BACKGROUND: Imperial Academy Admissions Interview 5293-7635-8814-G

"Oh, just start talking? Okay. Name's Glitch. That is, Jenni Everson, but everyone calls me Glitch. So, I'm from Gandr. Never heard of it? I'm not surprised. We aren't exactly on the regular trade route. You know that little out-of-the-way place that lies just one mis-jump coreward of nowhere? Yeah, That's Gandr. Not even a proper world, just a collection of rocks floating in vacuum.

"Dad was a belter. Me and Mom? We were just along for the ride. We were constantly on the jump, going wherever the money was. We finally settled in on Gandr and were making a decent living... until the ore ran dry. Now, it's little more than a forgotten boom system. Dad, always one to believe that his next big strike was right around the corner, made a few unwise investments and the next thing you know, we're living hand-to-mouth.

"So when your recruiter broke down in system and had to put into port for emergency repairs, he fished around a little, and I bit. He made it sound so attractive. Of course, it's not like I needed much of a push. I was screaming for a way off-world. I couldn't sign the datapad fast enough.

"My nickname? It's a joke among my friends. I'm pretty handy with mechanics and electronics. That's my dream job; working onboard an Imperial Cruiser as an engineer. Yeah, I know that everybody wants to be a pilot, but someone has to keep 'em flying, right?"

I love the flavor of all the events. Given that and her new title, she will actually take her next term in Commando/Spec Ops.

Not that I want to currently, but if Tulip decided to leave the mercenary company, what kind of professions would be available to her at that point?

And also do you have a limit on # of terms? Like would 2-3 more be ok? I'm just really enjoying this process. :D

On other careers, anything would be open at that point as long as it's not restricted to a specific race or political party. For example, she wouldn't be able to enter High Guard because that is Imperial Citizens only. She couldn't enter Special Arm because that's Darrian only.

But she could enter the Navy, or Army or Rogue or Merchant or any other career she can make the entry check for. If you want to boost her education, you could go into Scholar and go for personal development checks hoping to hit some EDU bonuses. But it'd be a struggle. Scientist, oddly enough, would be the easiest for her, the entry is 6+ Int check, survival is EDU 4+ (lowest EDU survival on the table) and advancement is Int 8+. If you wanted some space skills, Scout Survey is survival END 6+ and promotion Int 8+.

Dex Careers : Rogue

Int Careers : Agent, Entertainer, Merchant, Navy, Scholar, Scout, Law Enforcement, Spy, Corporate Agent, Bounty Hunter, Burgler, Pirate, Illicit Broker, Free Trader (Trade Crew), Junk Dealer, Merchant Marine (Fleet Hand)

End Careers : Army, Marines, Organized Crime

Non-Stat Careers : Wanderer

Do I get my retirement fund from the navy if I work as a scholar?

Yes, if you had 5 terms in any one career, you get your retirement pay per year. Even if you went on to a new career after.

Related careers count for the total. For example, Mercenary careers are all working in the same career in different capacities (basically working for the same Merc Group), and High Guard is working for the Imperial Navy regardless of switching ships/missions/internal careers.

This small cute animal is a genetically engineered life form. It comes in multiple forms to appeal to various audiences. All such pets are omnivorous, and have coded genetic markers that interact with the environment to alert their owners to dangers. This generally results in skin or fur or scale color changes, warning sounds, or other markers that are detailed by the pet's creators. Additionally, all such pets are synched to a single species bio-requirements, and will reject food that is poisonous to that species.

I'm currently looking at a Robot, originally designed as a bodyguard/protection unit on a rough planet, and in the possession of someone aboard the ISS Verdant Dawn prior to the crash after having changed hands several times. Loyal, in so much that it's been used to taking orders from everyone else and knows very well that the best that they can hope for is an owner that will ensure they get the upkeep required for continued operation.

NAME : [TBD]
RACE : Robot
BIRTHWORLD : (Current thought - An over-populated desert planet used as a production centre. High Population Industrial Desert?)
PROPOSED CHARACTER TYPE : Resigned robotic bodyguard, potentially unowned after the crash.
ALLEGIANCE : To the owner, and to their specified allies. Property doesn't rebel if it wants to remain intact.

I took a stab at designing the basic frame below. I don't have all the information on the process, but hopefully not much needs correcting.
** spoiler omitted **Rest well. The sheer amount of activity is crazy, and you did well...

Going to do the robot stuff in batches, so I don't have to post same stuff multiple times. So I'll post the next bit of Robot stuff shortly.

Hereis the post where it happened. My paper work is off since this event, thanks.

Also, Is there a title for Special Arm Rank 2 and Wander (Drifter, Darrian) Rank 1.

You get the +2 DEX back immediately, you were taken care of medically at the time. The 5K comes out of your muster out funds. If you dont' get 5K, you start the game in debt to the hospital with a 6'5" Mob Enforcer named Peaches after you to pay your debt back to the mob owned hospital.

Hey Trawets, glad to see the baby finally stopped demanding attention long enough for you to get some sleep so you could post. :)

One thing before we begin, you've got Solomani but also Imperial Citizen. Those are, combined with a SOC 10, highly unusual, as it would mean a Solomani immigrated to the Imperium, and then became a noble in the Imperium somehow.

Do you want to be a Solomani noble who's travelling in the Imperium instead? Or do you want to have an unusual background that somehow a Solomani became a Knight in the Imperium?

I think I'm caught back up on everyone now. Yes?

I don't like peaches.

lso, Is there a title (rank name) for Special Arm Rank 2 and Wander (Drifter, Darrian) Rank 1?

Special Arm : Captain
Wanderer : We don't need no stinking titles...

Right, story time kids. Gather round and hush ya yaps while I tell the tale

M3Sks rolls off the factory floor a heavy harvester designed for high risk salvage and mining operations. High end, well built imperial stuff this. Sold to some operation out in the Ley, little Sydite outfit jumping Hiver claims near the Delphi rift. Bunch of fringer cheats... aye, are you telling the story or am I? That's what I thought.

So it is on line harvesting salvage off an old hab system, one of many failed starts to that jump bridge they been trying to get off the ground. Anywho, hard break happens, ship gets hit by a bit of degree and the hab busts like an egg. Operations owner has his son on board, showing him the family business and all, well kid ends up in the vacuum. Not where you want to be, but then this bot seems to get a wild bit up its transistors and rolls full at the kid. Launches clear out in to space, catches the kid in mid decompress, slams back in to the hab and grabs a tract of wall to seal the rupture. Think that kid grew up to be some kinda chief or something... doesn't matter cause it looked freaking cool.

After that the bot gets sold, no clue why, probably got out the trade after your kid nearly dies I guess, disappears for a bit but who cares. What's important is it shows back up on some backwater after killing an assassin bent on offing some knight. No kidding, just randomly shows up. Well it starts spouting off about roborights and saving the knight for his support of robot right... I don't know. That polity has some odd laws.

Anyhow, he becomes a symbol, reason for hope among the robomancipation crowd... which is why we got to decommission it. Our new employer can't be giving rights to two thirds of the labor force. They might expect pay or something.

Term History:
Term 1: Unable to gain entry in the Imperial Navy, Omaltdoy'tsart instead submits himself to a draft lottery from several allied navies, and joins the Navy of The Commonality of Kedzudh, a Human/Vargr buffer state coreward of the Spinward Marches.
He enrolls in the Flight assignment, and after initial training is posted to Courier duty as a backup pilot for a Scout Class vessel relaying dispatches and information back to Imperial forces as part of cooperation agreements.
He is promoted to Able Spacehand, and then Commissioned to Ensign.

Term 2: Continuing as a courier, Ensign Yuftro moves from backup to primary pilot. He is approached to make credits on the side by carrying contraband, but refuses, duly reporting the incident and earning a promotion to Sublieutenant.

Term 3: Malt realizes he's not likely to be leaving his current service and begins thinking about life after the Navy. He joins a gambling circle, looking to build up his reserves for later on, but loses badly. Still, he learns to be better at the process, which will aid him later in life.

He doesn't ignore his primary career, however, and takes a stint as a fighter pilot, his low mass giving just a bit of an acceleration advantage. He also begins to study more specialized armors, thinking that he may need exoskeletal support as he ages.

Continuing his rapid rise through the ranks, he is promoted to full Lieutenant.

Term 4: Concentrating on once again on his career, Lieutenant Yuftro begins to cross-train in Engineering while continuing to advance his Flight skills. When his vessel is involved in repulsing a Vargr raid, Omaltdoy'tsart's small size makes him instrumental in getting into the guts of the drives for quick damage control.

This results in his promotion to Commander and a transfer to Bridge crew on the sole Capital ship in the area, where he begins studies of Naval Tactics, and dreams perhaps of commanding his own vessel

Term 5: Promoted to Captain, Omaltdoy'tsart leads a punitive raid against the home base of the Vargr raiders.

However, he begins to feel the effects of age creeping up on him, and having achieved his goal of command, Omaltdoy'tsart realizes it is time to once again become a wanderer, and see all that he can see before him time is over. Reluctantly, Captain Yuftro retires, looking back on a good career.

Background:
Born and raised on the Uskurv, a travelling asteroid shipyard inhabited by the Uskuraday oytrip, Omaltdoy'tsart, who had already begun to show signs of unseemly individuality, entered the Casting ceremony as usual in his 12th year. The Coyns were cast, and to no one's surprise Omaltdoy'tsart was cast as a Sport, maturing over the next year into the caste.
As is traditional for Sports among the Uskuraday, Omaltdoy'tsart left the oytrip just before him 18th year to roam among humaniti, planning to travel far and wide and reconnect with as many Droyne communities as possible. He attempted to join the Imperial Navy, but failed, and was instead recruited by the navy of the Commonality of Kedzudh, an Imperial client state.
He started in the navy as a courier, piloting a communications vessel back and forth to the Imperium, but rose through the ranks quickly, and was transferred into a local unit, first as a fighter pilot, and then as helmsman of the Aelghaez, the Commonality's sole capital ship after he played a significant role in repulsing an attack by Vargr Corsairs. Omaltdoy'tsart was placed on the fast track for command, and he was promoted to Captain and given command of his own vessel, the Thanoen, an assault cruiser.
Omaltdoy'tsart served with distinction as a Captain, leading a punitive raid against those same Corsairs, but it is at this point he realized he'd fallen into the trap of success. He had abandoned his original mission to travel.
With a bright career and the possibility of the Admiralty ahead of him, Captain Yuftro suddenly resigned.
Captain Yuftro is now gone, the only real reminders of his career his service pistol and blade. Now Malt travels across the Imperium, often working passage from place to place as a pilot or engineer. While quite capable of commanding a vessel, particularly in combat, he has not sought out that sort of position, as it would tie him down to a single vessel, and most vessels have established routes.

Personality:
Malt has no great ambitions at this point except to travel. He is for the most part quiet and unassuming, looking to blend into the group while providing any of applicable expertise.

Connections
TBD. Easiest connections would involve anyone who had travelled in the Vargr extents or served in the Imperial Navy.

Per this info and your note to someone else, I believe I will finish my 5 terms in the Merc Army to get retirement pay, then probably muster out to a civilian gig for one term. You are forced to emergency pilot the evacuation transport when the real pilot is incapacitated.

Term 4 : Mercenary (Striker, Rifleman)

One of your assignments requires special training for its success, which the employer is willing to pay for.

Side note: how do ship shares work?

Ship shares will not come into play for this game, which is why I said people should select other items or reroll if ship shares was the only option.

Other: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Armour
Other: 1d6 ⇒ 1 Contact

Note : I would suggest Gel Suit for your armour

Gel Suit (TL10): Primarily used for recreation such as vehicle racing or contact sports, the gel suit is a skin tight body glove, similar to a wetsuit. It comprises of reactive gel sandwiched between two layers of ballistic cloth. Violent impacts cause the gel to solidify, distributing the force of the blow across a wider surface area. Although the suit permits full mobility, it momentarily hardens when blocking damage, reducing the wearer’s Initiative by one for each separate attack it blocks in a round. Cost includes separate gloves and hood.

Gel Suit (TL10) Protection (6) None Skill Required Cost 30,000 3 kg

Nobility from the core book, or Dilettante (Soc career) or Connoisseur (Edu career) or Adventurer (End career) for nobility?

Adventurer is basically an Allan Quartermain type nobility career, explorer, hunter, archaeologist are the three specialties.

Connoisseur is basically a Neal Caffrey/Mozzie type character. Critic, Artisan, and Collector.

Dilettante is basically a Bruce Wayne type character career (not batman, just his public persona). Wastrel, Socialite, Philanthropist.

Note, you have a -1 per previous career (-3 I think?) at this point to enter a new career. So it'll be hard, Nobility is automatic at your soc level. Dilettante is Soc 7+, Connoisseur is Edu 7+, Adventurer is End 6+.

Why The gel suit?
EDIT: Definitely going with Dilettante (Socialite) <- Added

That is awesome. I think it gives me a 14 Armor (24 vs. Lasers) (those pistols can't damage me at a max of 21)

EDIT EDIT: I can has 1 skin tight Armor and 1 normal Armor + any Armor that specifically calls out it stacks, correct?

Hey Trawets, glad to see the baby finally stopped demanding attention long enough for you to get some sleep so you could post. :)

One thing before we begin, you've got Solomani but also Imperial Citizen. Those are, combined with a SOC 10, highly unusual, as it would mean a Solomani immigrated to the Imperium, and then became a noble in the Imperium somehow.

Do you want to be a Solomani noble who's travelling in the Imperium instead? Or do you want to have an unusual background that somehow a Solomani became a Knight in the Imperium?

Ok, this show my lack of world knowledge. I thought Solomani were those from Earth/Sol and therefore were the Imperium. So I don't know where I went wrong. I'll need some more information to figure out where I went wrong and what I want to do. My idea is going to be a scholar with PhDs in Botany, Zoology, Etymology and Medicine. Sort of an 19th Century British gentleman explorer, kinda with an African exploration vibe. I'm going to change my Dex and Int. Oldest son in the noble family but was sickly his whole life so devoted himself to his studies and needs robotic help for the physical things. The family was more than happy to let his strong good looking younger brother be the face of the family. Maybe they own or are large investors in the company that has rights on the planet and the brother was the leader of the expedition and killed in the crash. We'll need to work out details.

This was a bit quick as I'm off to work right now.

The world's fastest crash course in Traveller History off the top of my head...(which may have changed a bit in the most recent version of Traveller)

- A (very) long time ago an ancient race visited earth, took humans (and dogs) and spread them around to various points in the galaxy.
-Eventually on branch of these humans, the Vilani, created a start spanning empire, The First Imperium, which was decaying by the time...
-Humans from Earth discovered Jump Drive, met and warred with the First Imperium, and essentially conquered it, creating the Second Imperium.
-The imperial decay was too far gone, however, and the Second Imperium fell, causing a long night where worlds were separated again.
-Eventually, the Third Imperium rose up, still mostly run/populated by Vilani, but with more hybrid vigor than the First Imperium.
-Earthlings are now referred to as Solomani, and while technically conquered (and they're pissed about it), their polity is known as the Solomani Autonomous Region.

So Solomani can refer to 'racially descended from Terran Humans', but is more usually 'a citizen of the Solomani Autonomous Region/Solomani Sphere'.

Need two Contact rolls, and two Benefit rolls ( both other ) please :)

Also...age rolls

[dice=5th term]2d6-2 All good!

Two things,

1) You forgot the -1DM to qualify for Agent for having a previous career. But you still got in.

2) Aging check for 5th term is -5, not -2, same result, but others might be reading and not realize it was a typo.

Gah! Well at least my mistakes didn't change anything.

NAME: Jenni "Glitch" Everson
RACE: Imperial Human
HOMEWORLD: Gandr/Lunion (Spinward Marches 2425)

Yes, she would like to go into High Guard Engineering. If she fails to qualify, hmmm. She would probably become a drifter rather than submit to the possibility of being drafted into a service she didn't want to enter.

I have to switch my thinking to classic Traveller (I'm used to playing Mongoose's edition).

All humans originate from Sol III (Earth).

Zhodani are Humans who were kidnapped off Earth by the Ancients and transplanted to other planets, they've evolved since then.

Darrian's are also Humans who were kidnapped off Earth by the Ancients and transplanted to other planets, they've evolved (and were experimented on).

Imperials are descendants of Earth Humans who went to the stars several thousand years ago. There have been 3 Empires, the current is the Third Imperium. Not all humans became part of the Third Imperium. Solomani Confederation was established (via war) about 400 years ago.

We're using Mongoose traveller, my original post was incorrect.

Then I can make all the rolls, if it is easier on you. I have the books for both 1st and 2nd (Cephus) editions.

I've also added computer software Agent 1 (remote operations) to automate the personal drone, like a virtual cameraman/director for 2000

Should I go ahead and use the rules I have?

Looks like you have the original GDW stuff. Classic, but significant differences from the Mongoose Traveller rules.

There is a free Introduction to Traveller rulebook available on RPGNow.. It only has a few careers, but covers the basic mechanics.

Ohhhh!

We're doing Mongoose? That explains it. I thought we were doing classic traveller.

Ok...here is most of it done, just need to add the background, personality and some more equipment. Does it look ok?

Only thing I see I'd like a bit more on is the term history (events added in, success/fail, etc)

As of Mongoose, a few hundred years ago the SAR became the Solomani Confederation as it broke away from the Empirium again, and is now as powerful technology wise as the Imperium, smaller, but too nasty to go up against if you don't have to.

Just hit the higlights, I'll get more done later tonight.
