First time I got to watch the whole thing live and it was an excellent show. Thanks to the Paizo team for going the extra mile!

Serums
"Serums are vials of magic liquid that you can imbibe as a standard action or carefully trickle down the throat of a helpless or unconscious creature as a full action."

Darts
While most combatants rely on darts to deliver toxins to enemies, particularly desperate or overworked field medics sometimes employ darts to conveniently deliver antitoxins, healing serums, and other beneficial drugs across a crowded battlefield.

Without this option, the biohacker loses some of his thunder.

Can the biohacker inject himself as an attack using an injection weapon and attack someone else with the same or other weapon as part of a full attack?

"An injection can be injected into a willing or unconscious
creature (or yourself) as a standard action, as long as the target is
within your reach. An injection can also be loaded into a weapon with
the injection weapon special property as a move action, and you can
deliver the injection with a normal attack with that weapon. When
you attack an ally with an injection loaded into a weapon that has the
injection weapon special property, that ally is considered flat-footed
against your attack.
"

Assuming the weapon already was loaded with his injections, or that he has two injection weapons readied.

Biohacker Questions

1. Is there a mechanical/balance reason why the Biohacker did not get a class based insight bonus mechanic to any skills? I understand why you might not have wanted to do it for Life/Physical science specifically (because of the reduced skill need for creature id), but I'm not seeing anything the class is getting that warrants them being stuck like soldiers with no innate bonus to any skills.

2. I'm not sure I understand the action economy of the injections class feature. It looks like you can prepare your injections 'generically' in the morning, load them all into your needler pistol (or what have you) using move actions around that time, and then shoot them and decide what they do with a normal standard action attack in combat. But if that's the case, what is the point of the Quick Load feature?

I have this same question. If i don't get back in time could you headhunt this question for me hmm? It really changes quick load into a niche thing for when you run out of ammo rather than "absolutely must get this why isn't it a class feature". It also means there's no point dual wielding needlers if you can only fire the injections as a standard action.

From the twitch

If you Stab your buddy or the bad guy in front of you with a syringe the injection does whatever you want it to do.

If you load them up into six shooters, you have to pick exactly what it does when you put it in (from the sound of it, right down to 10' of movement enhancement or which debuff you were applying)

Hey Dan, I didn't realize until watching your show late last night that you are filming the history of Starfinder episode today. Woops. I hope that I can get some questions in before you guys film.

Hmm's Burning Questions

1) How long had you guys been wanting to create an SF game before you finally tipped over the edge? What made you all decide to take the leap and launch the Science Fiction version of Pathfinder? What made you decide to make it its own game with its own rules rather than just a bunch of setting books and player companion books?

2) Distant Worlds was an important pre-setting for Starfinder, naming all the planets in the Pact Worlds system (though it was called the 'Golarian' system then) and giving them cultures and inhabitants. But you've actively shifted the post-Gap narrative all over the system. Some worlds like Castrovel came out very familiar. Others like Apostae have political landscapes that are unrecognizable from their origins. What made you decide which worlds needed radical makeovers?

3) Your influences and inspirations were so important that you devoted an entire section to them in the CRB. Can you name 3 influences that were seminal to something you specifically designed? What did they spark in you?

4) Gnomes are everywhere in your setting, despite not being a core race. Are they the secret masters of the universe?

Okay, I admit it. I'm mainly asking this to see what insane theory Owen makes up on the spot.

5) Can you wish your guests happy holidays from all of us fans at some point during the show? Starfinder has been a great gift in our lives, and I've enjoyed meeting so many 'Starfinder babies' -- people who'd never played PFS and came to SFS specifically because it was a science fiction exploration game in a big wide universe. We want to thank you for the wonderful gift you've given us in a game that brings so many of us together.

I didn't get to watch this weeks show 'live' but I did catch it late last night.

Thank you Dan for asking my questions from earlier in the thread, and thank you to Owen and Jason for answering them. The second one really cleared some stuff up that was confusing me and the first answer made total sense.

Now I wish I had read/played/played with the Witchwarper so I had decent questions for next week's show...


Here’s another few questions.

Will Owen do some more live games where he is the GM? I’ve only found a few on YouTube with him as GM of a starfinder game and it’s nice to see how a design lead runs a game.

Any chance of getting Starfinder Fan club T-shirt’s?

Was there any thought on the biohacker being able to actually use biochemistry to create life? Something where he creates/summons a being and has a pet/summon like a mechanic/ranger?


As I said above, I haven't played a witchwarper yet. I'm playing with one in a playtest run of 1-25, but I haven't seen much of what they can do in action. So take these questions with a hefty grain of salt. However, I have seen similar points made by people that have actually played them, so it would be nice to get an answer regarding it.

Witchwarper Questions.

1. Looking at the class features and what they can actually do, it appears that, like many old-school spellcasters, the witchwarper is "back-loaded". Meaning, it appears to be intentionally 'weak' at low-levels and far stronger at high levels. Was this design choice intentional, and if so what is the justification for it?

2. What was the thought process behind the skill choices vis-a-vis Starship combat? It seems odd that in a universe where starship travel is common and a game where it makes up ~1/6th of a character's potential career that they'd be so limited to participating in it. They're basically stuck as a Captain, and not even a fantastically good one like an Envoy might be.

Vanguardish Questions

Not directly related to the vanguard but since they seem to be the combat maneuver class...

Does being moved by a combat maneuver provoke? Reposition and bullrush seem to let you move an opponent and then whack them when you do.

If you are bored some more Biohacker questions popped up

Can you use the conserving fusion on your injections so you don't burn them when you miss?

Can you use the a +2 enhancement bonus to all skill checks" restorative in spaceship combat? The core rules say that you can't use class abilities in combat but the FAQ about class abilities in starship combat seems to reverse that completely.


Well, the basic one concerning Biohackers right now would be: do you fire the injection from your gun (causing no damage at all), or do you actually put the content of the injection inside a dart and then fire it (causing the weapon's regular damage + effect from the injection)?

And concerning melee injection weapons, can the Injection content be placed into them, ie, do they count as "vials" or "flat cartridges", mentioned in weapons such as the Ice Needles or the Injection Gloves?

Most people have assumed you can use Injections just like any regular poison, but strictly reading the text on the Playtest, it seems the injections aren't quite compatible with darts or the mechanisms employed by melee weapons.

Gnomes are originally residents of the First World, the prototype universe created by the gods before they made our final reality. As such, they are the ur-humanoids, the tempalte from which everything else is made, from elves (tall gnomes) to shirren (buggy gnomes) to barathu (... weird gnomes).
Thus, gnomes are distributed evenly throughout the galaxy. they are not "native" t the pact Worlds, but to ALL worlds, in greater or lesser measure.
There is no place that doesn't have a connection to gnomes.
Who, understandably, thus tend to have their fingers in a lot of pies.

If you are taking suggestions about a question I would love to know how they handle the implications of many denizens being able to cast the spell wish. I think it'd be really interesting to know if they have a mechanism in place to handle this, or a social custom making it somewhat taboo.

One piece of constructive criticism from someone who sometimes chooses to listen on headphones at work with just audio. You click the pen on the table quite a bit.

I also enjoyed the show, Dan and Chris. It was fun hearing more about the community of the Sun, which was the single most interesting location in the Pact Worlds for me. Still your show sparked ideas, and I'm now thinking about putting together a song about Asanatown. I'll share it if it comes together.

Meanwhile, tell Chris that I am looking forward to getting more in depth with the sun as the AP unfurls!

Second, SORRY! I thought I had already posted that the show on the 16th is a Playtest Wrap Up show. It's been planned from the start and in my brain, I added that a long time ago. But, I guess I didn't. Apologies. To be clear, tomorrow's show is a Playtest Wrap Up show with Owen and Rob.

The upcoming schedule is coming together but still sort of spotty.

5. What changes will you be making to the skill selection/bonuses for the playtest classes, especially in regards to Starship Combat?

6. How effective, overall, did the feedback indicate shields were? (My expectation is a lot, but data beats anecdotes.)

7. How close is the general feedback on the classes to what you were expecting going into it?

8. What other exciting things are you working on for the Character Operations Manual that you can tell us about? It's Owen and Rob, and sometimes they do teases and spoilers.

9. What have you learned from the Playtest process this time? Not about the classes, but about how to run and fast and fun Playtest?

10. Will you include a GM survey next time so that GMs don't feel they have to submit six surveys for each game they do? (I admit that I gave up after one or two surveys per game as GM. I just did not have the energy to fill out one for each character.)

Great show Dan and team. You know Dan you are making significant progress in your ability to run these shows. It is a learned skill to be able to interview people and keep the show paced and to properly place questions and I feel you are making a steady progression in your ability to do these things. Admittedly Owen seems like a guy that almost interviews himself most of the time. Awesome job!

I confess "getting me to talk" is not normally difficult. "Getting me to stay on topic" is, however, definitely a skill set!

Thanks so much! This is the first time I've ever had to run a show, direct camera, interview, and chat all at the same time.

It's been a giant learning experience for me.
Glad you can see some improvements in my work!!
