Actually, thinking about this; this is pretty dang good. April is still months in advance, and the information we get is everything that comes up in actual play. Plus… the playtest was really dry and Doomsday Dawn was focused more on data, so it'll be nice to see content that's just about fun.
The reason the announcement is so early on this is because they want to give introductions for characters (and players) in advance.
Plus, with an iconic backstory blog out, it looks like we might be slowly starting up preview season anyway.

Good point. I can't really think of any reason why that would be published now. Guessing that it's a soft-launch of PF2 talk seems reasonable. Especially in view of the OO announcement and character previews that will be starting this week. So we're finally seeing some movement to talk about PF2, though not about rules stuff just yet.
