PaizoCon 2022 - Any hints?

I wouldn't want to be making any decisions about big stuff like conventions right now, but have there been any hints of when we might hear?

I share that gentle no-pressure curiosity!

I know from this interview that they were planning for a mixed RL/online event, on Memorial Day weekend.

Yes please! Let there be an announcement soon. An in-person convention announcement

So much for no-pressure :)

Our internal discussions got sidelined by holiday vacations, but we are back at it this week and hope to have information to share shortly. You'll just have a bit more an..ti..ci..pa...........

Someone check to make sure Tonya didn't just meet a shadowy ninja associated with a certain museum owning family...

anti-cipangocharax? That would probably help the typing speed.

I just want to make sure that I don't miss the chance to sign up as a volunteer GM. I've almost missed it a few years because the times are different every year when they announce it.

For what it's worth, with the omicron developments, I don't think an in-person convention is a good or responsible idea. I would be happy to attend a virtual con, though. :)

If it is held in-person, it should be mandatory N95s, distanced, and mandatory two doses at bare minimum. That might be enough if cases have reduced by the summer, but it's still reckless.

If they are going to require N95s, then they will need to be able to provide them -- otherwise it's another gate and hoop for folks to jump through that don't have them available or are unable to wear them for any number of reasons. And I say this as someone who's been an 'essential retail hero' since before the pandemic rolled into gear -- we STILL don't have N95 masks for work, and we're relegated to wearing four-five layers of cloth.

A virtual con would be easier on the wallet. An in-person con would allow me to meet folks I haven't seen in years at this point (no, I don't count Discord/Zoom/Skype/etc).

Of course, typing this as I'm truth in advertising currently ill kind of highlights the issue.

I crave an in-person convention, but I'd like to make sure we get to have one next year by being responsible this year.

Been going to PaizoCon for probably over 7 yearsish. One of my favorite parts is the banquet and announcing of upcoming products. Not sure how you can social distance a buffet banquet.

The rooms they host games in could easily be social distanced if the groups are small, but even at that I don't think I'd be comfortable at this stage of the panini to attend an in person convention.

Still wondering what the added bonus for those of us who had tickets for the cancelled con/banquet that didn't request a refund will be.

I also want to be in person with like minded people. At the same time I don't want to risk friends and family to do so. No clue when the penjellum will go endemic but here's hoping with the Omarion variant will push that over the edge and more people get vaccinated things can even out over the next year.

Checking in to say the shadow ninjas didn't get me (though the crud did!). Still, being out sick meant canceling our meeting, so the status update is "Still not King yet*working on it!"

*ten points to anyone who gets the reference :)

Take care of your health, and that only helps underscore the considerations involved!

Same waiting patiently lol

I am hoping they will announce the third big rulebook for his year. I think the odds are like 90% at this point. We will also probably get a lot of spoilers for the Dark Archive book. Most likely new Lost Omens book will be announced for the second half of the year. Seems reasonable to me anyways.

Oh I too am anxiously awaiting news. Nervous but possibly optimistic. Really needed some good news to start this year with. Just like most of us I’m sure that no big plans can be made quickly but I’m still pretty excited.

Well, I went ahead and requested the time off work because it is better to be proactive about these things.

Hmm

Personally, as a painfully shy person, I'm loving the virtual cons.

Would like to know. This would be my first Paizo con live.

If there is anything which the move to more online play via VTT during the pandemic proved, the demand for VTT play is there and will remain. The ability to reach FAR more potential customers via Twitch was already recognized by Paizo for many years in terms of presenting its panels to others not able to physically attend. That process began back in 2010 when we recorded and podcasted their Gencon panels.

So we know that element is not going away.

Similarly, there seems little reason to exclude participants from VTT play during a con. If there are GMs willing to run those scenarios via VTT, I am sure there will be spots. Whether Paizocon will be online only, or a mix of online and in-person gathering is the only question. Nobody is suggestion "in-person only".

Going forward, I would be genuinely surprised if online play is ever dropped by major RPG sellers at any major convention. How large that presence may have is an open question and will be governed by both supply and demand and logistics in dealing with both -- but I would be flabbergast if there is an attempt to put that Genie back in that bottle, ever.

I agree with everything Steel_Wind said. That said, I want you and anyone else to know there is definitely space at live PaizoCon for very shy folks. Lots of quiet nooks and crannies, lots of small groups. Not just the giant convention hall (which is really just tons of small groups, but it's different, I know). The slow and quiet interactions with other games just as dedicated yourself is the best thing about PaizoCon.

Thanks for the reply. Usually I have to know a new person for about a month before I say more to them than "Hi". To be able to open up and roleplay, we're talking, at bare minimum, half a year. Not really feasible for a weekend convention. Online, I can usually fake being comfortable, as I'm not actually seeing faces or in the same room.

The only negative for online people with a hybrid con is the GM pool would likely shrink dramatically, but I wouldn’t begrudge the IRL con for that. It would be great to be back to normal, even if I live too far away to make it.

It would actually be great to have a 2nd virtual PaizoCon at a different time of the year that focused exclusively on online games. Not necessarily all of the seminars; give quick preview of one new thing and let the games begin!

Does anyone know how to get ahold of paizo?I've been trying everything I can think of. And I've been emailing for a week. Just trying to figure out if I indeed do have tickets for this year, like the letter I got stated. (Which I can't find, tickets anywhere) thanks
