Edwin Drood |
I've leveled up Edwin (FINALLY!)
But I'm being a little brain dead, and honestly can't find a useful/good feat for his 3rd level. ANy suggestions that might be good for a bard/detective?
At first level I took Agile MAnuevers & Weapon Finesse, to make him actually able to participate in combat! ;P But unless I'm going to actually become a 'whip master' or something, I don't see anything that jumps out. (And I think concentrating on his fighting would be a waste of good Bard skills?)

At this juncture, Mothy's been gone for four or more months.
I'm of course not "giving him the boot" or anything, but I think I'll use this battle to retire Castiel for a bit; it will of course prove possible at a later juncture to "revive him from his coma....."
That being said, I think I may advertise for another player; you guys seem to be a bit down in the physical combatant category. Not to disparage the brave and mighty Rholf in any way shape or form......
Just making sure that that would be allright with you guys.

hi guys. all i know as far as character creation here is 25pt buy, 4th lv, and you all need melee. should i read back into the campaign to get a handle of the general theme of things (i have never played the AP)?
basically what i would like to know is what alignments and races are or are not allowed.
would soulknife be allowed (from dreamscarred press)?

Other people in the campaign! I'm coming into this game with three concepts currently on my mind. I leave it up to you all to choose which one you want to fill Castiel's void.
1.) Melee Ranger - Probably a bit of a Van Helsing type, hunter-of-the-dead kind of thing. Haven't decided if I want to do sword & shield or two-handed weapon yet. I plan for him to be, essentially, an Inquisitor in all but name. He'll be a faithful member of the Church of Pharasma and seeks to hunt undead to extinction.
2.) Dwarven Gunslinger - Stacking Constitution and Wisdom crazy-deep without a whole lot of regard for Dexterity (since 'slingers target touch AC most of the time anyway). I'm considering the Gun Tank archetype from UC for this and would end up being pretty meaty. I'd probably give him a dwarven waraxe as a backup weapon for when things get up close and stinky. The disadvantage, of course is that a gunslinger generally DOESN'T want to be in melee... unless I go the Sword & Pistol feat chain route. That's going to take a long time to build up, though.
3.) Tank Magus - Skirnir Archetype from UC. Essentially a magus that uses an arcane bonded shield as his weapon of choice. I would probably end up taking Improved Disarm with him and leave his "main hand" open for spellcasting, using shield bash as his primary weapon. Then he can steal the swords from people and stab them right back. This one is probably the least 'tough' of the three choices (d8 hit die, CON as a secondary stat), but should end up with a fairly decent blend between offense and defense.
So.... which one do you want? :)

I think everybody's good aligned.....this AP is kinda.....a smorgasbord of classic hollywood Transylvania monsters. Kinda Ravenlofty I'd say.
I'm good with Soulknife; it's on d20pfsrd.com, so although I don't have the pf updated psionics, I'm not in left field about it.
I can study it; if it's kloogy or broken, I can handle the character probably. But, I don't think the 3.5 psionics stuff it was based on is broken.

Hi Tenro, hi Fatey - exciting to have new faces on board. I'm happy with pausing Castiel, though I still hope that Mothdude comes back soon.
Fates - the shield magus sounds awesome fun, and Alinya would love to have another arcane caster to share recondite and forbidden lore with. I also like the idea of a van Helsing style switch-hitting ranger. Not so keen on the gunslinger but that is probably some weird lurking prejudice that should be rooted out and stomped on...
Hurray! (or, to be more properer here, huzzah!)

Hey, Tenro. Hey, Fates.
I have seen good things about the DSP psionics treatment and have liked what I saw myself. The soulknife should not break things in a not-heavy-psionics game. Sounds like Heathy's up for it, too. Looking forward to the build - I have the books, but no chance to use them, so I have not seen the class in action yet.
Fatey - tough call. Castiel originally appeared to be conceived as a Van Helsing type, but the party morphed and needed to front-liner more than the hunter. With three potential hitters, I think the idea of the undead hunter could do well. Another caster is tempting considering we just went up against critters that you don't want to approach, though. The gunslinger just doesn't do it for me here, not sure why - we need the ranged attacks, but.... At a glance, that's my order of preference for the suggestions. Tomorrow, I may have a different opinion entirely.
Whatever you choose, welcome aboard!

Hi all, and thanks for the welcome. I like the psionics books, never played the 3.5 psionics (never found a group that allowed them, although i saw all the broken little combos you could pull off within the system).
Soulknife is really the best to introduce to a non-psionic game, since there arent any crazy powers, its basically a 20-level kensai.
I have another question, for the GM, on the psionics front. There is a class in their second book, called Aegis, that summons a suit of armor (called an Astra Suit) in the same fashion that a soulknife summons a weapon. Here is an example of a 1st level Aegis i made for another game that failed: Soryn. The book is called Psionics Expanded, it isn't on the PFSRD, but it is by Dreamscarred Press. Then there is a prestige class called Metaforge that sorta combines aspects of the two (in mystic theurgian fashion). If acceptable, i would probably do Soulknife 3/Aegis 1 and work towards the prestige class. If not acceptable, i will stick with PFSRD content and work towards pyrokineticist.
EDIT: additionally, the Aegis armor has points it can spend on special abilities somewhat like magic armor special abilities, and some are like eidolon evolutions in a way. for instance, for a bunch of points, i can make the suit bigger (so it would be similar to climbing into a mech-suit without the mech flavor, more like the boy from the most recent Lost in Space movie, with psionic-ey magical fields around me). I can spend a point to allow myself to breathe underwater in the armor, etc.
So if i go the route of Aegis, i will be a more versatile character, capable of damage and defense. If i go pyrokineticist, i would be more straight-up melee damage but about as squishy as a ranger.

Alright, based on player feedback, I'm going to roll with the undead-hunter. The party is already pretty caster heavy and you really need someone with beefy HP and a full BAB I think.
There's two ways I can go about this: the standard hunter-of-the-dead Van Helsing-style human I originally spoke of, or a half-orc "Hateful Rager" Barbarian archetype from the Adv. Race Guide. This would give me a d12 hit die, crazy-high damage output, and still grant me the favored enemies (albeit slighly slower) at the expense of a wider range of skills and abilities.
So... civilized Pharasmin corpse-hunter? Or undead-destroying engine of carnage? I also have a third idea that involves playing a Dhampir if we want to get a little Vampire Hunter D up in here, but I generally dislike deviating from core races.
Ragnvaldr the Grey |
I compromised with myself and settled on a concept that was somewhere between "civilized undead hunter" and "rampaging undead-destroying face crusher."
Here he is: Ragnvaldr the Grey, Oath-Sworn Warrior of the Frozen North. All that's left to do is hit point rolls (wasn't sure how you were handling those in this game).
I wasn't sure about what kind of starting wealth we were going to be playing with, so I took fairly basic gear (and haven't finished rounding out his kit in case we get some kind of goodies). The character sheet can be found in this profile. Take a look, let me know what you think and if there's likely to be any issues with this guy. Also, if you see any glaring errors, please point them out.
Look forward to joining the game soon!

I'll work something up to throw you guys into the mix; better than "hey, there's a big ass viking and a little bug dude drinking at the bar.......you want to join up with them?"
or red head elan, as the case may be......
I gotta do some stuff anyhow's, afk for a bit.
Ragnvaldr the Grey |
Buying stuff:
+1 silversheen battleaxe (2760gp)
+1 agile breastplate (1550gp)
masterwork heavy steel shield (170gp)
masterwork composite longbow (+4 STR) (800gp)
potion of cure light wounds x2 (100gp)
potion of lesser restoration (300gp)
flask of holy water x4 (100gp)
silk rope (10gp)
grappling hook (1gp)
209gp cash on hand
I assumed that things like backpack, blanket, clothing, etc. was free of cost... but I can break it down if you really want me to. :)

Dang , Fates, you work fast. Want to help me kit up my signifier?
Sure, right after dinner and perhaps a movie with the wife. :)
I don't actually have Paths of Prestige yet, so I don't really know the Signifier PrC... it's just an armored caster, yeah? I presume you've come up with some "must have" items already so uh, we can take a look at it in a bit if you're still around.
AinvarG |
I was half-kidding, but, yeah, I have definite ideas that are unique to the class - it's the more typical stuff that I'm lost on the new options.
I want to enchant the helm - it's her bonded item - but I'm not sure where to start on that decision, and game time has been little more than what it takes to post lately.

Axes don't get enough love these days. Most people who use two-handed weapons prefer a greatsword to a greataxe. Most people who use a one-handed weapon want either a falcata, katana, rapier, or longsword. You never see a good axe wielder anymore. I aim to buck that trend and score some glorious x3 crits!

yeah, i went high dex low str. so i dont do much damage but i shouldnt be missing much.
but as a small character i get more AC, so even with light armor i have 20 ac.
i am hoping this will carry me through for a few levels when i start adding fire damage to every hit and get to throw some bolts of fire around.
i built him to get up to some good damage later but mostly just to look cool. he gets a whip made of fire that counts as a mind blade in two levels, so that's cool in my book hahaha
