bit pink she says "Oh you're no thorn. And like, even if you were, which you're totally not, like us maidens...we see all the inner beauty too!"

She sticks up her hand to ask a question

"Excuse me. Ms Captain... if we are being covert... does that mean we should be like hiding our wayfinders? I only ask because they are so pretty. I totally can put it in a pocket if necessary though."

She eyes up Miriel a little cautiously. "I'm totally sure I could change your hair colour for you. I don't do cuts though, but colouring and adding a bit of air. And glitter. Every girl needs some glitter."

As she says this she edges a little closer to the Linni and the big cat.

"Okay, he is cute, but it just totally gave me a look like I was supposed to be dinner..."

***OVERSEER POST***

VC Sheila Heidmarch

Even before the venture-captain arrives, the theater in Heidmarch Manor is crammed with Pathfinders. Heidmarch enters quietly, then slips through the crowd, takes the stage, and speaks. “Tonight, the Council of Ushers is sponsoring a pre-auction gala, to be hosted at the Cathedral of Abadar. During the party, the auctioneers intend to display the Runecarved Key in order to entice potential bidders. Anyone serious about entering the auction will be required to place a deposit of ten thousand gold coins in an escrow account at the cathedral.

“We need you to attend this event, both to submit our deposit as well as to determine who else might be interested in the key. While most of those attending received invitations, the event is semi-private and open to anyone with enough money to place serious bids. While the city provided me with an invitation, my appearance would give our many enemies cause for suspicion. For this reason, I ask that all of you go in my stead, and enter as my proxies. Still, we do not want out enemies to speculate on our own intentions. For this reason you must keep a low profile and avoid seeming too eager about the key. Each of you will be given a portion of the full deposit to take to the temple to present to Proctor Imikar”

Prisim jiggles up and down on her chair, her hand up in the air.
" Ohh, ohhh! Wayfinders! Are we like, showing off that we are like pathfinders, or should we be totally stealthy ninja-like covert folk. I'm just saying, cau's I mean like, we are all total babes here, and like everyone of us is going to have like all the eyes on us, for sure. I'm just saying, you know, that maybe it might be hard to be like secret squirrel."

She sits down and leans over to Polly. "And I totally had a pet squirrel that I really did keep secret. Although mummy did wonder about all the nuts vanishing from the pantry."

Within seconds her hand is back up in the air.

"Oh yes... another question... Like we are giving the money to this doctor guy, right. And he'll totally know we are part of the society, because we have to tell him who the money is for, right? So what is it that we might get caught doing that would make you want to pretend that we totally were not here on your instructions?"

Once you have received your briefing, Sheila gives you a strong box containing a portion of the deposit. You make your way to the Cathedral of Abadar. Upon your arrival, you witness a steady stream of guests ascending the stairs and entering the cathedral’s main sanctuary, where the viewing is being held. Rows of temple warriors wearing white tabards stitched with the golden key of Abadar flank the main entrance. Their hands clenched tightly around their gleaming swords as they stand almost motionless, ever-vigilant stares upon their faces.

As you enter, various low-level priests invite you to partake in food and beverages while you mingle about. You decide to deposit your funds first. One of the acolytes directs you to Proctor Jyronn Imikar, a pleasant Osirian priest who runs the temple. Imikar accepts your deposit and writes something in his ledger. You wouldn’t be proper pathfinders if you did not use the opportunity to attempt to see some of the writing. After a moment Proctor Imikar closes the book ”Thank you for entering the auction, will you also thank Madam Heidmarch on my behalf?”

Omrijka 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

Lannior Llarm:
You managed to spot the following in the ledger:
Maiveer Sloan representing the Aspis Consortium
Falrig Sneve
Kresch Vaor representing Underbridge Exports
Sheila Heidmarch representing the Pathfinder Society
Dymal Rinks, independent
The Duchesses representing no one
Doctor Ernst Landis representing the Museum of Ages
Zimandi Kaddren

With everybody else getting less and randomized anmes but Lannior got you all beat.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------

After depositing the funds you take a drink and something to eat. A squat man in white robes steps upon the cathedral dais to address the room. Introducing himself as the sexton of Magnimar’s High Cathedral of Abadar, he greets his guests with a broad, welcoming smile. “Good evening, friends! I’m pleased to see so many of our distinguished and honored guests could attend. For those of you not fortunate enough to have participated in our pre-auction festivities, please feel free to take part in all the luxuries and wonders within these halls. And with my welcome, I have the pleasure unveiling the auction’s feature lot. Enjoy!”

With the utterance of the final word he pulls aside the veil, displaying a gigantic key. It stands roughly three feet tall and is made of stone etched with glowing arcane symbols. The crowd applauds and people turn back to their companions to discuss the key. The crowd is an eclectic mix of landholders, merchants, and other notable figures from all over Varisia, wide-eyed and curious to glimpse the mysterious Runecarved Key. Hired servants weave through the crowd bearing luxurious platters of fruits, sweetbreads, and oysters or trays topped with crystal goblets of heady red wine. Guests mingle slowly, socializing amicably but cautiously with longtime acquaintances, as they feel out potential competitors.

At this time, you can attempt to scope the crowd to try to deduce who are the society’s most serious competitors. You can attempt a Diplomacy or Knowledge (Local or Nobility) check to find a specific individual or attempt a Diplomacy, Knowledge (Local or Nobility), Perception or Sense Motive check to give a more generic description of the type of person you seek

Lannior quickly gathers the Roses together. Here’s what I saw in the journal. Maiveer Sloan representing the Aspis Consortium; Falrig Sneve; Kresch Vaor representing Underbridge Exports; Sheila Heidmarch representing the Pathfinder Society, of course. He pauses for a second as he recalls the rest.

Dymal Rinks, independent; The Duchesses representing no one; Doctor Ernst Landis representing the Museum of Ages; and Zimandi Kaddren. Does anyone know about any of these folks?

Sorry. Looks like I missed out on Lini. Maybe it was the height difference.......
You may operate as a group or individually.
Lini and Droogami Perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31 <---Yep you see everything even things that shouldn't be seen. :P

Omrijka:

Two women stand to the side of the cathedral, conversing softly between themselves. Both are dressed in Varisian travelers’ clothes draped with thick cloaks.
A rather snobbish noble points them out and then huffs as she turns her attention to an exquiste looking eclair.

Apollyanna Lapin Sukino :

Despite talking to several people, it seems like either they have not seen any of the people that Polly wants or she fails to describe them appropriately.

Polly does note something though as a plump merchant attempts to get you attention but ends up revealing;
Two women stand to the side of the cathedral, conversing softly between themselves. Both are dressed in Varisian travelers’ clothes draped with thick cloaks.

Try as you might, you had rejection from almost everyone you meet though they're pleasant about it. However a waitress perhaps seeing you difficulty points out what she thinks could be of interest to you.

Your Venture Captain: Sheila Heidmarch except that being here as her representatives and being more familar with what she looks like, you can safety ignore her suggestion as the person being pointed out does not resemble her the least!

Prisim:

Thanks to helpful guests, You find your quarry;
Near the front of the gathering, vying for a look at the key, stands a balding, weathered old man wearing heavy robes stitched with runes. Despite his age, his face beams with a boyish grin as he gazes at the curious artifact.

Miriel Magol :

The Man eludes you as your attempts to sniff out his location fails. Either he has some kind of reputation or he's extremely low profile which wouldn't match your expectations of him or his organisation.

Failing even that she asks them whether either of them are Falrig Sneve.
