We know War is coming, but who do you think is going to be fighting?

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

While yes this can be talking about the War of Immortals, I’m more focusing on the mortal side, as noted during the reveal stream two classes are getting play tested, that are forged in the wars that spread across Golarion.

Therefore, who do you think is getting into an open war?

I mean clearly we’re seeing what might end hii ok being longstanding hostilities with the Verduran forest and its neighbors with Wardens of Wildwood, I’m thinking we’re going to be seeing another Glorious Reclamation or rather Andoran and Cheliax finally cutting loose and commit to the war that’s been building up between them since the start of 2E.

A Brevic Civil War similarly seems primed to finally begin in Ernest particularly with the demise of one of their central deities.

As I weighed in on elsewhere-

Cole Deschain wrote:

Everyone sharing a border with the Gravelands has at least a low-intensity conflict going on.

Only the presence of nastier neighbors keeps Nirmathas and Molthune in cold, rather than hot war.

Linnorm Kings vs. Irrisen is a constant low-grade conflict.

The former Worldwound is a long way from safe, and anyone bordering it has a similar problem to the Gravelands.

Nex and Geb know no real peace.

Belkzen is nobody's idea of a good neighbor.

Kyonin has an ongoing conflict with Treerazer in Tanglebriar.

The Shackles have exactly two kinds of foreign relations- People who pay them protection money and people who don't.

And then you have the "could break out any day now" conflicts-

Vidiran and the Shackles just recently won a naval war with Cheliax, and Ravounel just calved off. Safe to say Abrogail is going to look for a way to flex Chelish muscle at the first opportunity.

Brevoy is always a half-step from open civil war.

Isger is a weak, tottering basket case propped up by Cheliax. Just about anyone sharing its border could get to feeling ambitious, especially if they see Cheliax as on the back foot.

And those are just the obvious rumblings. It's equally possible that recent efforts to normalize, say, Taldan/Qadiri relations could break down, or New Thassilon could have a civil war, or Razmiran could launch a holy crusade into the River Kingdoms...

And with divine politics in turmoil, I would say just about any kind of shake-up is possible- in Avistan and beyond.

I feel like the war taking place on the level of deities means that it's less likely to be one country vs. a different country and more like "people in one country are going to be fighting people in the same country".

Like the Iomedeans in Cheliax are going to try again.

I wouldnt mind seeing a battle for Varisia! Korvosa finally making Magnimar come to heel. A multi staged war in which geo-political influnces come to play. Where villages are turned to one side or the other. Who will join who? Riddleport and Kaer Maga. How do they play? Or will Urglin and the orcs invade? Will the shoanti rise again? So much stuff there. What about a what if? Queen Ileosa was saved by adventurers and is still queen. So many ideas for that area.

The last baron holds out and cheliax finally takes that stretch of land. An evil campaign in which the players instead of fighting against the "Last Baron" save him. I ran a campaign in Falcons hollow where it all lead up to them helping the baron and trying to stand the siege long enough for Chelish forces to come.

We need a good hellknight campaign!!!

Liberty's Edge

The heavily armored ultra-disciplined bastions of complete order do sound awfully enticing as a strong bulwark against the total chaos and mayhem of a War of Immortals.

Yes for a LO : Helknights book. The timing would be perfect.

I note that in such a situation, Rahadoum can safely remind neighboring nations of the problems that following the will of the gods has led them to. And they could abandon this stupid practice, like the residents of Rahadoum. Because the gods can give orders to their priests, however, the nations of Golarion do not yet have the ability to call the gods to court so that they answer for all their crimes,

Hoping for Cheliax/Andoran to kick off, particularly since it would likely up the chances for a Lost Omens: Hellknights book. The full Hellknight archetype is going to need a tune up sooner or later, given all the law/chaos stuff in its mechanical kit that is now functionally meaningless, and my old Asmodean demon hunter oracle would like some tools for specializing in demon slaying that don't boil down to "use cold iron or play a thaumaturge".

Better yet, give me a full Old Cheliax sourcebook. I need me some diabolist options, even if they're likely to be completely unplayable in PFS.

Add my voice hoping that these conflicts lead to a Hellknights book. At minimum I'm hoping that we see a reprinting of the Hellknight archetypes in Battlecry, or whatever the book ends up being called.

I’ve been thinking Hellknights is the next faction we see get their own book, and I’m really curious what their status in the world is going to be right now.
