Mortimer waits for the others to make their way east, and through the double doors, before opening the next set of double doors open, which he totally does.

This long hall contains a twin set of pillars, leading to a large set of doors at the far end. These are columns made of large marble blocks shaped like drums. Not all of them have aged quite the same, so their colors vary from gray to white to tan.

Bald male Half-Elf elder

Mortimer gets a laugh from Eidi while he takes the pipe "A Tabacco Pipe of Unknown Attributes! Now... wow... that is a present. I do have now a tube and a pipe. Isn't that funny?" the half-elf opens his waterproof bag while he walks through the door with the others.

The elder takes a small box and hands it to Mortimer "These are some smelling salts, able to awaken the unconscious or make react the staggered" he closes to the giant's ear to whisper "or enjoy an exciting bath with a young female" while he gives Solrisa a mischievous look.

The elder kindly smiles at Eri as he burns his ribbon "Oh, that was giving you a reckless look Sir"

Focusing on the task at hand, Eidi helps exploring the place by delivering small hits with his staff on the corridor walls "These places are always full of traps and secret doors"

Ascaria is somewhat bewildered by the burning of ribbons and the sudden bout of gift giving. He waits patiently by the new room, hesitant to head in first, remembering what such recklessness has done to him in the past.

He glances at the pillared room and wonders where they are and where the good Allustan is.

"This is a strange place." he mumbles.

Solrisa smiles as she waits for others to do their searching. She passes time by watching the light flicker off her new, pretty shield.

"Oh Mort, look! My shield!" Solrisa seems very happy about the shield.

Mortimer looks slightly crestfallen as Eidi gloats over his new swag, but suppresses a chortle of glee when presented with the smelling salts. Tube!!? What tube?!! He leans in to make it easier for the Thurge to whisper into his ear. He turns beet red at one of the suggested uses for the smelling salts, and suddenly finds himself staring right at Sol.

He quickly turns around and tucks the box into the Haversack trying to think of things to make blood go back to his brain.

Fish heads. Snow and ice. Those equal sided triangle things. My attempted career in Blacksmithing... Aaah, that's better.

"Thank you very much, Eidi! I've been wanting some of this for some time!" he says finally, turning back to the party.

Out of fear of embarrassing himself once more, Mortimer resists looking, but look he does.

"Yes, Sol, you're -- it's beautiful."

He quickly moves into the room trying to refocus his attention. He inspects one of the drumlike columns before heading toward the opposite door.

The pillars radiate, with an ever-present weaving of divination magic.

Mortimer takes in the length of the pillared room, his footsteps echoing on the marble floor, his hand testing the cold of the marble pillar.

Mortimer:

Much like Zosiel's tomb, multiple floors, branching wings, it's all very complex, this complex. Easy for interlopers to get lost, if they weren't familiar with the intended endpoints...

The party has been following Mortimer's direction, heading through the eastern double doors, into this new, pillared room. Eri had previously pointed out a set of footprints, leading from the Airy Chamber, into the Poison Vapor Chamber. Those footprints continue, and ended at the southern double doors...

Eri moves over to the footprints and tries to see if he can figure out if they are, indeed, Allustan's.

Solrisa spins on her heels to follow Eri.

"Eri, you lead and we'll follow you! It will be just like playing follow the leader, and just like all the other times I've played with Rae, I'm never the leader, which is good because I used to get lost a lot when I was in charge of leading myself," Solrisa beams at Eri, and is ready to follow him.

Eri:

The footprints are certainly the most recent addition to this complex, as you were barely able to ascertain their presence. As for confirming the presence of Allustan by his print, there is a certain dragging of the feet in the prints that belies an older man's gait.

Mortimer:

Needed a color to 'pop' on the map ;)

Mortimer steps to the southern doors, and opens them.

This intersection is lit by six flickering orange and yellow lanterns that float around a central statue of grey stone. The walls are similar in substance, marble that reaches to a height of 20'. The statue shows an androgynous Wind Duke wearing robes that seem to be stirred by a breeze. The figure may be a symbol of justice or war, for it holds a glittering sword outstretched in one hand and carries a balance in the other. The statue is eight feet tall and stands on a four-foot-tall pedestal.

To the right and left of the statue are hallways that lead to their respective double doors. Ahead, and somewhat removed from the light, is another set of double doors ending at the length of a longer hallway.

The set of footprints continues here, according to Eri, and leads to the right branch of this intersection, leading west.

"Oh, good job, Eri! You're a good finder!" Solrisa coos as they follow the footsteps. She wonders how Allustan knew where to go and why, and she hopes to ask him when they meet.

She enters the room to follow the trail.

Are these identical in contsruct to the laterns we had to find in the "native" Whispering Cairns? Is there any sort of inscription on the statue?

"Nice statue! Is it Zosiel, I wonder? Odd placement though. Makes you wonder if these Wind Dukes ever entertained," he says, looking thoughtfully past the party into the room with the spikes, doubting that it could ever be mistaken for a dining room. He looks back up at the Wind Duke. "Do you think she/he is modeled in his actual size?"

Mortimer scoots respectfully past the statue after the footprints.

"Yeah, it could be a warning I suppose. These seem like very lawful folk." Ascaria says uncomfortably, not liking to be judged. "And big if that's to size."

He follows the others, hoping to find Allustan well.

Eidi strolls through the double doors, taking in the statue for all its detail. A very familiar hand gesture, and the half-elf sports his cookie jar, procuring himself a moment's sustenance as he sets the statue to memory. He catches himself, as he unconsciously starts tucking away the jar, before he wordlessly offers its contents to the others, with an inquisitive eyebrow raise.

Almost as if called down by the gnome himself, Eri feels the weight of the room descend upon him.

Eri:

Get thee hence, creature of Chaos. You are unwelcome here.

Spellcraft DC 22:

You have witnessed a Dictum being triggered.

Eri, Will Save DC 22, or become Paralyzed for 1d10 ⇒ 8 minutes, Staggered for 2d4 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 rounds, and Deafened for 1d4 ⇒ 1 rounds. A successful save, and you are only Paralyzed for 1 round, Staggered only 1d4 ⇒ 4 rounds, and not Deafened.

"Canary, what made you say that you think these folks were lawful?"

Remembering a few rooms back, Mortimer suddenly halts in his pursual of footprints toward the next door.

WAIT! Did Eri just call me "pretty?!" Is he as blind as the gnome?!

Mortimer, now squinting around the corner, tries to surreptitiously observe Eri to see if he suffers from any signs of impaired vision.

He's just frozen there, reaching for cookies... with his mouth open, drooling...

"Hey, there Eri -- " he says approaching the Sorcerer, waving his hands in front of his eyes, "What happened? Snap out of it."

He looks at the statue. "Are you doing something to Eri?"

He looks at the party. "Do you think it would help if I moved him back?"

Seconds after entering the Intersection, the east doors swing open, revealing a snake-bodied humanoid, spines of crackling flame licking at its black-red scales. Just behind it, something very large moves in a chamber that appears to be entirely made of fire. Fire, moving sentiently within fire.

Knowledge(Planes) DC 16:

The creature is a Salamander, extraplanar creature of fire. The big ball of fire behind him is a Huge Fire Elemental. 1 question for every 5 above 16.

The creature steps forward, waving its spear lazily in your general direction. "What is this? Who are you? Why are you here? When was the last time we had guests, Smoughed? Where do you suppose they're off to? How should we deal with them, I wonder. Address me as Exalted Antyress Redpike, Earl of Coalchester. You are not Vaati, so I will address you as Intruders, unless you can convince me otherwise."

Solrisa pauses as she sees the creatures, holding her sword after the speaking of words.

"Oh, I'm Solrisa!" Solrisa beams brightly. "We're not intruders, unless you mean that we weren't invited in here. I mean, we weren't...but we're supposed to be here. A friend of ours is here and we're trying to find him. He's supposed to help us squish all the green, icky worms and kill the bad dragons." Solrisa nods, having explained herself.

Coalchester? Anyone? Mortimer looks at the party hopefully as he emphasizes the word "Coalchster". Maybe one of us has heard of it?

He straightens his LizardHood head band.

Damn reptillian types. Have to go with the Title. You can't tell what gender they are otherwise.

"Greetings!" effuses Ascaira. "I'm Ascaira." he introduces the other members of the party, lingering on Eri a while, Boy he's really into that statue. Can't stop staring. To each his own I guess, but it's rude. We have guests!

"As Solrisia said, we're here looking for a friend. Have you seen him?" he describes Allustan.

Mortimer:

Oh yes, the lanterns. They are identical to the lanterns set in rainbow fashion in Zosiel's false tomb. These appear to have the same kind of magic cast upon them as Solrisa's blue torch, for the way the light plays. They are also chained to the floor, and actually float, as if levitating. Hard to say what happens when they are unchained from the floor.

Eidi:

You recognize this as not simply a mere salamander, but as a Noble Salamander. Still a chaotic evil extraplanar creature, which has DR 15/magic, and is, cough, immune to Fire.

Eri remains fixed in place, a wonderful imitation of the statue central to the Intersection. Paralysis prevents actual speech, so please ignore Eri's attempt at vocalizations for the next 8 minutes. Gametime, of course. He's actually a wonderful conversationalist, if you ever sit down to whiskey with him.

The Earl regards both Solrisa's and Ascaria's words, and his spear tip lowers, taking a more nonchalant body posture for the conversation. "Looking for a friend, are we? If that is truly your purpose here, I will allow for your presence. Don't loiter about. This place should be revered. It is neither museum nor marketplace. I haven't seen anyone except you recently. Where do you come from? Why is your friend skulking about? Should I be worried about your friend's intentions here? I probably should, as I haven't spoken with your friend directly."

The part about not seeing anyone in these parts recently? Yeah, that's a lie.

"We're looking for a tall elderly human named Allustan. Nice guy really, though he's very focused on his research. He was investigating an ancient tomb when he stumbled upon some sort of gateway which led him here."

"We're worried he's lost, or injured, because we haven't heard from him in a while and so we are seeking him out."

The snake-man looks back to Ascaria, his serpentine speech drawn out lazily. "I just said that I haven't seen anyone recently, let alone your old person friend. Your ears must still be rattling from the Wind Room. You should only enter conversations when your senses are fully invested, otherwise you appear unthinking." Antyress taps the side of his head with his spear tip, and nods.

"Perhaps you will find his body under a collapsed pillar, back the way you came. Perhaps he never came through this way. If he has, he hasn't triggered this walkway's alerts in doing so."

The living flame behind the Earl shifts back and forth, visible over both of the large lizard-man's shoulders at times.

Poor Eri. He looks like he's sleeping with his eyes open. Wait -- is he actually drooling more? I wonder if the smelling salts will help... But first, this. He's safe for now.

Mortimer shakes his head, and draws his attention to Antyress who so coolly ignored him.

Mortimer starts warming up his right fist by beating it squarely into his cupped left hand.

"I'd much rather punch you in the teeth than wreck this place, but I'll do both and keep beating on you unless you come clean. What do you say? Save us the trouble and your place in honor with the Vaati. Take us to Allustan. Now."

"You're probably keeping Allustan hostage, aren't you!" he shouts rhetorically. He casts Pilfering Hand CMB: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24 attempting to disarm his weapon.

(hopefully) Holding it up high, he says, ”We’ll return your weapon when you tell us where Allustan is. Now speak, and speak truthfully, Mort here has a knack for detecting lies!”

Solrisa casts Resist Energy as it starts to get hot in here.

"You should be honest. Honest is always best unless you're being tricksy. And we caught you so you should tell the truth." After casting her spell, Solrisa looks at both the fire creatures with her Dragon's Eyes.

The Earl taps his longspear on the floor, firming his grip on weapon as something startles him, stepping back reflexively. He hisses in contempt, but neither does he answer questions which are posed rhetorically, nor dignify scoldings founded or un-.

Antyress listens patiently enough to Mortimer's minute-long attempt to Intimidate, allowing Solrisa to wisely cast her Resist Energy. Ascaria's disarm attempt is allowed as a Surprise Round action.

Smoughed continues its attack, defending the Earl with its life. With the giant on fire, the elemental tries again to strike the maiden.

Solrisa, the Fire Elemental was dispatched with aplomb by Mortimer. First swing, in fact. 'Coughs out in a puff of smoke', might be foggy in its description, I suppose, but the map reflects the absence of the Fire.

Solrisa activates her booties, moves up and forward. Her armor begins to warm up from the heat of the coals and the room in general. Beginning to mark duration of time in the room...

Antyress strides forward, indignantly. His tail flashes forward, through the Wall of Fire, and wraps around the longspear. His longspear. Provokes AoO from Solrisa

"Dishonorable halfling. You are unfit to bear such a noble weapon, let alone wield it. Flycatcher?! A little help here?! We have tomb raiders about, needing extermination!!"
