One day of work then I go for my mini vacation.

Sabaton!

The Exchange

More run shenanigans. I did do some warm up and rudimentary stretching, still got knee a little achy at 14km mark, started trying to cycle my knee more and try to land on balls of feet. Seemed to help.

I hate running. My left knee was damaged when I was about 17 and most of the time it is ok but running on it for any amount of time hurts like crazy.

The Exchange

Uh I think you don't want to be too heavy when you run or you really run into problems (pun intended). For your cardio you're probably better off on elliptical/rowing. There's this guy at nerd fitness who can lift like fk, but complains the treadmill kills his knees. I think it's one of the drawbacks on getting urm... Too upper body heavy. I doubt Dwayne Johnson would be much good at running either. He might make a good sprinter though. There was this big sized guy yesterday who sprinted ahead of the pack in fitness class.

Gimli: I'm wasted on cross-country! We dwarves are natural sprinters! Very dangerous over short distances!

I hate running. Buts is such an effective work out.

I've been doing Taekwondo and boxing for cardio lately. I prefer it massively over running. Yoga is another one that can just completely exhaust one. I haven't done that for awhile unfortunately. I used to box with a friend of mine guy he is 6'5 So it's incredibly exhausting but rewarding. He tapered off once he had kids. Every time he took a step back I had to take two steps forward it felt like. Made for a great work out.

I don't have the energy for running, but I don't mind a one or two hour walk.

A one hour walk is completely beyond my capabilities now. I'm doing good to get a 15 minute one in with the dogs. Between my back, my knee, and my weight it's impossible.

My other half gifted me the pull-up bar we'd failed to install at her house today, so I put that up and had a go at it as a sort of aperitivo for rapier practice.

I don't run but I am going to be walking more now that my neighbor below me wants me to walk his dog 'mid-day" starting October 9th. The good news is I just have to do on the week days. :) Plus his dog, a black Lab, isn't a terrible dog. I mean I've not met that maybe 'bad' Black Labs...but still!

Also chocolate.

I have somehow managed to complete Ascension level 11 with all three characters in Slay the Spire. It's getting quite difficult.

You don't need to run for cardio if you don't want to. If you want to finish some road race with decent timing then you do. Though my uncle could probably put some run-walkers to shame with his leet race walking skills, which is probably more practical to pick up for heavier people.

Swimming/cycling are all good cardio workouts that don't involve running.

And grats, Gran on the slay the spire achievements! I still can't finish silent to get to the heart, but again the saviors of uldum hearthstone expension has been keeping me busy.

Yeah I can't really do pull ups much, but they're good for hanging leg raises(I'm trying to train that so I can shimmy up ropes better), and deadhanging from.

I didn't know you did martial arts Vidmaster7! Yoga I use it mainly for recovery and flexibility training. Not so tiring per se unless you were doing Vinyasa style yoga?

Yeah boxing is also Cardio but may not be so easily accessible since you need a partner and equipment(gloves??)

I'm considering waking up at 4.30 am in the morning to do a 5 am half marathon on a working day(Weds), as the gym I go to for body combat is in the process of moving and I don't know its new address yet. I am also short of time this weekend for a long run, unless I care to run on a Sunday afternoon which is mother fking hot. I suppose it is a tad risky as I may end up hopping to work, but the last 19k run was fairly manageable and I managed to hold off the yoga session until later in the day.

I would be happy to learn to give it a few swings.

You'll have to come to Pittsburgh. I don't think that I'm allowed to bring it into Singapore.

Its not that Im looking to be able to run a lot. But since I'm more of an endurance person (looooooooooooong walks), going running ups my metabolism a lot and I feel like dying. And it burns a s%+~ ton of calories.

I hate it, but its cheaper, and probably more effective then going to a gym.

You cover distances a lot faster while running then walking =P I'm a slow walker so I basically move at double my walking pace once I start running. So that road I've always wondered where it leads to? I can run down it and back. Won't take very long.

But have you tried cycling or swimming (maybe not the best of ideas since it's winter), yet?

You can rev up your metabolism by doing some body combat/tae bo that you YouTube, or even have a zumba dance party at home.

The Exchange

And gyms have their uses. If you're looking to get toned, you need to preserve or even look to increase muscle mass. That's when all the weights in the gym come in handy. And also for OCR when you need to atlas carry/buddy carry/bucket carry etc. Pull up bars to improve grip strength and Upper body strength for monkey bars, cargo nets etc.

Though I really need to get to practicing those dips or I'll never be able to pull my way up walls.

Though I am curious if a rock climbing gym for bouldering would be more effective in training for OCR then a traditional gym... Hrmmm.

I was showing off this afternoon in the office. A colleague had a problem opening a tumbler that was screwed on too tightly. So I just grabbed the tumbler lid and gave it a good sharp twist and it opened fine. Grip strength ftw =)

Scarab Sages

Mostly casual cycling to/from the train station.

While I like swimming, the chlorine water always makes my eyes and nose red and swollen/runny.
So I mostly swim in summer when I can swim in the sea.

I’ve been very muscularly tight lately, so I’m trying a new Russian stretching program. It involves stances like Flying Mortar & Pestle or Chicken-Legged Hut. You know...

Baba Yoga.

I even knew exactly where it was going...and it didn't matter...it's still funny. Begrudgingly.

Eh I'm a bit of a jack of all trades at everything, but I only have the barest of teaching at it. I just do it for exercise now a days. Same way with boxing and a bit better with fencing. Yeah I think that is the word my Yoga instructor used "Vinyasa"

So Sabaton Concert was awesome as was the whole trip. Favorite band and their live show was amazing. Really worked up the fans. Hammerfall opened for them. We went and did a medieval times thing which was basically dinner and a show. Jousting horse tricks and some close combat oh and a falconer. Pretty good. They did do that stage fighting where you aim for the weapons and a few times I could catch the obviously scripted move because of the pauses, but for the most part pretty good.

Only complaint was the hotel room which apparently they were renovating the hotel and didn't advertise that very well. So no gym a few other things her and there.

Awesome trip overall.

I mostly run, lift weights and occasionally climb. Yoga for me is generally for run recovery. Don't really have time for martial art classes.

I mostly just rehearse what I already know. having Time is definitely the hard part.

When I see the jousting bit I keep remembering I never took the time to learn how to break fall. Else the jousting thing might be fun too. Falconer...eh sorry birds and cats don't get along.

No. When you fall you need to roll backwards and slap the floor with your palms to dissipate the kinetic energy. This is from my friend who does ju-jitsu.

There's a forward break fall as well but that one is harder to execute and less practical according to her.

If you land on your paws, the impact from being thrown could actually break them. Because no one is ever thrown off non violently for jousting.

I see why you would not be for jousting. Goes against all your natural reflexes.

Also a good reason.

I have minimal experience with horses. (jack of all trades yo.) I have ridden them before and know some basics but that is it.
