I've been getting Error 500 (Internal Server Error) on the main page since last night (I'm on Firefox 82.0.2 on Windows 10.)

The error code is accompanied by a picture of a ysoki/ratfolk tinkering.

Anyway, the menu banner (with search and links to my account and cart) still appears and I can browse the shop and the forum, but the main page content (the big ads about upcoming stuff, and anything else on that page) at paizo.com isn't showing.

Using Firefox 82.0.2 with Windows 10, I'm seeing the home page (https://paizo.com/) without any problems.

All buttons work, and link to the expected pages.

I'm running FF 82.02 on Windows 10 and got the same error on the homepage, though it worked if I navigated to it from the Pathfinder homepage.

This has been broken for many people for almost a month now on various browsers.

Reminds me of a time several years ago, when a small ISP in Australia pushed a router update that broke another site I was active on.

It took forever to figure that out.

You folks might want to post your ISP and what country/state you are in in that other thread.

Same here for weeks. Hoping that Paizo can at least say "We hear you and are looking at it". Literally just that sentence is fine. The weeks of silence is weird.

Per CrystalSeas' point:
Browser: Firefox and Chrome, even with addons/extensions turned off.
ISP: Comcast
State/Country: Oregon, USA

Browser: Firefox 82.0.2 (64-bit)
OS: Windows 10 Pro
ISP: Suddenlink
Location: West Virginia, USA

There's my info, if that helps. I'd have been more specific as to which update of Windows 10, but I'm not sure where to look to get that information anymore.

As long as I still can navigate the site to browse the forums and the store and my account, cart, order history, etc., I'm doing fine. Back in the day the main page actually had some links on it that meant something (including the store blog and some sidebars) but now it's basically a bunch of poster ads anyway, so I guess it not displaying doesn't matter that much to existing customers. It's probably really off-putting to potential new customers though.

It's also worth noting that it was working fine for me within the last week, so it hasn't been an ongoing issue for me until the last few days. It seems I only recently became part of the affected group.

I have little/no issues when navigating the forums or blog. As noted up thread, issues *periodically* when I try to navigate to other parts of the site. I have never NOT been able to get to where I want to go...sometimes need to reload or navigate to the page from a different path. The issues are consistently...inconsistent. :/

On two different computers, using Chrome on 1 computer, Internet Explorer on the other computer, and Microsoft Edge on both: I get the Ysoki mechanic picture on a signed out page whenever I attempt to visit the page with the new PF2 errata. Both of these computers have Windows 10.

I will update or reply to this posting if I am able to get anywhere going through an incognito link, as I only know how to do that with Chrome, which is not on the computer that I currently have access to. Signing off the Paizo site and then signing back on did not work via Internet Explorer.

I'm getting this as well. I notice I get it on these pages:

Home page
https://paizo.com/

Pathfinder > Beginner Box
https://paizo.com/pathfinder/beginnerbox

FAQ
https://paizo.com/pathfinder/faq

What I've discovered though is that I appear to be signed out on those pages. Instead of saying "My Account" in the upper right, it says "Sign In." And also, once I'm in that "broken" section of the website, those pages all load without error if I jump between them. For example, if I go to the Pathfinder menu and choose Beginner Box, I get a 500 error in the lower part of the page. But if I then click the Purple Golem to go to home page, I can see the home page. And from the now working homepage, if I go the Pathfinder menu and choose Beginner Box, I can see the Beginner Box page. I'm still not appearing as signed in on any of them, and if I go to a "working" section of the site and back to the home page, it shows the 500 error again.

I have no idea if that is helpful at all, but thought I share in case it was.

What OS are you using? What browser version are you using?

What ISP are you using? What state are you in?

I encountered the same problem on the Starfinder COM FAQ page.

I forgot to try incognito mode in Chrome when I would have been able to last night. I may have a chance this afternoon.

I am getting the same issue when I go to the main homepage, to the Pathfinder landing page, to the Pathfinder FAQ, or immediately after I log in. It does, strangely enough, let me get at the forums, and from there I can get to (for instance) my Downloads. I also see the same behavior that Hawkmoon269 mentioned, where once I hit a broken page, I can navigate to other pages by using the menu successfully, but not if I go directly to the URL.

ISP: Verizon
OS: Windows 10 (1909)
Browser: Firefox 82.0.3

I also tried this in Chrome (86.0.4240.198) which encountered the same error. Strangely enough, MS Edge (86.0.662.69) worked just fine until I log in, at which point it hits the same error.

I continue to get this same error no matter what I do. I have cleared cookies, tried incognito mode, everything. It is affected the FAQ/Errata pages and even times where I try to log in at all This is frankly ridiculous. I happens on firefox, edge and chrome.

I've been getting this error for a few days and can't seem to sort it. I'm using Windows 10 and Chrome and I'm in the UK

I've been getting the "Error 500" for months at this point. If I clear my cookies it is fine, but as soon as I log in most of the pages on the website die (except for the navigation header). This error affects every browser and even my phone.

I am also getting this error on Google Chrome, but when I put on anonymous window, everything is fine

If you continue to have this problem make sure you clear the cache for the website and your cookies. That solved it for me (on Firefox).

Clearing cache and cookies only resolves it for me until I log in again. Once I'm logged in, a hand full of pages give the 500 error. However, once I'm on a page giving the 500 error, if I navigate to any other "broken" pages, they load, but I notice the site is treating me like I'm not logged in (the header has a link to Sign In instead of My Account).

I've just cleared cookies and cache and it does nothing for the error. This is getting a bit silly now. It's the only web site I am having this issue with

I am having issues with Chrome (latest build) but it seems to work for Edge (latest build).

Yeah, I've had the same issue since Saturday. I've tried chrome, IE and edge all with the same issue. I've cleared all cookies and cache without success.

Using Edge, I think it's called Chromium. Getting ysoki error since last night.

Any help would be appreciated.

One other thing that sometimes helps is to reset your router.

That will clear the router cache.

This is on my desktop computer which is hardwired into the modem.

And resetting the modem didn't help either?

I'm not having any trouble reaching Paizo using Edge. So it's not that Paizo's computers are down, and it's not that Edge isn't compatible with Paizo.

There's something else going on between your computer and Paizo's computers. Hard to diagnose from either end.

Do you mean turn it off and back on again? Just tried that, nothing.

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

The worst part is, there's a link to click if you repeatedly get the error, and then you get a "This content is blocked" message!

Hilarious and sad at the same time.

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

By the way, I checked, and I'm getting the same thing on my tablet and phone.

Yeah, still same error here. Starting to drag into months. Sure, I can open a private window, or log out and clear my cache, and it works. Then it fails again when I log back in.

Yeah, this just started for me today. It is definitely on Paizo's end, but heaven only knows what piece of code is doing it. Tried both Edge and Chrome on Windows 10. Works fine when I log out, hits hard back when I log in.

Yep, this is my experience as well. I can sort of fool it so I can get to most of the website content. To see the errata, I have to open an InPrivate window.

Having a similar problem since yesterday on the Chrome browser. Was hit and miss with Firefox. Clearing cookies and browser history didn't seem to help.

Try this as well. Select the Secure Icon and Site settings.

Clear data under cookies and Reset permissions.

Where do you do that?
Okay, I figured out how to do it, and it worked until, that's right, you guessed it, until I signed in.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

This has happened to me for about a week. It was working previously from the same browser/computer/ISP combination. I do not believe this has anything to do with personal settings and has everything to do with the signed in account.

The 500 Internal Service Error (ISE) occurs for me

1. When I attempt to sign in or have not cleared cookies from a previous attempt to sign in (but only on certain sections of the website)
2. From multiple networks (over VPN, from nearby wifi networks)
3. From multiple browsers in private/cleared cache modes (I have only tested firefox and chrome)
4. From multiple operating systems (macos and windows 10), including a brand new docker container image I spun up just for testing with no security settings and no blocking/filtering of any kind

I suspect something is wrong with paizo's user authentication data for specific users, but that is speculation. It is, however, very interesting that it works for forums but not for, e.g. my digital downloads.

Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

I've been having an issue logging in, the site tells me that it's having trouble, but if after I make that attempt and select the forums, the site loads and shows me I'm logged in.

However, even logging out, clearing cache and cookies as well as an isp flush via the command window doesn't seem to change this awkward unplanned design feature.

I'm on Firefox 78.6.0esr, Windows 7 SP1

I love my windowed windows and cannot use Win10's non-windowed windows they give me a migraine.

EDIT: My Fire tablet logs into the site without a hitch.

I have also been having this issue for at least a few weeks now. Firefox 84.0.1, Windows 10 OS Build 19041.685, Spectrum, Kansas. Finally came on here to see if it wasn't just me and am fairly dismayed that it's been well over a month with no official response. Even if they're having a hard time rooting out the cause of the issue, a simple, "Yeah, we're aware of the problem and are working on it" would be nice.

Loki_Thief wrote:

It might not be something they can work on.

Particularly since people with the same OS and same browser are NOT having a problem. When that is true, there's nothing Paizo can analyze, since they can't recreate the problem.

I, for example, am on Firefox 84.0.1, and Windows 10 OS 19041.685, exactly the same as what you're reporting.

Yet I'm not having these issues.

So what is Paizo supposed to say if they can't reproduce the problem and it's not actually a problem for some of their customers using the same software to access their site?

It might be anti-spam software your ISP is using, or even antivirus software installed on your computer. And anti-virus software that screws up Firefox on your computer might not cause any problems with Chrome. There are hundreds of hardware or software components that might be different between my computer and yours; my ISP and yours.

If the problem is not consistent and if Paizo can't recreate it using their own computers, then they won't be able to say "we're working on it".

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

Given that multiple people have stated that they're not experiencing problems with any other websites, it's highly probable that the culprit for this issue is somewhere on Paizo's end. Even if it's not affecting everyone, it's happening for a large enough number of users to make it a serious problem. I understand that problems like this can be difficult to suss out, but even if they don't have a solution right away, they could at least say "we're not sure what's going on, we'll continue to look into it". That would still be better than complete silence.

Is anyone else seeing an improvement?

Nope. But there are workarounds.

CrystalSeas wrote:

The IT department can log in from their smartphones or home computers to see what the outside world sees.

Sure, it's not ideal that they use their personal devices for work. But apparently the alternative is "have the website be down for months" so at some point someone with budget authority is just going to have to authorize a $100 device and a $5 coffee from Starbucks to log in from an outside Wifi system so they can figure it out.

It's absolutely clear that this isn't a single user's problem, it's not Windows' problem, it's not a browser problem. It may not be Paizo's problem either, but Paizo is the entity with the most to lose by having logged in customers losing access to most of their website, so ... yeah, capitalism.
