Hmm... my muse has come up with an oracle idea. One with the shattered psyche curse. She was raised as part of a cult and they made sure that she was possessed regularly as she was growing up to cause the breaks that let her access her magic. So I'm thinking four personalities. I'll likely multiclass with some abilities focusing on of different personalities.
The one usually in control will be a contract devil.
My question - should I do multiple aliases with the same name and controlling personality in parenthesis or should I do one alias and indicate it by text?
In terms of starting, she's going to be a healer, which can be a problem in evil games.

even evil people like their health, don't they?
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 = 15 DEX
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 -2+2 = 11 WIS
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 +4 = 16 STR
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13+2 = 15 CON
Focus: 18 -2 = 16 INT
Foible: 8 -2 = 6 CHA
need to rethink this, as I just found out that the size modifier to abilities is not included in the race stat block.
I'm not sure, I can build an Alchemist with a race that has -2 Dex and -2 Int.Black Dow |
I like traits too, but some are more then half feats and I like seeing them in backgrounds. So, use additional traits feat and get more that way.
100% GM that's the reason I'm a big fan of traits - tying them heavily into background. I'm not one for picking a strong trait just for the bonuses. Would rather have a middling one that fits - 'tis the way I role.

I like irrepressible, and I assure you that I can roleplay the smugness hah, you are not charming me, Mrs. Totally-not-a-Succubus, I am charming you! Have you heard of that new fashion trend out of Dis with the sentient capes and robes? Like, I would have some security concerns about that, but it does look pretty cool, and I do not have telekinetic abilities to pull it off otherwise.

Well, evil clerics seem to be more into hurting people than healing them.

Oh, sure you can. you just have to accept that your character will suck and that the TPK is totally your fault.

Healing could also hurt - in RL played an evil priest whose healing caused pain - essentially wounds knitted together/healed but it was visceral and pain inducing for the recipient. More of a flavour thing than a mechanic but means you can "act fair" but in a foul way.
Healing could leave scabs/scars or leave an acrid brimstone stench upon the wound as it heals...
Conversely just run with Infernal Healing as your go-to.

Sounds good. I was thinking about a character who was swapped at birth into a noble family. Eventually, that family discovered the deceit and cast them aside in order to search for their true child, leading to bitterness, hatred, and a life as an evil adventurer. I also wanted to play a dwarf. And I was thinking it would be cool if the person who found out about the deceit was a royal child, thus providing a strong motive for my character to want to overthrow the royal family.
SqueezeMeNow |
After giving it some thought I think I might be the boring one who tries to play a human or worse, a kobold. Perhaps a dragonheir fighter of a red bloodline who wanted power and prestige badly enough to kill, but was found out. A man of will and a truly frightening individual.
Alternatively making a kobold sneak is supremely tempting as well. I even have one I could retool.

Without ruining the flavor and plot changes I have placed in Talengrade is run by humans completely. Any dwarven nobility would be lesser nobles who bow the knee to the throne. There is a princess involved in the plot so if you are looking to have nobility in your blood it would be minor
What about the prison chief? Possible my grave-digger was employed there, or would you prefer him to be from the cities, towns or villages from the realm? Whatever works best for your storytelling - with hindsight Wiktor's ghoulish turn would likely go more unnoticed in some backwater but liked the idea of him feeding off the corpses of condemned prisoners to further blacken his soul.

What about from a high ranking mercantile family? Or perhaps artisan retainers for one of the high ranking nobles? Could be among the human ruling classes it was quite en vogue to have dwarves or demi-human retainers/artisans working for them? Of course the bitterness and resentment that built to your dwarf caused the crime to be committed - sick of being treated as chattel and seeking to uphold the heritage of your race you wrought crimes most bloody upon them...
Spitballing ideas, but GM and Monkey God will be best placed to steer the potential :)

All the other little rich merhant kids held him down and shaved his body bald, even his beard. Nothing could be done. Deep inside the hatred grew until one day the children dunked him into the pig slop that they had mixed with their sh*t and held him in it. He woke up with one of the kids laying down with his belt knife impaled through his throat. It should have been guilt or fear or anything else but it was pride he felt. Pride

Just for the record, playing a kobold unrogue in a previous Ironfang Invasion game was a blast!
He was soooo devious and underhanded...lol.
I did think about retooling him here but wasn't certain as to kobold being allowed?
Fun times!

Okay, I think that I'm pretty set.
Certi is calm and in control, and the most common voice. She speaks calmly and reasonably, with a smooth voice. She almost convinced one of the guards to take her off for a last bit of fun before death, but this was quashed at the last minute by a supervisor. She shows the last reaction to pain.
Dellus talks and acts like an old man. There's a kindness to his voice, and he seems upset at having to watch people suffer. He quotes Mitran scripture at the guards to show that they are as much heretics as they are.
Kivler is loud and curses badly in a dozen tongues. he seems unfazed be death and claims that he came back once before, and he'll keep coming back to get revenge after his death.
Jassie is terrified and seems a bit childlike. The others are all soft to her and she doesn't seem to understand why she's being hurt.
They had a book of necromantic rituals and summoned Dellus' spirit to possess the child and try to unlock her potential, but this failed. A few years later hey tried with an angry ghost, one ready to harm the world, but this was unsuccessful. When the girl reached adulthood, the made their third try. They contacted a devil, who was willing to unlock the potential of the child for a claim on five souls. The fools didn't even negotiate. It was a simple matter to fracture her mind to let the magic in. It left echoes of the three spirits who had possessed her, but that was a problem for the future.
Sadly, the cabal had little future left. The current generation of leadership was less capable of keeping them secret and the group was taken.

Nice.
I'm thinking it makes the most sense that my character was swapped into a well off but not noble family of dwarves. Master jewelers or something. Still haven't settled on a class yet. I was looking at hunter because it seems fun, but I don't think it's very fitting.

"We tried to steal a cache of sacred weapons. Real dangerous things, including a katana of Inma, a heavy mace of Asmodeus, and even a glaive of Zon Kuthon! Should have known it was too nice a haul, but if wishes were horseshoes we'd all be shod. Abadar's Truth all we got our eyes on was a warhammer of some dullard sun god Mithralam or something. I still have a headache. That's what happens when you try to filch unused weaponry from the church of his royal uptightness Mithrum and get caught. Too bad Jen got shot. Shouldn't have told them she had more bombs. Rough sort of karma for blowing the job though. I still think that's what caused all the excitement. Jen being enthusiastic, blew a larger hole in the wall than we needed. The inquisitor said the weapon called for help, but I didn't hear it. I suppose stranger things have happened. Just our luck it wasn't the right wall. All that effort infiltrating, weeks as a wretched human, and our alchemist blows up the wrong side of the treasury. It was almost worth it just to see their faces when the potion wore off. Hey, what are you in for?"

Here's Ouachitonian's centaur. Fear his charging lance! (Well, once he gets out of this damned prison and acquires a lance...) I couldn't resist using the centaur-specific archetype for cavalier. Where else would I get to? Charging whenever possible will pretty much be his whole thing; already has Ride-By Atack, I'll be taking Spirited Charge, probably Trample and Improved Overrun (though PC-race centaurs don't get a hoof attack, so maybe not), etc. I had a hard time finding an Order I felt really fit, ended up going with Black aimyo more for the mechanics than the fluff, I doubt he's ever heard of Susumu. He's actually a Green Faith worshipper, though a particularly militant and disagreeable one (if you're human, anyway).
Here's my Tauress.

The problem I had with hunter was more just that I'm not sure I like the idea of an animal companion. It seems a little too...fuzzy. On the other hand, a slavering, white furred wolf with red eyes and a taste for human bones sounds pretty badas$ to me, so we'll see.
I was also thinking Inquisitor might be cool. Similar class, but with some other random stuff instead of a companion. It might depend a little on party composition. There are other classes I could pick too, like Fighter or Barbarian, but that doesn't sound as fun.

I'm still trying to find a suitable class for the ogre I rolled...
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
stats: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
focus: 18
foible: 8
That's well above average for focus/foible.
Ogre's get +6 str, -2 dex, +2 con, -2 int, -2 cha
+2 NA
Reach (and large)
Honestly you're fine as nearly any class. A starting score of 16 int is more than good enough to make an alchemist work, you can always prep reduce person and later cat's grace if you want your dex to jump up. At level 1 the default plan of punching things until you can pick up a sword then put on armor at some point seems fine even if you assign your foible to str. For the starting levels that +2 NA is effectively offsetting the hit to AC/Dex from being large, so put on a chain shirt and you'll be about where a level 1 character expects to be.
I think I'd go goliath druid personally, but you should be more than alright.
Think about it this way. A human alchemist with 20 point buy using the array straight out of a random alchemist guide:
Str: 12
Dex: 14+2=16
Con: 14
Int: 16
Wis: 12
Cha: 7
Your alchemist
Str: 21
Dex: 10
Con: 15
Int: 16
Wis: 11
Cha: 6
Trade your bombs for sneak attack, buy some javelins eventually, get power attack at level 3. Maybe take a martial level for proficiency and something else (rage is good, so is bloodrage). Never look back.
Wiktor Hrobka |
@Ellioti: Ogre alchemist whose essentially an inverted Jekyll/Hyde would be pretty interesting (Inspired Chemist or Mind Chemist archetypes spring to mind).
While Wiktor is a base human, trying to make him monstrous with judicious picks to compliment his ghoul bloodline. Access to a Monstrous Feat in Warren Digger adds to the flavour I hope. Plus he eats the dead...

Kib has some messed up stat scores given Kobold racial penalties and rolling a second eight, but it's really very fitting given his backstory and kobold nature.
Looking at a seven strength score and a pair of eights in wisdom and intelligence. Did end up with a positive constitution mod and a pair of eighteens in charisma and dexterity. With his effective charisma being twenty for class abilities.
I will try to have his backstory and crunch mostly done by tonight, and will post on him when that is ready. Current idea is he was taken as a slave by pirates and then arrested as one. Definately guilty though. Very very guilty.
