Ioun Stones

Rules Questions

I was under the impression you could have as many Ioun stones as you could afford and wear, then we found this...

The Ioun stones (DMG, 176) have no limitations on more than one being used, so you can absolutely do that! But they do require attunement, so unless you can attune to more than 3 items, you can only have 3 going at any given time (and no other magic items.)
so the limit is not on the stones, but the attunement.

is this outdated? if it is can you lost the link?

Thank you

This sounds like a D&D 5th Edition rule rather than Pathfinder, as that is only member of this family of games I can recall that limits characters to 3 attuned items: PF1 has no such limitation.

Yes, this sounds like a different version of D&D. At first I thought it might have been PF2.

Looks like PF2 renamed them to Aeon stones to separate from WotC.

that is correct.

Wayfinders do have a limit for resonant powers, usually 1 but one item has 2.
[slotless] is *2 cost which makes Ioun Stones not cost effective. Cracked and Flawed provide some relief.
FYI the Org Play FAQ on Anml Cmpn & Famil using ioun stones, slots, etc. note no mention of an ioun stone limit.

If you want multiple ioun stones that can't be stolen from you, check out the Ioun Spite Bracers.

Googled the quote and it's from a 5e thread on StackExchange.

PF1 Rules search order
1) AoN search
2) FAQs (click Help on website main page) or use customize google search enter "site:https://paizo.com/paizo/faq "{phrase}.
3) PFS FAQs are netted by 2 above. Campaign Clarifications is best downloaded and searched.
4) d20PFSRD (sometimes the text is edited)

Always kind of sad we don't have a way to duplicate the embed ioun stones in flash that the runelords can do.

The rules for doing that are in Seekers of Secrets. Don't seem to be on AoN, but pfsrd probably has them.

scroll down for Implanted Ioun Stones
as SoS has been out a long time (2009-10 & CRB 2009-08) this process was well known within PFS. I used it a couple of times.
This makes a certain magic item mentioned unnecessary, and now you know...

PFS Addl Resources:
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Seekers of Secrets
Everything in this book is legal for play with the following notes. Equipment: ioun stones use method 1 for resonance and never use method 2. Additionally, only normal ioun stones have resonance—inferior ioun stones never do. Advanced ioun stones are not legal for play. Prestige Class: Pathfinder Savants replace the item creation feat prerequisite with Spell Focus.

Interesting . . . I wonder how that fasting would be affected by wearing a ring of sustenance?
