The Society provides Starfinders with starships as needed. See the Starfinder Society Starships document (included as part of the Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Guide download) for more information on how starships work in the campaign.
It looks like the starships were intended to be included as a separate PDF in the zipfile, but whoever packaged it failed to include both PDFs.
Might I suggest Community Use packages might be more appropriate since that's where pregen sheets are found? Or at least upload it there, too?

So about the season boon...
* Does the character buying the boon need to have 4 fragments on that character?
* Do you need to have all 8 fragments on the same character to get the max benefit? We were previously told that wasn't required, and given the levels of the adventures involved, it was very hard to do so. Some fragments came in a 7-10 scenario and the next fragment in a 3-6 scenario.
* If you gain more fragments after buying the boon, can you change your choice? (Probably not.)

* Does the character buying the boon need to have 4 fragments on that character?
It does seem to read that way, and it makes sense - why would a character who hasn't participated in those adventures be able to receive that boon?
You can always use the SS:J "Seeker of Knowledge" replay boon if your segments are too spread out. Or GM them!
I really like this part. It gives extra credit for GMs (ie, many of us have two copies of all 8 chronicle sheets already) and encourages the use of the "Seeker of Knowledge" boon for its thematic purpose; revisiting the sequence of events leading to and resolving the scoured stars incident.
* Do you need to have all 8 fragments on the same character to get the max benefit?
I don't believe so, consider this text:
A player’s possession of Journey to the Scoured Stars segment boons can be across multiple PCs, but a specific numbered segment counts only once toward the player’s total number of segment boons.
But I agree with you the text is somewhat confusing, especially in the dual meaning of "you" and "if" instead of "when", eg "You gain 1 extra Resolve Point. If you’ve collected all eight segments, then this increases to 2 Resolve Points."
In which case is "you" here the character or the player, and "if" indicates a condition evaluated when you purchase the boon for a character, where "when" would answer your next bullet cleanly;
* If you gain more fragments after buying the boon, can you change your choice? (Probably not.)
This would make sense but great to have official clarification.
Since it only adds to the benefit, not changes or really a "choice" - I'd guess that if you have the boon purchased for a character and you later receive more segments then the PC(s) you've already applied it to get the greater benefit.

I've finished perusing the new Guide and on the whole I'm pretty happy, it's pretty clear and the amount of near-duplicate or almost-identical information seems to have gone down. I have a few more issues....
===
Resolving conditions for pregens (page 7-8)
The Roleplaying Guild character must contribute a number
amount of credits to cover the costs before using any of
the pregenerated character’s wealth (...)
* Can other players pay the "death tax" for you? If your level 2 character has trouble paying a level 8 pregen's 3,300 death tax for example, can another player pay the first 3,300 credits needed for condition removal, before then accessing the pregen's wealth to pay remaining costs?
The Roleplaying Guild character may spend Fame to help
offset the credits cost of raising a pregenerated character
from the dead.
Can other players also contribute Fame?
Page 19 forbids pooling Fame; but can one other player contribute all Fame used?
If more resources are needed to pay for the cost of the
services, players at the table may—but are not required to—
contribute some of their own credits.
Can other players choose to contribute even if you could potentially pay yourself, by selling all your gear at 10%? Getting friendly help seems preferably to the crippling inefficienty of selling back gear to pay for condition removal.
===
Downtime AP / campaign mode credit
Campaign Mode: For sanctioned Adventure Paths, GMs are
allowed to use their own rules for character creation and running
the presented content (the entire book or series). Credit is applied
to an appropriate Roleplaying Guild character as if the character
created were a pregenerated character.
Downtime: Pregenerated characters can participate in Downtime
activities as long as they have the appropriate skills to do so. See
Appendix 4: After the Adventure on page 45 for more details.
How do you resolve downtime for characters receiving "pregen" credit from an AP in Campaign Mode? Do you use the abilities of the character in the AP, which might not follow normal (Starfinder) rules?
Would it not make more sense to allow the character receiving credit to have downtime, including using downtime related boons, just like a character receiving GM credit?
===
Filling out chronicle sheets
Step 11: You can make additional purchases between the end of
your session and the beginning of the next session. Make a list of
these purchases before your next game using that character, and
present them to the GM of your next scenario before that game
starts. Your GM will mark these purchases as part of the subsequent
Chronicle sheet, though they are considered to have been purchased
prior to the start of the subsequent scenario.
The preceding 10 steps have been instructions to the GM, this is a strange switch to a player-facing instruction.
The filling-in process is still very back and forth:
(1) GM hands the players blank chronicles; they fill in some preliminary stuff.
(2-7) The GM fills in a bunch of stuff
(8-9) The player fills in more stuff
(10) The GM checks the final sheet and signs off on it. (Does not actually hand the sheet to the player when done?)
(11) "You" (the player?) now makes additional purchases, with no particular instruction on where to record them.
We've had many discussions on the forum about how unrealistic it is that tables - much less online tables - follow this roundabout process. What's the point of writing rules into the guide that won't be followed in practice?
===
GM Rewards
The GM can select any special boons bestowed by a Chronicle
sheet. Boons for specific faction members may only be selected if
the character that is receiving credit also receives Reputation for
that faction. The GM’s character receives Downtime (see page 45)
and spends it upon applying the Chronicle sheet.
This doesn't stop a GM from getting both boons if a scenario could normally result in only one or the other outcome (1-27) or getting a boon for which the players would have had to cross off a different boon (1-14). I appreciate that the GM's results are independent of the choices made by the players, but it doesn't seem right that the GM can get impossible results.

On second reading, I think it boils down to:
Requirements: Tier 3 with All Factions, this character has 4 chronicles with Segment boons on it.
Benefits: depending on how many unused Segment boons you have on all characters, gain a shiny. Reduce your pool of unused Segment boons by the appropriate amount.
The question still remains what to do with the "if you have X segment boons instead do Y"; do they update? What if you have since bought a second instance of the boon for a different character? Do they fight over segment boons?

I read it a little differently.
Any player can purchase this boon if they meet the prerequisites listed below.
That sounds like the player (not the character) must meet the prerequisites.
Prerequisites: All Factions Tier 3; at least four of the Journey to the Scoured Stars segment boons.
Prerequisite #1 is "All Factions Tier 3". Section 10 of the Guide lists 5 Factions; that seems like a good method to define "All Factions." This interpretation ignores the Minor Factions which I believe is a good thing. It also allows the player to reach Tier 3 with either Seconds Seekers (Luwazi Elsebo) or Second Seekers (Jadnura) without requiring both.
Prerequisite #2 is at least 4 of the 8 segment boons. I think that applies to the player. It applies even if no individual PC has four boons.
Example: I have all 8 Segments. I have four PCs that are Tier 3 or higher in 4 of the 5 Factions. My -705 character has 16 Reputation in the 5th Faction; once my -705 reaches 25 Reputation (Tier 3), then I can start purchasing these boons for my PCs.
Then the first character can purchase for 8 Fame and as many others I desire can purchase for 24 Fame. Since I (the player) have collected all 8 segments, my PCs get the benefit of collecting all 8 segments.
This is certainly a powerful boon with all 8 segments: +2 Resolve Points, +2 hit points per level, +1 to all saving throws, +2 to one ability score.
Frankly, this seems to be a much too powerful boon for every PC (once they have 24 Fame to purchase it) to have.

Disagree.

Having now read the actual text of the boon, I see that it uses the word 'immediately.' To me, that means no retroactive changes to characters who bought it if you later gain more segments. You might later gain more segments and then be able to apply to more powerful version to a new character (at the 24 Fame price).

Hmm. On reading again, I'm stuck between two ways of parsing it.
Option A:
Suppose I have 14 chronicles with segments on it. I buy the boon for one character. He gets the powerful variant and now I have 6 segments remaining. If I also buy the boon for a different character, he only gets the 6-segment benefit. If I wait and GM some more and then apply the boon, he could get the full 8 benefit too.
Option B:
Each segment number counts once for counting how many segments you've discovered. So it doesn't matter if I have Segment #5 once or three times, it always counts as only one segment. However, the segments are not split among characters that get the boon. So if I have all 8 segments and I buy the boon for one character, I can still buy it for another character and also get the full benefit (just at a higher cost).
I think option B is the correct reading. It also removes an incentive to grind segments to get the full 8 for each character using Jadnura replays.

I'm on my weekend, but since this is just devolving into #RampantSpeculation
I'll make an official post later when I'm not alt-tabbed from a Warframe run :P
For now. This is a player-based boon. It can be applied to _any_ character. There is only one version of this boon per player (Playing or GMing ). You also apply the effect IMMEDIATELY and it does not grow if you later collect more (choose activation time wisely).

But the last line of the boon says what it costs to buy it a second+ time?

I think he is just saying the boon functions the same regardless of how the Journey boons were acquired (although I agree this is a little odd, since I don't see anyone questioning that).

This doesn't appear to be a change, as it was in the previous version, but I just noticed it:
Select your character’s race. The choices offered in Chapter 3 of the Starfinder Core Rulebook are always available, as are the Legacy races in Chapter 13. Additional races may be available if they are listed in the Additional Resources document, provided you own a copy of the appropriate source book. Alternatively, you may play a race provided by an appropriate adventure appendix printout. Other races are available as campaign boons; the Chronicle sheet on which such a boon is listed must be the first Chronicle sheet applied to a character.
Does this mean that the characters included in adventure appendices are considered always available? These appendices seem to always be part of the campaign boons/Chronicle sheets mentioned in the last sentence, so I am not sure why it is listing the appendices as distinct from them.

Thanks for the (mostly) positive feedback on this, folks!
I admit, I'd wanted to get an accompanying blog post out that highlighted some of the changes, rather than have you folks need to dig. That's on me, and I'll see what I can do about getting some follow-up on it in the nearish future.
I believe y'all have uncovered most of the key changes, though one addition that I really want to highlight, is that we've now updated the various faction missions, as well as included a "Story So Far" that leads right up into Season 2. I know this is something that the fanbase has been asking for, and I wanted to make sure it got included.
Enjoy!

Even with one of them being 'allowed' to be Online, it's still significantly pricy and a horrible gate to folks who have probably spent at least ten times that in invested time/expenditures.
And no, I'm not exaggerating the amount of money it might cost a GM to get to the '5 Star' level.
One of the *many* reasons I don't push for anything like that anymore. Burnout is a cruel, cruel way to lose one's love of the game.

A changelog would be neat, but honestly, I am quite unhappy with the "Story so far" section as it spoils 2-00 a scenario that was not available to run on my continent before the publication of the guide.
Pact World Warriors avoided any spoilers, and I really don't see why the events of this special needed to be in there if the new season focusses on a new threat.
Players and GMs of 2-00 have been great, I had literally seen 0 spoilers before I had seen the guide.

Ok, so back to the first post of this thread -- where should we download the new starships PDF?
More information on these boons and customizing ships is presented in the Starfinder Society Starships document.
STARSHIP
The Society provides Starfinders with starships as needed. See the Starfinder Society Starships document (included as part of the Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Guide download) for more information on how starships work in the campaign.
This seems to imply that the zipfile was intended to have a second file in it, however it contains only one file:

As a capstone boon, does that mean if you get the seasonal boon, you cannot get any of the faction capstones for the same character?
I was just looking at buying the Year of the Scoured Stars Season Boon and realized I had the same question. The text clearly says this is "a single Capstone boon associated with Season 1."
And page 38 says "A character can purchase only a single capstone boon during his or her career."
I don't know if this is the intention, but the wording does mean that any character that buys the Year of the Scoured Stars boon can't buy another capstone.
(It also means that a character who got a faction Capstone boon as a starting boon from another character can't buy it either since "A new character receiving the benefits of a capstone boon can only ever benefit from one capstone boon.")

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
So wait, if I were to, say, buy Alien Admittance on my Shirren Envoy Wayfinder, even though that character benefits from that boon in no discernable way, I could not buy the seasonal boon because I already "Purchased a capstone"?
Then that would mean my rising star, my mechanic who participated in like 5 of the 8 parts by himself, could not take the seasonal boon?

BigNorseWolf wrote:why would you buy alien admitance for a shirren? They bought the Capstone boon on their shirren so that it could apply to a new character?
Right, but the shirren that can buy the capstone boon can't also be a new character (they need to be a minimum of what, level 8?) so they can't benefit from a capstone boon anyway

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

When Sean said "buy Alien Admittance on my Shirren Envoy Wayfinder" he wasn't suggesting that he's buying Alien Allies FOR the shirren; the shirren is the one doing the buying.
Example:
A Shirren envoy is Tier 4 with the Wayfinders. He buys the Alien Allies capstone so that he can start a new Ghibrani character. He isn't buying it for himself. However, the Shirren envoy now can't buy the Season Boon because "a character can purchase only a single capstone boon during his or her career."

The rule in question doesn't care who's benefiting. It cares whose fame was used to buy it.
