Combat uses for Lyre of Building? Let’s be creative.

Silver Crusade

By the numbers, the item allows for 8 hours of work by one human per round.

What would you do with that assuming you had any materials you want nearby, such as in bags of holding? (Assume mom ey is not an issue, so you can have a lyre for each combat over a whole week.)

How could you help overcome different challenges including swarms, traps, invisible spell casters, ranged attackers, melees big and bigger, and all other things?

I know I am not answering your question, but I once allowed my players to craft a Lyre of Building. I knew it was powerful, but never again. Never. Ever. Not even a little bit.

GMs take note, this relatively harmless sounding thing makes most broken powerful things look under powered.

The obvious answer would be to create barriers that would shape the battlefield.

In seige combat, a Lyre of Building makes your castle/ship/covered gallery immune to all damage.

Acquire a Decanter of Endless Water, and use the Lyre of Building to transform the geyser of salt water into a geyser of Acid.

Undermine fortresses.

If you were a GM, how would you handle players undermining and/or collapsing an area of a dungeon?

How about walls appearing around enemies in the middle of combat?

Walls appear around enemies in the middle of combat all the time. We have spells just for that.

Pits appear via magic all the time, too. Not hard to apply it to a larger scale.

The Lyre of Building requires one check per hour, giving you the work of 100 men working for 6 days, per successful check (so per hour)... if combat is still going on an hour later, then I suppose we have the opportunity to use the Lyre of Building in combat.

Now, what would I use it for?

Erect giant statues of the enemy leaders in really compromising positions... with each other.

The problem with this (and other similar) magic items is that it allows PCs to be creative. Creativity is the bane of a well-crafted module.

Pre-combat, it could be used to prepare a battlefield. No longer will armies need to maneuver to find high ground, a river on their flank or a dry field for cavalry... just play the lyre and let them come against your walls and moat in the middle of nowhere.

Nothing says the work has to be done well. It might in fact be fantastically shoddy, roof beams barely supported, posts wobbling already, any violation of code you can think of...then you or someone casts gust of wind. Bonus points if the caster is a canid or polymorphed that way.

Die little piggies DIE!

Wait... what? Lyre of Building makes buildings; Decanter of Endless Water produces either fresh or salt water. Where do the two, working together, make acid?

Is this because Fabricate is used in the construction of the Lyre? If so, I don't know that I'd let my players use it this way. The device SIMULATES the Fabricate spell specifically for large-scale constructions.

Now, taking a half an hour to build a mine whose entrance was immune to damage for half an hour gives you a nice choke point to force an enemy warband to attack you 1 at a time, so that's kinda nice.

To make water acidic, Wikipedia says add iron(II)sulfate to rock salt in an aqueous solution. What page are those on in Ultimate Equipment?

If Wikipedia says that, Wikipedia is wrong.

I mean...not really

It just requires assorted heatings strainings and everything else like every form of chemistry

I suppose you could make some sort of giant (al)chemical apparatus, but it'd be easier to make a giant fire trap and light a match.

Can a Lyre of Building make a modern chemical plant capable of pumping sulphuric acid and high-pressure NO2 at 700°C? It appears to be limited to "buildings, mines, tunnels, ditches", though maybe a sufficiently high Knowledge-Engineering roll might do.

thats the modern mass production method, they made sulfuric acid in like the 1600's and there's for sure that level of tech in some countries in pathfinder.

that said i wouldn't say it works in time to be useful mid combat, but if you had that knowledge engineering roll you could probably make an immobile machine that creates it.

Rather than undermine the enemy castle, use it as a source of material to build your own walls from theirs. That causes their walls to disappear while you place new walls where you want.

You can also build up a ramp up the wall if the GM won't let you use their walls that way.

You can build a solid wall all around their castle to starve them out.

As to use in combat rather than before combat, it is a lot harder to use.
