As will I.

Gunari Maximoff |
that's what we expected.
Afficus Tynch |
I had the stats for you, ya big whiner! =P
Can anyone bust out this jam ?
Gunari Maximoff |
where, oh where, did our GM go?
GM.Boldr |
This week has been hell, that's where I've been. Post will likely be later tonight.
Or Raven could post, since he's up.
Andrew Torgerud |
That is a nit-pick ruling designed only to hamper the player. The feat does not limit the bonus to spell effects (which other feats and traits do call out).
In addition, untyped caster level bonus are called out as benefting 3-4 parts of the spell but omits concentration checks - but does not exclude it.
Between the two, i completely disagree with your strict interpretation.
And the whole thing is moot if you give the obvious common sense 5-foot step before casting (seeing he is 20ft from the baddie after the 5foot you gave him post fail)
GM.Boldr |
That is the first time in my entire Pathfinder career I've even heard that argument used.
Expect that it will never work at my tables.
Argument closed on that issue, move on.
To Danny's action though, I agree that I accidentally was thinking about the 10' radius template when I was picturing reach. Note the word "accidentally". Afficus would have moved first with a 5' step to avoid the AoO, which is what I was trying to do with the concentration check.
Rather than jumping to the conclusion that I'm being an ass, how about for once, figure that I'm going to actually try to play your characters properly. I can make mistakes too, and I can have differing GM opinions than you.
GM.Boldr |
Trying to get some posting done today.
Sorry all, these last two weeks at work have been complete ass-kickers.
GM.Boldr |
This is all moot anyway.
Since emotions have calmed, I want to merely state where my GM interpretation regarding concentration checks comes from. So before I go there...
I admit that this ruling could be ruled differently at a different table; therein always lies the risk of table variation. I do think that it's only fair you know why I feel the way I do, especially since you may get to play with me again and I've felt this way since Beta when we were first testing out the new concentration rules (meaning I'm unlikely to change my mind). So without adieu...
"When you make a concentration check, you roll d20 and add your caster level and the ability score modifier used to determine bonus spells of the same type."
There's some superfluous text around that particular quote, but that's the important part. The key here is you add in caster level and ability score modifiers. The rule is no more specific under concentration than that. Therein lies the rub; the problem isn't most people don't reference caster level.
"A spell's power often depends on its caster level, which for most spellcasting characters is equal to her class level in the class she's using to cast the spell.
<Sentence about lower level stuff>
In the event that a class feature or other special ability provides an adjustment to your caster level, that adjustment applies not only to effects based on caster level (such as range, duration, and damage dealt), but also to your caster level check to overcome your target's spell resistance and to the caster level used in dispel checks (both the dispel check and the DC of the check)."
That one I put in its [near] entirety because that's where I think the meat is. The key here is that the specific spell effects based on caster level are called out in a "such as" list. My reading though is where it goes on with the "but" statement. It clarifies that increased CL does increase your spell resistance checks and dispel checks, but does not list concentration. As neither are listed in a "such as" list and they're given as concrete statements, I see them as exclusive non-spell effect variables influenced by caster level.
Back in beta there was a lot of discussion over concentration; one of the primary goals of the new rules was to make concentration meaningful again (anybody that remembers 3.5 remembers how much of a joke it was). In my personal reading (which you don't have to agree with, and I'd understand why you wouldn't), the fact that concentration is not listed was deliberate. In other words, the choice was to make concentration more difficult by not including it as a variable modified by caster level.
We don't have to agree on this point. I understand that it's a pretty vague section of the rulebook and I'm working off of an omission creating a rule rather than an included statement creating a rule, but that's the way I read the section. I agree that this could be construed as a gray area, so you're welcome to feel otherwise, but please respect that it does not work that way at my tables.
Hopefully that puts it into perspective.
GM.Boldr |
I just got back into town from being out.
I'm paying attention to the report date. Worst case, I'll submit early.
GM.Boldr |
Good morning all - two things...
1) We're not going to make the end-game deadline. Don't worry, and just keep posting. There's zero chance of having an unrecoverable body in this one, so I'll just finish the paperwork on my own and we'll finish at our pace.
2) I need your info to report:

I'll chip in too.
GM.Boldr |
Hey Keith, I have to submit today and I don't have your char number.
Assuming it's 11.
GM.Boldr |
I'll get Chrons out when I can.
For your reference though:
In-tier gold: 7909
Out-of-tier gold: 6230
PA Gained: 2
Boons Gained:
Jayorass's Ire: You have humiliated and angered the sage Irskin Jaoyrass, and he views you with contempt should you meet him again.
Your Reputation Precedes You: Word that you completely wiped out a Vashian the Needle's Red Mantis cell spreads through the secretive organization. You gain a +2 bonus on all future Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate checks against members of the Red Mantis.
(And this boon, folks, is why you can't skin your character even a "retired" Red Mantis).
GM.Boldr |
Please consider and write out any last thoughts your character has. But consider your characters released for another scenario.
Kain Highwind |
What are peeps contributing to the axebeak?
@gm - i'll cover the rest in gold
Gunari Maximoff |
So, just doing the math...
The Raise Animal Companion is a level 5 druid spell, so 5*9*10 = 450 + 1000gp diamonds = 1450
Denbora can cast the Restorations, so they will be 2 1000gp in diamonds as well, right?
So total cost of 3450, from what I can figure.
3450/5 = 690 each.
Gunari will throw in 690gp, 150 of which comes from his The Exchange card for spellcasting services.
Afficus Tynch |
I'll throw in 690, as well.
Thanks for GMing!
