I want to make sure we're all on the same page. Major Rowland Lawrence is an just, fair, and good npc but I don't want him to overpower situations. He pretty much can mow down most of the low through mid-level (10th) stuff single-handedly and I don't want him becoming the center piece, crutch, or answer man where it takes away from the players. I'd like to keep him secondary and in the background for the most part. Sure he can advise and help out, in fact he has a certain role (in a particular encounter) like several others if you befriend him. He's perfect to keep an eye on your local endeavors when you are out of town for instance.

Drugs, booze, and boys! Life is hard, you know?
I think that sounds great for Rowland- he can watch the ship! When we get one.
Astrianna Sparacello |
I feel bad for accidentally sending Kao to work for the Mother's Blessing. Hopefully we can encounter him again and add him to the crew, but knowing Willie he probably gave the man a job.
Adriel Mistleaf |
I wrote Neutral Good.
But the more I play him I'm thinking Chaotic Neutral with slight good leanings.
Starving kids move him for instance and he would help Hawkins as long as the action was npt suicide and he made sure Hawkins knew he owed him
Astrianna Sparacello |
It's unfortunate for Hawkins that Astri is self-centered and more concerned about impressing the commander- I actually like how this is all playing out. Astrianna gets to be a selfish attention seeker, has now decided she actually likes the dragoons, and Sorrin just got a tip about busting up the smuggling ring.
She will be much more inclined to help with that now that she wants to be on Gregory's good side and get "private lessons" from him....
She will easily be able to talk her way into revealing the supplies and the location of the drop. I suggest we pursue that once we're all back together, which with the exception of Embri should be soonish.
Astrianna Sparacello |
I doubt Adriel and Astri are going to stick their neck out that far, they just want to know if he's dead or not. If he's hanging in public like Falken was they'll try their cut and run (uh, fly) plan, but otherwise they're not besieging the fort.
Astrianna Sparacello |
The Rita seems like a good buy at this stage. We could all chip in and cruise around in it for a while with just the party plus a few npcs to watch over things.
The Baron of the Tides seems the coolest/fastest ship based on what I read in the player's guide, but it's out of our price range at the moment.
Duncan Redhammer |
A flat out rescue attempt is well...lets just say have a spare char rolled up
Yarrgh! Me plan was revield!
Well I wasn't opposed to a cut/fly deal.
Actually how I saved a painter in the Crimson Throne AP
Sath Saltblood |
Hello all- with training wrapping up soon and readying to move I find I don't have the time needed to fairly devote to this game- plus I may be without internet for awhile after I move so I will back out here- great game Baldwin, enjoyed playing with all of you but I must go for now- take care.
Sorrin the Wayward |
Sorry to see you go, Sath... Most likely character for Sorrin to bond with. Best of luck with everything.
STR... No, no, no... You're the Bard's arm candy-dandy and Sorrin is the tough guy. I got you right where I want you!
LOL!

A divine caster is important in this game. I get quite a few private inquires to join the games that I run. Adriel if you want to bring in a different character that is fine just let me know.
I'm swamped today, so I won't do anything until this evening. That will give adriel some time to decide if he wants to the divine thing. If anyone knows anyone looking for fast paced game have them PM me. I'll look through some of the more recent PMs that I get from people looking to join one of my games.
Astrianna Sparacello |
Farewell Sath- It was a pleasure playing with you, hope to see you around sometime.
Busy all of this morning and afternoon.
Embrianna |
Eh, I have my heal hex to use in combat for emergencies.
Now Astri, what we doing that we keep chasing the men away from us?
And which of us is going to sleep with Duncan?
Embrianna |
I would like to specify an actual cleric then for the recruit. Maybe one of father trafalgar's men? :)
And please require the cleric's deity to be on an alignment the rest of us can live with. No Lawful deities. :P
baldwin the merciful |
I'm of the impression an actual cleric would work best for what is coming up. No lawful...got it. I think I'd like someone using Quell as the god for the local flavor. He is CG.
I have perfect lead in and connection to the party with that deity.
Portfolio: Oceans, seas, sailors, maritime exploration and
trade, sea ports
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Domains: Community, Travel, Water, Weather
Subdomains: Home, Exploration, Oceans, Flotsam,
Storms, Trade
Symbol: Sea king seated upon a giant clam shell throne
Garb: Practical shipboard clothing in blues and grays and
long coat with a blue collar
Favored Weapon: Harpoon or trident
Form of Worship and Holidays: Equinoxes are special
celebrations of the seasons and tides with the sounding of
conch shells and the giving of gifts. Daily prayers are held
with the changing of the tides.
Typical Worshippers: Explorers, sea traders, sailors, people
that rely on the sea for their livelihood
Quell is a god of ancient Hyperborea that has found his way into the pantheon of every culture to occupy Akados since the days of that great empire. He represents the dangers of a life upon the sea and those who brave them either to earn a living or for the sake of adventure. Most major ports have a Chapterhouse of Quell where a sea priest conducts blessings upon the fleets and provides guidance of coming weather patterns. As a god of hearth and home for seafarers, the Chapterhouses of Quell also do charitable work for the poor and destitute of their
home cities seeking to ease suffering, feed the poor, and heal the sick. They only charge those who can afford to pay for their services from.
Quell has become the most prevalent god upon the Razor Coast, certainly within Port Shaw, and perhaps supplanting even the veneration of the native gods by the Tulita, such is his influence. Many Tulita that look to the sea for their survival and feel abandoned by their totem gods have turned to the worship of Quell in hopes of capturing some of the prosperity that seems to cling to the mainlander colonists.

Bowbe fits but not as well as Quell from the way the RC is written. Bowbe is in the Players guide that you can pick up for free on Frog God Games website.
Portfolio: Berserk rage, blood letting, violence
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Domains: Chaos, Strength, Vengeance, War
Subdomains: Blood, Ferocity
Symbol: Crossed Sword and Hammer of Bowbe
Garb: Furs, skins and pelts, over battle armor
Favored Weapon: Greatsword, warhammer
Form of Worship and Holidays: Great feasts and blood sacrifice precede battles. After battle, the treasures, arms and armor of defeated foes are offered to the god. Those that he doesn’t keep belong to the victors. His priests specialize in wild cursing and imaginative insults.
Typical Worshippers: Barbarians, raiders, reavers, and plunderers
Bowbe is the embodiment of barbarian wrath and frenzy. He appears as a mighty barbarian dressed in the pelt of Urson the Great Bear, whom he can summon to his side by tossing the pelt to the ground and calling its name. Bowbe carries the greatsword Bm’fob in one hand and the
warhammer Wytch-Killer in the other.
Bowbe revels in war and the slaughter of his foes. His battles against giants are legendary, as is his hatred for the undead, arcanists, lawyers, guardsmen, and most other civilized authority figures.
Unlike other gods, Bowbe aids only those who take his name in vain. Thus it is not uncommon to hear berserkers cursing their god for his indifference as readily as they curse their foes. Bowbe only grants the raising of one of his followers if that follower immediately seeks blood
vengeance against his killers. Bowbe grants no healing spells higher than 4th level.
Deity: Bowbe
Granted Power: Once per four levels starting at 1st level, you may select a foe or group of foes (be it by race, nationality, character class, or monster type), which are forevermore your sworn enemies. When encountering these sworn enemies, you may enter a rage as a barbarian of your level (though without any rage powers unless you already possess them). You may enter this rage once per day but only when faced with a sworn enemy. If you already have the rage ability, this does not count against your normal uses of that ability.
Exacting Touch (Sp): You can cast doom as a touch spell on anyone who has previously wounded you or affected you with an offensive spell using
your cleric level as the caster level. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.
Cold Revenge (Su): At 8th level, you can create the effects of a symbol of pain against anyone within 60 feet whom you have faced in combat more
than 24 hours previously. Only the selected target is affected by the wracking pains, and no saving throw is allowed. Once the effect is created, the targets distance from you no longer matters; the effects continue until you dismiss them or their duration expires. You can use this ability on multiple targets during a day but never on more than one at a time. The pain that is inflicted lasts for a number of rounds per day equal to 1/2 you cleric level. The rounds do not need to be consecutive or against the same target.
Domain Spells: 1st—true strike, 2nd—rage, 3rd— locate object, 4th—shout, 5th—finger of death, 6th—disintegrate, 7th—destruction, 8th—discern location, 9th—soul bind.
Sorrin the Wayward |
Folks, I'm the newest recruit... So, I'll abide by whatever ultimate decision the group and DM deem appropriate. I feel Baldwin's enjoyment of the game is paramount in that he puts in a tremendous amount of work and time into this.
That said, when I think of Razor Coast and pirates/privateers, I think of strategy, tactics, maritime battles, treasure, legendary beasts... Still, in my albeit feeble mind, there is room for heroism, honor, good deeds and integrity.
If this group is more inclined to whatever it is you'd categorize your predilections as... And there's going to be an overriding focus on it... I don't know if any of my characters or I would fit.
Just not my thing. And, I don't want to get in the way of anyone's fun.
