Spellgorged Zombies with Detonate?

Any reason a wizard couldn't animate a bunch of Spellgorged Zombies and load them up with Detonate spells?

This should be in the Rules section.

Anywho, the only problem I see is that a Detonate spell is a spell that 1 round after being cast, it explodes to everything around you, even harming yourself.

However, it does say in a Ring of Spell Storing: "A spellcaster can cast any spells into the ring, so long as the total spell levels do not add up to more than 5." And for a Spellgorged Zombie it says: "A spellgorged zombie can store any spells cast into its mouth as if it were a ring of spell storing. The spellgorged can store a number of spell levels equal to its Hit Dice. Each spell has a caster level equal to that of the spellcaster that placed the spell in the spellgorged zombie."

So RAW, I'd say yes you can. I'm not 100% on that though.

Kind of a waste of perfectly good spellcaster corpses. The first one to detonate will destroy all the others, unless they're in careful formation---not something zombies are known for.

Ah... they're not created with cheap/low level Animate Undead either... they're created with Create Greater Undead... so, yeah, a more valuable resource to just be blowing up.

Still would be nice to have a few and send them to strategic areas to all blow on command. But, also at that level, probably much worse things you can have them do than 10d8 damage.

If suicide-bomber zombies are your thing, the Alchemist has you covered.

Looks like the better solution to me.

Now, if only I had a way to reduce the cost...

And here, I was just taping explosive rune kick me signs to my zombies...

Brains... *zombie wanders about in tattered clothing and a new brightly dyed T-shirt that reads: "Hi! My Master spent a fortune animating Me and all I got was this *EXPLOSIVE RUNES* T-shirt!"

Bah. I don't even need a 1 HD zombie for that. 25 gp- I spend three times as much on my usual flashlight.

The real expense comes from creating the horde of other 1 hd zombies to camouflage the explosive one. You can't make them ALL explosive, or the enemy catch off far too quickly. You need to lull them into a false sense of security.

So? 1 HD skeleton, bloody bones. 50 gp.
1 Symbol of Insanity carved into the head of said skeleton. 25,000gp. skeleton is immune to the symbol as part of the casting. Set it to go off on sight. Oh, and anyone the wizard is particularly fond of.

Now just have it run a circuit around town. Whenever someone see the symbol, everyone within 60' for 10 minutes gets to save vs Insanity (permanent confusion). Look its symbol of death with no HP limit.

Well, sure this is horribly expensive but still...

I don't know... I aim for the low ranked mad man market. If you are someone that will indiscriminately murder people using the living dead and horrific tricks, I feel you will do that a whole lot earlier than you can cast spell level 8 spells.

Heck, by the time that you are a wizard that powerful, most people will go out of their way to appease you.

So I am working with the do it yourself magical mass murderer. The ones just starting out- fresh out of being run out of wizard college while being called "mad" (insert "I'll show them mad!" line here).

I thank you for the suggestion on reusable delivery equipment.
