I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

Kinda more out than in today. I got some straightening up to do; getting some new furniture so it's a job.

And I need to read up on intimidate and whatnot.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

Damn that was a long assed day.

This game is really entertaining. I wouldn't have thought that a half-orc barbarian with a dead gnome in a sack could be a compelling character, but I've been completely proven wrong. +3 Unholy Dot of Lurking.

Guys, I'm struggling to work up enthusiasm at the moment. I don't want to bog the game down so I'm going to bail. I know AinvarG said he was interested and I feel bad when he is probably more up for it than me. So Darias' involvement in this game will be exceedingly brief, I'm afraid.

What? You can't do that! I don't have a thing to wear!

(Honestly, I'd love to join in if Aubrey's serious and if I'm actually next in line, but the last thing I intended was to push someone out.)

Bummer!

Okay, Ainvar's in....25 point buy, any questions let me know....

OK, thanks for the invite!

Question #1 is off-topic: I have a friend who is new to PBP that's trying to get into a game - I know this is a big group already so I assume the answer is 'no', but it can't hurt to ask if he can join in, too, right?

Question #2: Any suggestions from the party for character build are welcome. Any thoughts or wishes? (I'm leaning toward a paladin or an oracle at the moment, but I'm willing to listen to suggestions.)

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

I'm thinking about #1; I usually have no qualms;
the only things are with me.....
I'm kinda....unorthodox in a lot of ways, personality wise I chafe at the thought of rules and control, so I think as a D.M. "parent" I end up being more of a stoned grandfather a la Lost Boys than an extreme disciplinarian.
So that's either.......adored or reviled; there's no middle of the road way to take me, man.
and, well, I think this game's going slower than I'm used to so posting speed isn't too too crucial; if they wanna post every day or two that's cool and all.
So, I don't care;
if the rest of the group has no qualms it's all good to me; I've run with 8 before.
I think my "unorthodox" nature helps, because keeping everything really anal retentively locked down, all the i's dotted and t's crossed gets kinda stroke inducing the more people are involved.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

AND, I also kinda can tend to take a module/AP as more of a set of suggestions than a concise script.
For example, the way the module's written, Wod's.....antics can kinda potentially screw a lot of things up.
But I think it's more up to me to aid, abet, and enable these antics as long as nobody's irritated and it's producing something interesting to read and play (and giving me fodder for thought during my long commute to work).

Heath:

Spoiler:
Now that we’re down a paladin and have two clerics, I’m kind of thinking about either re-skinning Castiel as a paladin (he’s halfway there anyway), or, with Aubrey’s permission take over Darias rather than playing Castiel. Might wait to see what Ainvar wants to do first ... but what do you think?

Apparently it was inspired by Marvin (even though he’s more depressed than paranoid).

Cool - I'll share the possibility and make sure AJ has the players' guide in hopes there are no strenuous objections.

Perhaps any newcomer characters could be early arrivals, standing at the grave as the fighting starts?

Yeah; it's all good. It's....kinda foggy over there.....haven't really explained who all is over there. I'm down for whatever; depends on when people are ready to bounce.

Bouncing around ideas, looking at the player's guide, the changeling race option interests me, if only because it is a different changeling than I'm used to... Biggest downer is the penalty to Constitution, but I can work around that.

I'm leaning toward Oracle of Battle or Oracle of Life, again based on thoughts in the guide.

I'll tiptoe that way until I've got some feedback - don't want to totally commit and find out it's not cool for some reason.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

I got no problems.

I'm really tired for some reason; gotta crash.....

Got tomorrow off; on call all weekend, but I reckon I might be about during the day somewhat tomorrow.

Evening folks. I'm Ainvar's friend who's on the "maybe/hopefully" deck. Thought I'd pop in and say hello. Hope to be in the group soon, but totally understand if it doesn't happen. Planning a quirky Human Cleric, unless there is a stronger voice of reason. :)

I’m not that familiar with the oracle class, but it sounds ok to me. Oracle of Life might be quite suitable to this AP? But would probably end up quite a ‘support’ role whereas an Oracle of Battle might have a more frontline or active role.

If it makes any difference we had an Oracle of Battle in another pbp I am playing in, he was the first (and so far only) character to die, always charging into the fray like that ... Playing an oracle of battle with a race with a Con penalty might be a challenge.

Hi Angry Jawa.

By the way everyone, I am considering re-skinning Castiel as a paladin rather than a cleric. This was prompted by Aubrey’s paladin leaving us, and the fact that I have been playing Cas as more like a cleric without the combat skills to back up the attitude, NOT because of the possible influx of divine casters (the way I see it the more clerics and oracles and such the better, share the load so that the one cleric in an 8 man party doesn’t become a healbot and can actually do some of the other cool things that clerics are capable of)!

Anyway, haven’t quite decided yet, just thought I would throw it out there.

;-) A bit close to home. Work is the big struggle at the moment, nothing to do with the game as such. But I'll just hold things up and I don't want to do that.

Honestly, I like the idea of the Oracle of Life better, but was debating if an Oracle of Life and two clerics was overkill. The OoL has a lot of healing-oriented abilities that would overlap the priestly types, but I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

... OK, talked myself into it. One Changeling Oracle of Life, coming up!

dungeonmaster heathy wrote:

If you knew, you might know why they are angry. (I think it's a racial feature.)

Forsooth! I'm actually not quite sure what Jawas look like. I've never seen another, and any time I look into a mirror, it shatters. Even still water splinters at my visage.

One working theory is that Larissa (the changeling oracle) was abandoned by her adopted family when her racial features and oracle's curse began to manifest -- nothing like adopting a pretty girl with a poltergeist to call her own (there's a movie idea in there somewhere) -- and left at a foundling's home at a young age.

The home was either dedicated to Sarenrae or at least has a cleric of Sarenrae (Rholf) as one of its voluntary staff. When the good Professor heard of the haunted child and some of her manifestations, he came to the foundling's home to study her. The adults at the home, with natural concern about the professor's motivations, agreed to his study with the condition that Rholf accompany the girl so that they could be sure that the professor did not have inappropriate (or worse) designs on the poor child.

I believe Rholf is still in build mode. I know Larissa is, but I thought I would share the tentative background to allow for any necessary tweaks from those that have a better grasp of Ustalav and the AP than I might. (Based on the above, Larissa is the one with the trait connecting her to the deceased via a trait.)

Off to a preschool birthday party! Yay!

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

sounds cool.

yay. screaming birthday parties....

Some details about my Cleric of Sarenrae, Rholf Kastigarr. I'm still in build mode, but nearing completion.

Rholf sees himself as a servant of those whom he travels with, as well as a protector. His words and actions are centered around supporting and raising up his companions. He is very wary of becoming preachy in his interactions with others, preferring to demonstrate the ideals of his faith more than speak them. Rholf is not reckless, though he will immediately place himself in mortal danger to save others or keep them from peril. He is much more concerned with justice than with the rule of law, seeing justice as a more absolute ideal.

Rholf's appearance is very inconspicuous with one glaring exception. His hair has a Continual Flame effect on it from a magical mishap years ago. It has proven resistant to any removal attempts, which is fine with Rholf. He doesn't have to carry a torch, and it serves as a reminder to him of the fire in his soul. He does wear a hood at times, to keep the flames hidden, though not often.

Rholf will be taking the healing and good domains, and is chaotic good aligned.

He has been traveling with Larissa Brightfoot, and the two get along famously.

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

That sounds good too; I like the hair.

People in Ustalav will prolly think you're a necromancer though. ;)

dungeonmaster heathy wrote:

Well, I was fortunate enough to skip the party of preschoolers and just went to the family party for the preschooler. It was cool - his mother asked him what he wanted to do for his party; he said, "Sing Happy Birthday and eat cake." Now there's a straightforward plan if I've heard of one.

Someone spoiled it and brought presents, though. ;-)

called in to work....back in a few hours hopefully with "their move...."

I AM THE LORD OF ALL HELLFIRE!!!!!

and now I'm home....
and somebody has a fever now; I'm on call still; Paizo's farting up (it took like 5 minutes to let me load this crap) so between all that, I just don't think I'll be around much today if at all.
I'll try to post "their move" much later tonight, unless I'm called in or something; just didn't want anybody waiting around with baited breath for a post that might not happen for a good long time.
If Hudak, Rod, or Aleph have anything imminent to do, somebody roll it or wait; it's all good from my standpoint.
Now off to Walgreen's for suppositories.....
HUZZAH!!!

Generation X cynical? No ....

I love those movies, but that was one thing I never really got. Was Obi Wan bluffing, did he get sold a line of bull himself on the jedi afterlife, or was ‘powerful’ meant to be more like martyrdom / symbolic, rather than actual physical power?

I'm not entirely sure either; I only have the first two books of the AP but I have some ideas......heh heh. I want to invoke otherworldly. There's all sorts of weird afterlife/life/inbetweening going on about Ustalav, so I want to invoke, via the metagame, the idea that "natural law (i.e. the rules) is being supplanted here." That's one of the uncomfortable factors that leads to good horror I think.....

Cool you're going with the paladin though.
