Fun with inventor and overdrive.

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

What are some of your ideas on how to flavor this action? What kind of gadgets are you using to argument your attacks and how do they work?

Examples: pulling a ripcord from an inconspicuous part of your innovation as saw teeth sprout around the dangerous parts

Pushing a sequence of numbers on a keypad and unleash a preprogrammed routine of attacks

Carefully placing a rat from your pocket on a wheel somewhere in your innovation. Not sure how this one works but I promise it helps.

Dang I might steal that last one.

On my inventor I play it as a foremost where I consume the hearts of creatures I've killed and add their mana to my armor.

So my armor is made of drake scales and when I overdrive you can hear the roar of a tiger in the background. When I use explode the mana of a flame drake flows through my spine and when I sue megavolt you can see the ghostly form of a behir.

An idea I had--really a conversion for a reskinned playtest Thaumaturge chalice--was alchemically modified venomous snakes that he carried with him and would pull one out to bite him but because of alchemical changes to himself, the venom reacted in a way that enhanced his strength. On a crit fail, something had gotten messed up in the snake's formula and the venom turned to fire in his veins.

That ultimately didn't fit with the mood of the group, so I currently have an inventor with runic tattoos made from special achemical formulas all over his body. They mirror runes on his armor. When he traces a specific pattern on his arm, the armor diverts its electrical power into him.

Verdant Wheel

I google a few machine parts, then describe their interactions using their technical names.

Should have been a "101" thread...

A bio punk inventor that's hacked his anatomy is pretty cool. I imagine your bonus damage is acid.

Gives me the idea of a drow fleshwarper inventor that uses biological weaponry and armor.

Inventor is a class that I love from a thematic standpoint, but is not something I love from a mechanics standpoint; though I love the MCD. That said, I've got a few ideas for overdrive from characters Ive made when the class was in playtest:

-An Alchemy themed inventor whos innovation was an alchemical crossbow with even more weird doodads attached to it. Overdrive was releasing a special catalyst that intensified the alchemical reactions that powered the weapon, resulting in heavier damage

-An siege engineer who lost their legs in battle and used their knowledge to build themselves prosthetic replacements in the form of an exoskeleton that enhanced their abilities. It aided movement and performance through reading biological feedback and was powered by crystalized magical essence. When activated, the armor disables the limiter put on for safety, which allows for higher output. Rather than their old hammer, the character now fights with enhanced fists, and uses their incredible strength to grapple, trip, etc and batter down walls and and barricades

I did have one for what was effectively a giant mecha pilot, but the mechanics if summoner actually worked much better since the mech was supposed to be the main damage dealer, not the pilot

My weapon inverter that's a carbon copy/ripoff/homage to Nero from DMC:V revs the sword handle like it's a motorcycle in order to set the blade on fire.

Oh, that's an awesome one. :)

My Armour Inventor is kind of like a combination of Iron Man and Bane. He's built his own armour out of scrap and spare parts, with tubes and cables digging into his flesh. When I use Overdrive, the tubes inject certain liquids into my system and the cables act as extra muscles, allowing me to hit harder.
