This idea has been banging around in the back of my head for the last 6 to 8 months. When i have about 10 minutes of free time, i indulge in thinking about this idea.
I love Metallica. Have since i discovered them way back in 1995. The black album was the first album that i listened to (and the same album that i blew out my dad's stereo speakers that same summer with the music cranked to maximum!)
But last fall, i was doing a 3 hour drive home, threw in the cd, and listened to it as i drove down the highway. Singing along, i was reminded of the titles to the songs. Enter Sandman, Sad but true, Dont tread on me, The unforgiven...all the titles sounded like adventure path titles for an RPG campaign.
so i started working on this idea. pulling, plucking, pondering.
and while it would be interesting to do a continuous campaign with this idea, i think it'd be more interesting if this was more of an anthology campaign. different characters playing in different adventures, all contributing to the main story arc.
Ive done more, but here's the first three adventure paths ive come up with. they're a bit rough, but you can get the gist.
Enter Sandman: A wizard is utilizing a bastardized version of sleep[i] on the children of a local town, and to further enhance her power, she consumes the souls of said children. the PCs must put this sandman to sleep once and for all.
Sad but true: The group discovers a new drug hitting the market, the [i]zapatroll. When drug users are discovered to be turning into zombies, the PCs must find that special cleric who can banish the undead element of the drug. side note, for 4 years, i thought hetfield was singing zap a troll in the song, not sad but true. lol!!
Holier than thou: Power and ego corrupt the cleric who saved the local community from Zapatroll. She begins to cast judgement upon others, and soon, a theological schism breaks out. Rumors abound of this new branch using demihuman blood for sacrifices and blessings.
im not even sure if i'll be able to do this. but i just wanted to put down someplace my thoughts, and share them with people who'd appreciate this idea. i dont know, the more i think about this, and the more i type this out, i think i will work more on the rest of the titles and adventures before fully publishing something. There's a continuity that's being developed between adventures, and i want to better flesh that out...

Hey Rizz, I'm only a nominal Metallica fan, But it's a great idea. Especially if it's something you want to do.
How would you include the party in on the idea? Would they have to be part of a traveling performance troupe? Maybe a four man band with a very hard edge... Backgrounds in play, one must be a performance... oh, and a roadie or two?

I really like that idea especially as I have had the same thought about different metal albums from time to time myself. Didn't do it with Metallica so far but given that they dabbled with Mythos in several of their songs, it's kinda obvious (in hindsight) that you can do it with their songs as well.
Also, Zap a Troll had me laughing out loud :D

Kill 'em All is either when a monster horde descends and the players have to fight overwhelming numbers (think 300), or the follow up to Holier than Thou, where the religious schism has lead to a fanatical sect bent on domination, and the players must destroy the entire cult to the last man.
Kind of. The god that failed fits this more so

it's a re-doot....to awaken something... to ponder something anew...
Low hanging fruit: DIO... anything by RJD.
Holy Diver
Dream Evil
The Last in Line
Lock Up the Wolves
Don't Talk to Strangers
Evil Eyes
Killing the Dragon
The adventures practically write themselves.
Full transparency, I actually built an adventure based on the Dream Evil album cover featuring the little girl in the bed, the doll (thank you Soulbound Doll) below the window, and the demon seen through the other window.

This reminds me how the Bastard!! manga/anime has numerous characters, places, and even spells based on rock/metal bands, musicians, and songs. Turning songs into actual plots is a great use of inspiration! Definitely something I would love to play in.
