I know this might be going backwards but, I have 3 brand new players in my group and I want to get my hands on some OLD AD&D adventures. Pre-2nd edition. I remember cutting my gaming teeth on these adventures in the "good ol' days" of ThAC0. Does anyone know of any resource on-line I could use? I don't remember any on the names of the adventures.
This is why I have always STRONGLY encouraged all my player to come up with a little bit of a background for their characters. Why did your mage leave the library? Why did you pick up a sword and decide to fight trolls and dragons? what is your character's ultimate goal. That gives fighters and other melee characters TONS of out of character tasks. Do you make a fighter roll a Diplomacy check to seal the deal with an NPC for information? No. Have the NPC send the fighter off to beat someone up or have someone show up to kill the NPC and the fighter gets to be a hero by himself without rest of the party.
I am currently in an all mage group, and maybe I have watched too much anime but, I was wondering if there is any feat that would give us a bonus if multiple mages casted the same spell together. I just have this awesome image in my head of our group all casting fireball at the same time and having a huge explosion.
I think the bigger question is how does your DM run Sarenrae? Actually gods in general. What do you think the DM is looking for? Do they want you to go out of your comfort and write out a long wordy prayer? Do you think they would want you to gather a bunch of common folk and lead a sermon praising Sarenrae and finishing with asking for a blessing and guidance?
I have found as from a DM stand point using index cards is best way to go. Condense the cohort down to a quick reference index card if you can. All the numbers on the front, and equiptment on the back. Same with hired goon. I would assume could get away with doing same for your summoned creatures. I am willing to bet everything you summon is heavily modified from feats and templates so using the bestiary is a waste anyways
Since the DM was willing to let you run off with a sapling, I think they should be willing to work with you. As long as you are mentioning its care every day, I see no reason why the DM would have it die. Have your character track down a Druid or someone with enough Knowledge nature to give you all the correct steps.
Since this is going off the "Elves are Chaotic", let's not forget that they are also Good. In my homebrew I have an area that is called the Elven Nation while they have no ruling body or figurehead of any sort. They live together in tree hugging harmony. I give the elves a STRONG sense of community. If there is an Orc army nearby or in the world, they don't wait for a King to declare war on the Orcs, those that can take up arms and do what is Good. The only reason I see why elves would need goverment is to interact with other races.
They just cleared out the courtyard and first level of the keep. Granted the party is larger then adventure calls for, 6 players vs. 4, they are mowing through the kobolds. It is making the party a little cocky. The barbarian and ranger made saves vs harpies so they didn't last long. Wondering if I should advance the kobolds coming up, adding a warrior level.
I try to do a balance of "good" and "bad" random encounters while my players travel. I have such difficultly of thinking up the "good" encounters. I have done copper dragons looking to have a riddle contest, with gems or gold if the players win. Priests casting spells for free. Rangers giving heads up about nearby monsters. Sometimes they notice a dropped money pouch or ring. I am wondering if anyone could give me some other suggestions. |
